How it all started...
In 2000, I had been watching "Breed All About It" on Animal Planet, when I discovered the beautiful butterfly dog called, the Papillon. I had thought they were beautiful dogs, and had never seen one before! About a week later, my uncle gave me some Dog Fancy magazines, and of course one of them had a papillon on the cover. At that time my grandma was looking for a lap dog, and I was training my jack russell terrier, Gracie for agility. I did a lot of studying on papillons, and told my grandma about them...she was hooked. Later that summer she rescued a papillon puppy, she named, "Casey". After spending a lot of time with him and also training him for obedience and agility, I got more and more into the breed. I did a lot of researching online, and found two great friends, Jane Raemy (Blicci papillons and phalenes-Denmark), and Inger Yaglikcilar (Haremet's papillons and phalenes-Sweden). After watching the papillon on Breed All About It, again, I looked up the breeder for "Moki" the phalene (drop eared papillon), and got intouch with her owner, Marion, Akai papillons and phalenes. Marion then introduced me to a breeder in Cincinnati, who I am forever thankful to have as a friend and a mentor, Carol Morris (Wingazen Papillons). Marion was so helpful to me, and I thank her very much. After meeting Carol at a show in October of 2001, I then went to every dog show possible for the next two years. In January of 2003, Basil became my first show dog. Carol told me that she had a puppy for me to show, a sable and white male with beautiful movement and a "regal look". I fell in love with him, and I still am. Unsure of what to name him, I kept the "regal look" in mind and saw the name "Basil" in a baby name book. It ment "kingly and magnificent". Carol then gave him his registered name, Wingazen A Dare For Jessarae. I got my kennel name from my first name, Jessica, and my middle name, Rae. "Jessarae" is a nickname my mom called me when I was little. As you can see, it stuck.
That summer after I graduated high school, I kept intouch with Inger (Haremet's), and imported Rhiannon from her in Sweden. Since I began researching the papillon breed, I had always loved Inger's dogs. I especially loved, Swedish champion, Haremet's Cicko The Clown. Little did I know then, I would eventually be the owner of his grand-daughter, Haremet's Imperial Blue. Rhiannon got her name from the Fleetwood Mac song, "Rhiannon", which is my favorite song, and has been since I was very young. Rhiannon has become a wonderful show dog, agility dog, and mother. She has also been my shadow and my love. I thank Inger so much for her. Rhiannon is the mother of my first litter and the mother of my first homebred champion, DJ. DJ has won the hearts of many people both as a show dog and agility dog...and not to mention his unique personallity!
Durring the time of spectating at dog shows, I met my friends and mentors, Paula and Kevin Ray (Marquis papillons). I am so grateful to them for all they have done for me and taught me! We live very close to each other and travel to dog shows a lot together. In the summer of 2008, I became the proud co-owner of, "Fable", Marquis Wind Of The Arabian Night. She is a beautiful girl!
Thank you all for your support and help with my life in the dog world! You know who you are! :o)
My dogs today...
My currently compete in AKC events, conformation and agility. My dogs are titled in both venues.
Jessarae is a small show kennel in Ohio, and I do not breed very often. I usually breed one to two litters every other year, and I only breed when I am ready for something new to show and take on the responsibility of a new litter. My dogs are bred to the AKC breed standard and occasionally I may have puppies available for pet or performance (agility, obedience, rally) homes. All puppies that I do not plan on keeping to show are placed in approved homes with a spay or neuter contract. I do not sell my show dogs. Anything that is show quality and is placed in a show home, is co-owned with me and placed with a contract. If you would like to inquire about a puppy from me or have questions about the breed, please feel free to e-mail me, I would be glad to answer your questions. If you are inquiring about a puppy please answer these questions:
~Have you ever owned a papillon or a toy breed dog?
~Do you currently have any other pets?
~Do you have any children? If so what are their ages?
~Do you have a fenced in yard?
~Are planning on training for AKC events?
~Why do you think the papillon is the right breed for you?
