JGS: An update

We would like to apologise to all those that look at this site for the lack of updates in recent months.

Most people are aware of the personal issues that Debbie and the charity have faced with the illness and subsequent death of Jake hitting particularly hard. However JGS WILL be continuing and looking to find permanent loving homes for greyhounds in Jersey.

We are always looking for hard working and loyal volunteers to help out so please get in touch if you would like to assist.

A tribute to Jake

Jake was the greyhound that inspired and taught JGS founder what great pets greyhounds make. Sadly on 12 August 2009 Jake passed away.

Connor who has been a dedicated and loyal helper to JGS has penned this tribute.

A tribute to Jake

It is with great sadness that I am reporting the death of Jake on Wednesday the 12th of August just before 9pm.

Jake was a lovely good natured dog, who inspired a lot of people to get greyhounds as pets but was present at every single Jersey Greyhound Supporters meet and greet. Jake was owned by Debbie Paisnel the founder of JGS.

Jake had been suffering an illness for a long time and it was thought that he was in a stable yet poorly condition, so it came as a little bit of a shock when he had to be rushed to the vets on Wednesday the 12th with several tumors in his body.

He died doing what he loved and that was being driven around in the car. We all send our condolences to Debbie at this hardest of times for her. Debbie would like to thank all the people who helped look after Jake in his final few hours, we will miss you old boy...

Important Information

We now have dogs available from a UK Kennel which is operated by a well established Greyhound Rehoming group.

We pride ourselves on having first hand knowledge of the dogs available to us.

All dogs are known on a personal level and assessed for temperament, so we are then able to give to prospective owners, an honest and truthful view of the dog and its needs.

The dogs listed on our 'Dogs Needing Homes' page are available to come to Jersey or any of the other Channel Islands for rehoming.

All greyhounds are spayed or castrated, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and frontlined.

Some of our greyhounds may be considered by ourselves to be cat trainable, so do please ask.

All the 32 dogs we have rehomed on the islands have fantastic temperaments and suit the owners' family situation. We have 6 dogs in homes with cats, and others living happily with other breeds of dog.

About us

Jersey Greyhound Supporters is a charity set up to promote the qualities of retired racing Greyhounds and to help find them good homes as pets.

I have an 11 year old Black Greyhound called Jake. His racing name was Code Picture and he was an excellent racing dog in his time. He was an Open racer (top races) and hit the big time until he fell and injured himself in a race. Since then, I have had a great passion for Greyhounds. They are loving, loyal and very affectionate dogs.

Jersey Greyhound Supporters started up in January 2006 and our aim is to rehome Greyhounds into loving permanent homes. Since we began we have rehomed 30 greyhounds into homes on the islands.

In the group, we also have our loyal owners and their dogs, Jake, Louis, Gilbert, Tilly, Amy and Cindy.

We are pleased to announce that on 23 March 2006 we were accepted as a member of the Association of Jersey Charities.
