N2NXZ 10 Meter Propagation Beacon

Amateur Radio/Wind turbine

My other hobbies are NOAA Satellite, and HF FAX reception

Home made  QHA

It seems all my projects require PVC tubing.Ironically,I am not a plumber by any means. :)

It is easy to receive satellite images from NOAA polar orbiting satellites.

Here is the antenna I built and simply use a police scanner that receives - 137.1, 137.5 and 137.62 mhz. (see photo above)

HF FAX is also very simple to receive using these programs. But I prefer MULTIPSK once again. The first 2 programs are best for APT

The most important program is tracking the satellites. I used SATSCAPE,but now I prefer ORBITRON.That is because the ISS is parked over africa for some reason on satscape.

Here are 2 photos I have received on APT FM and HF FAX. Why does the map overlay show my location in Buffalo?Because I was too lazy to type my actual coordinance in the program. It was easier to use the Buffalo preset :))

The above image was received sitting in a lawn chair in my mothers yard. The antenna was leaning against another lawn chair with a hand held scanner(realistic pro-34) and 166 mhz laptop using WXSAT software. I later ran the wav file into WxToImg software. That is hurricane katrina.

This HF FAX image of a GOES sat was received on a BC-348-Q Signal corps receiver using MULTIPSK software.I believe the signal was sent from Nova Scotia on 4.274 mhz LSB.Antenna is my homebrew 80 meter dipole with one end on a pine tree and the other at the opposite end of my apartment(135 ft).It goes about 4 feet over the property. My neighbor was kind enough to allow me to use his pine tree :)Yes,it was sticky.

HF FAX Chart

This was heard on 3.850 mhz.2009-02-26 04h49m55s Too bad I did not take time using the slant correction.Very good signal from Europe. One of the best seen in a long time from that region. You can see Italy if you have the eyes for it.

Identify these signals

This will take you to my other page where you can find links which will help identify these types of signals.

Too late for GOES reception?

Photobucket

I remember buying QST,73 and Monitoring times magazines in the late 1980`s.Computers were expensive and the advertisments in those mags were RECEIVE WEFAX SIGNALS!Never would have guessed that there would be piles of computer junk in my house with enough to make 4 or 5 more adding to the already 6 working now? Finally to achieve HF FAX and APT was a good end to that chapter of dreams.

This downconverter was going to be used for another project that never happened. It is sitting here, but turns out from new information,GOES reception is not that simple anymore. If you have been through this website further, you would see my Remote beacon site has a satellite dish.Maybe it can be used for something in the future.Looks too cool to throw away. Here was the plan anyhow and a link to the modifications to this downconverter.I found it very hard to see and understand.Any clues are welcome.>
