Newbie Guide
  • First of all, we would like to welcome you to Neopets - and our site! We assume you are new here since you clicked this link. We can also conclude that you need help on this virtual journey ahead of you. No need to worry, you have everything on this page to get you going!
Accounts
Creating an account on neopets.com is very easy. First, you need to get on Neopets.com main page. (www.neopets.com) When you get there, there should be a little light bulb with “Sign up” written beside it. Signing up with neopets.com is free so you won’t need a credit card or special permission from your parents. After clicking the link, you should come to a page that asks you for your age group. If you choose any category besides the “18 and over”, you need to fill up a “Parental Consent Form” which you can find here. This being done, you should now have to fill up an admission form. “Note” Remember that you cannot change your username once your form is approved. When it is approved (remember that many usernames have been chosen already) you should come to a page that asks you for your activation number. Neopets.com should have sent it to the email address you entered in your application form, so make sure it is a valid one. Once you have received the message in your email inbox, click on the link and you’re done!! Congratulations! You have created your account!! Now, about signing in....

To sign in, you need to be on Neopets.com main page (www.neopets.com). On the yellow menu on the left side of the screen, scroll down and you should see a link that says “Login”. Click on it. Enter your username in the space provided. If you have forgotten your password, you can enter your username on this page to have it sent to you. You should receive it correctly if you entered a valid email address in your application form and if you have selected an age group “over 13” when you created your account. If you have no trouble remembering your password, you can proceed to the next step, which is entering it on the next page. Verify if the pet’s name displayed is the right name and enter your password. Remember never to tell anyone your password or someone could hack into your account and steal everything it contains. Also, enter the “Secret code”, it always changes and is there for security reasons! Now, about creating your first pet or just adding a new one to your account.

Pets
Creating a pet, being your first one or your third, is always the same procedure. First, on the yellow bar (being the main menu) on the left side of the screen, click the link that says: “Create a pet”. There are nearly 50 species you can choose from. You can see more pets when you click the “More Neopets” button. Sadly, not all neopets are available. When you have chosen your neopet, you should be directed to a page where it asks you to choose it a name, gender, color and other options. The three last options are not very important, as they do not change your pet’s appearance or stats. Remember that as in usernames, many pet’s name have been chosen already, so try to be original or add numbers (i.e. Kara15456). Once your name has been approved, you enter step 3 of creating a pet, choosing its stats. Know that if you re-roll your stats, you cannot go back and choose the previous stats. Don’t worry too much about them, because you can train your pet to get it better stats. Once you are happy with your stats, click the “Enter Neopia” button and you’re done!! Now, about taking feeding it…

Feeding your pet
Feeding your pet can be very simple or very expensive. It is really up to you. You can either feed your pet with omelettes (http://www.neopets.com/prehistoric/omelette.phtml) or enter it in the gourmet club (http://www.neopets.com/gourmet_club.phtml). The gourmet club is actually a hi-score table that indicates how many rare foods you have fed your pet with. Rare food is a food that has a rarity index between 90 and 100. You can check the rarity of the food by clicking on the item in your inventory. Your inventory is where your items are kept. You can access your inventory in two way, the first way is by clicking “Pet Central” on the yellow main menu on the left of the screen, and clicking on “Your items” which is the seventh button on the top of the page. The second way is by clicking on “Shops” on the main menu and then on the first icon of the top yellow bar that looks like a sundae. Now, about increasing your stats…

Training your pet
You can train your pet in four ways, two of the ways are a lot faster but cost a lot more but they are the most widely used. One uses codestones and the other dubloons. The first is the mystery island training school (http://www.neopets.com/island/training.phtml), which accepts only codestones. The second one is the krawk island academy (http://www.neopets.com/pirates/academy.phtml), which only accept payments in dubloons. To know all about training, go here (http://maraqua.com/battle/training.htm). The free way is Coltzan’s shrine, you can only go once per day and it’s not certain you’ll get an extra stats, the freebie depends on the time you go. The other way is completely random, it is faeries quests, depending on the faerie giving you the quest, she increases a specific stat. Faerie quests are completely random, so there is no knowing which one you’ll get. If you want to know more about faerie quests, click A HREF="http://www.freewebs.com/jerdana/guides/faeriequests.html">.::here::. Now, about getting np...

Setting your Shop
Creating a shop is a very popular way of making np. It is also one of the least complicated. To create a shop, go to shops on the main menu and click on shop (the little house), which is the second icon on the menu bar. When you get there, click on “Create/Edit a shop”. Once you do that, you need to fill the blank spaces. By the way, the codes you get for the shop blogs when you click the “Shop Blogs” link, goes into the description part of your shop. You can also get some custom made shop blogs .::here::.! When you are done, click “Create a shop”. Be sure to have 150np! Your shop is now able to hold up to 5 items. You can upgrade your shop’s size to be able to hold more items by clicking the “Cost to upgrade button”; the cost should also be written on the button. For your shop to be valuable restock it as frequently as possible but make sure you actually sell your items at a higher price than what you spent for it. To restock your shop, you can scan the “Shop Wizard” (the hat icon on the “Shops” menu) for bargains or use the “Trading Post”, or shop in Neopia central. There are many shops lying around in Neopia: in Tyrannia, Mystery island, Kiko island ect. Remember that the 3rd of each month is ˝ price day in all of Neopia! Now, another easy way to get np…

Games
Of course, another popular way for getting np is playing games! Some games are easier than others to get np. Some you get tripled the score, double or half! On Maraqua.com, we have some great guides that can help you get a higher score or even a hi-score trophy!

To get to the games on Neopets.com, click on the games on the main menu. You get to choose between three types of games; adventure, puzzle and luck/chance game. The fourth option is the “Featured game”. When you play it, it gives you double the np you would usually get. After choosing a section, you can play any of the games listed. You need to have flash installed to play, which you can get at (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash) for FREE! To get the hi-score table for any of these games, you need to click on a game and scroll down at the bottom of the page. There should be three buttons: “Hi-Scores”, “My scores” and “Send feedback”. Hit “Hi-scores” if you want to see the top scorers for that current month. Click on “My scores” to see all your scores on every game you ever played, these do not reset, they accumulate. The “Send Feedback” button is where you give a rating for the displayed game. You can also use it to notify TNT (The Neopets Team) of any bugs or glitches you might experience while playing. Now, unto trading!

Trading Post
Trading on neopets.com is very easy. It works a little like your shop. You get there the same way but instead of clicking “Shops”, click the trading post button, Jhuidah’s head. Once you are there, click on “Create a New Trade”. Once there, select the items you want to trade and fill in the empty box at the end with your wish list. You can write what you want for it or why you are trading it. It is also a very popular way to mention what kind of items you’d like or if you will only accept np. When you hit the “Start trading” button, you have to wait at least 15 minutes canceling the trade, that way, it prevents spamming. When you have an offer, it appears on top of whatever neopets.com page you are viewing, clicking on the link gets you directly to the trading post main page and displays the offers for all of your trades. Click the # of offers you have and either refuse or accept their offer. Remember, once you accept or refuse, the trade is done and you cannot go back. You can also wait to see if you get a better offer but I don’t recommend waiting for more than 5 minutes because the buyer would eventually cancel his offer. If you want to cancel an offer you have made, click the “Offers you have made” link. This should show you all the offers you have made that have not been responded to yet. Here is where you can cancel your offer by clicking the correct button. Make sure that before you make any offer, you should check the shop wizard or the browse the Trading post (click the “browse lots” button) for any possible lower prices. Remember also that you need to include an item with any offer you make; the Trading post does not take only pure np.

The Stock market
The Stock market button is located in the games section of Neopets.com at the bottom of the page. The stock market is pretty much straight forward. What you do is; you buy and you sell. The real trick however, is to getting cheap stocks and waiting for them to be valuable enough to sell them at a high price. The minimum cost for a buyable stock is 15 np, if the cost is less than 15 np, you can’t buy it. The help section is pretty useful but you can always check the “Neopian times” (located in the “World” link on the main menu) for tips and also hang around the “Stock tips” Neoboard. All the stocks you ever bought (and haven’t sold) should be displayed when you hit the “My Portfolio” button. The “Open” price is the price the stock started at, that day. The “current” price is the price it actually is right now. The “Chg” means the change in value in the stock’s price; it’s negative if it went down and positive if it went up. The “paid” price is the value at which you bought the price and the “Mkt value” is the profit you would make if you would sell it now. Obviously, you should wait until the “Mkt value” is pretty high, in other words, that the “Current” price is a lot higher than the “Paid” price. This is a very loose overview of the neopian stock market, you can always get tips on the boards or in the neopian times.

Free stuff
Neopia has many places where you can get free stuff, training or healing that would be costly to get. Mystery Island has the “Tombola”, you are allowed one spin a day for only one of your accounts. The lost desert has “Coltzan’s shrine” and the “Fruit machine”. Both are one time a day freebies. Again, for only one of your accounts. The “Fruit machine” gives out items and “Coltzan’s shrine” also gives out items or increased stats. Terror Mountain has the “Snowager” which doesn’t really give out items but sleeps during certain times of the day where you can go sneak in and steal something from his pile of treasure. Of course, he can always wake up. :O) Tyrannia has the free “omelette” on its plateau you can get once per day. It is great for feeding your pet.

Of course, there is Faerieland! At the healing springs, you can get free healing every hour. The water faerie can cure your pets if its hp is depleted or she can heal your pet from any disease it might have. In Neopia, there are three wheels located each in different spots. Faerieland, Tyrannia and the haunted fairgrounds. The Haunted Fairgrounds is located in the haunted woods map. The Faerieland wheel, the Wheel of Excitement costs 150np to give it a spin, this wheel has better odds than the other two so it’s more costly. The Tyrannian wheel, the Wheel of Mediocrity, costs 50np a spin and has better odds than the Wheel of Misfortune. The Haunted fairground’s wheel, the Wheel of Misfortune, costs 100np a spin but you have low chances of getting anything except maybe a modified plushie. You can go to all of these different places in Neopia by clicking the “Explore” link on the main menu bar and clicking on the map that appears. To go to either of these links faster, click .::here::.

Competitions
There are many competitions in Neopia. The Beauty contest is more or less a drawing competition. The Art gallery is also a drawing competition but unlike the Beauty contest, there is no voting involved. There are also gallery spotlights for your shop or your neohome. There is the story telling competition as well as poetry contest. All of the competitions are free to enter.

Guilds
A guild is a clan where many neopians share at least one common interest. It is composed of a council, or guild leaders and of different ranking members. Usually, guilds are opened to everyone but some are private and you need to contact the guild leader to join. Guilds can be very helpful, and besides giving you more insights to the neopets game, it can give you friends and good deals.

You can browse the available guilds in Neopia by clicking the “Guild Head Quarters” button located in the “Shops” menu. There are many neighborhoods to choose from, so you may choose according to your interests. After choosing a neighborhood, you can browse the list of available guilds. The number in brackets is the number of members it has. There should also be a description that can help you choose the guild that really suits your interest. You can also go into the Neoboards in the “Guilds” section to look for guilds. This is the place where guild recruiters advertise for their guild, so you can look for an active guild faster. To join our guild (which is great !!) click .::here::. and click the “Join Guild” button on the left.

Neoboards
The message boards can be found on the “Boards” link on the left of the browser. There are many sections to choose from. Choose a section that best suits what you want to post about. (i.e. If you want to post an advertisement for your shop, go to the “Shop Ads” section.)

Rules apply when using the chat boards. You can view them .::here::.. If you do not follow the Neopets rules, you account will be permanently frozen. However, if you ever come across a rule-breaker that is not apprehended, you can contribute by reporting them using this form!

Posting on the boards is not difficult. Click on the “New Topic” link found on the top-left of the browser. Enter your “Topic title”, your topic title is what others will see, so make it clear, especially if it’s for a trade or an advertisement. Next, type your message. This message will be the first post on your thread, so anyone coming in will see it. It should explain your topic title or at least make sense with it.

Posting on a thread is even easier. Go at the bottom of the page and you will see a form. Enter your message; you can also include the smillies and the options located on the left.

Avatars are the little icons that appear on your post. TNT releases different avatars once in a while and they are always changing. You can change your avatar, signature and Neohtml on the neoboards’ main page when you click the link “Chat preferences.”
