Precious Birth Doula Services

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13

What is a Doula

A doula is an experienced woman who offers physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother and partner continuously during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. A doula is also trained and is proficient in massage, comfort measures, movement and positioning, relaxation and breathing techniques.  A doula or labor supporter means that I am with you during your entire labor, to calm, comfort, nurture and reassure you.

The purpose of a doula is; she helps a woman find the confidence in herself and her body to do what is natural, and give birth to her baby the way she wants to. A doula also helps a womans partner understand the birth process, and what the laboring woman is going through.

Doulas do not perform clinical tasks, such as vaginal exams or fetal heart rate monitoring.  Doulas do not diagnose medical conditions, offer second opinions, or give medical advice.  The doula's goal is to help the woman have a safe and satisfying childbirth, as defined by each individual woman.

What does a doula do?

  • Assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and caring out their plan for their birth.
  • Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor.
  • Stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the entire labor.
  • Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner, and clinical care providers.
