Homemade tower from a tree gets the mill up higher than last year.Originally, it was 8 feet longer, but we could not lift it into the hole.Had to cut it down.I would like to thank my cousin Mark and his friend Todd for helping me.It would have never been done without them.I was fortunate they were camping nearby. Thanks a million guys!!
Well,I was leaving late Saturday and hiked to civilaization after wiring the beacon radio and wind turbine battery ...etc and heading to a dry place to stay for the night.Looks like everything is working and the wind cooperated to put a smile on my face.As you may have read of last years experiences, hoping by raising the turbine will be be much more efficient for charging the marine battery. As always, time will tell.I personally have doubts it will perform any better. The blades are out of balance,so it does not turn in low winds as it could balanced .There is a slight vibration at certain RPM`s.Tomorrow we will stop back and pack up to go home. The rain made for a short camping trip. This will be the last wind turbine project for a long time.Next...SOLAR PANELS ! Or an AC outlet :))

This is some people firing a high power rifle near my campsite while I was working on this project Saturday.Listen carefully to the 13th +/- shot starting from the beginning of the video. Tell me you do not hear a bullet passing nearby?I did ! I may have to let these guys know people camp down range from them.
Just a part of nature I thought I would share.
A look at the beacon in operation.A modified CB ,freakin` beacon controller and the wind generator dump load controller. You can hear the mill turning.Slight vibration was later resolved by using epoxy and a nickel to balance one of the blades. That was not any fun climbing up there.
This is a video of the mill with an audio clip of the beacon signal heard on a web radio located in S.Dakota

IT DOES NOT CHARGE A 12 VOLT BATTERY !!!!! Do not waste your time with this idea :))
The battery had been sitting there for 2 weeks without ANY power draw.9 VOLTS.Just the Wind turbine and the battery.Battery has not charged at all and it IS wired correctly and the battery is in perfect health. This treadmill motor has not enough for the job.If it did, this idea would have been all over the internet.Raising it was the last thing that was done and the next time it comes down will be when nature takes it down.It may charge a penlight or something, but nothing like the designers said it would.I would guess it would have to be on Mt.Everest to charge a marine battery.I need to just get solar panels and see if that does anything without taking out a bank loan.Wind power is a waste of time, money and work.Too much maintainance and cost to have a real use for windpower. What will it take to keep something this simple operating?Something I can spend on a power line pole probably.Anyhow, here are my results with the Chispito Wind Gen.If by chance a miracle occurs before I shoot at it with my gun,it will be posted here :))

FYI - It has been a very long time since working on the wind turbine. My last trip was in August 09 and a section of the tail was snapped off.The battery was recharged and was used to operate my nephews new HTX-100 radio. The battery was connected to the mill before we left the camp and has been since.Last reading on the battery was just under 12V.Should be interesting to see what is going on there nowadays.I will add new photos and information when I get back down there.
Here is an update on the Wind turbine.Actually, something that looks like a wind turbine :)
The battery had 11 volts a few months ago and now has 10 volts. Piece of crap !!!

Nothing new but the tail section missing. Not enough wind ? Yeah right !!!!

Battery now has 9 Volts. The LED on the dump load probably drains the current faster than the mill can put back in? :)
