Being an artist can be defined as a person who expresses themselves through a medium, having the freedom to express their imagination or to simply tell a story. The art created, by any medium, is intended to stimulate the human senses and mind. It can depict a mood, inspire, represent, embellish, and decorate. To reveal pure visual pleasure from the impact of color, shape, line, value and texture.
I try to remember when my passion for art began, and I have no idea..except knowing that most of my family has always had some sort of creative and artistic flare. One would say that they were, and still are, musically inclined. Me..not so much, I'm sure if I practiced I could one day be a great pianist like I imagined I would be but for now I would rather create the picture for a song. It took me a few years until I realized what my medium of choice was. I began to draw still life and realistic images based from pictures in a book. I was never one to just sit and draw something from my head because I assumed it had to look real and perfect, which was frustrating and time consuming. So then I picked up a paintbrush and realized how amazing it was to create something surreal and abstract.
Experimenting with paint became an addiction. Mistakes on canvas soon turned into new ideas. The use of biomorphic shapes began to appear playful and whimsical. The intensity of using bright and vivid colors made the picture pop. And of course, texture. For texture, I began to roughen up my canvas prior to painting so it would create more depth within. All of these elements slowly became my style-abstract, and dreamlike!
I hope you enjoy what I have created and the many more new creations that I will have accomplished within the next few weeks. So please bookmark me and check back regularly for more updates.
