Till there was you...

SJP NYC:The SATC Inspired Perfume!!

Parker to release SATC-inspired perfumeThe star of the series and movies is reportedly launching a fragrance inspired by Sex and the City and her character Carrie Bradshaw, and calling it SJP NYC!

The fashionista tells WWD, A large part of the inspiration was what I now understand to be peoples impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street and what feelings that evokes for her and for them a real sense of freedom and possibilities, a love for the city around her and, of course, fashion. In the ad there is the tagline "fashion's in the air"!!

The SJP NYC ad visual

SJP NYC will feature notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus, and wild red strawberries, and will be sold exclusively at Macys in February, which is mere months away from the release of the second SATC film. The perfume will be launched by Coty Prestige like SJ's previous perfumes!
The packaging was designed to look like Bradshaws famously over-stuffed closet featuring a simple glass bottle encased in a reusable canister and topped with a hot pink cap. The fragrance collection will include eau de toilette in three sizes as well as a body lotion, priced between $25-$49. A cuff bracelet with solid perfume will debut in May.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker has described her new perfume as a "party in a bottle".

  • Parker has released 6 previous fragrances - Lovely,Covet,Cove Pure Bloom and The Lovely Collection(:Endless,Dawn,Twilight).

Details of the plan are still in development, although in-store appearances and promotions tied to the movies premiere are planned. Promotion vehicles will include cosmetics bags, bangles and a reversible tote bag. We did some activity around the first Sex and the City movie, but didnt have another new scent coming out at that time, Timiraos noted(Carlos Timiraos, group vice president of global marketing, celebrity fragrances, for Coty Prestige). After that movie did around $500 million globally, we bet on the expectation that lightning would strike twice, and we began developing SJP NYC. Originally a code name for the scent, the SJP NYC moniker stuck, in part due to the fragrances inspiration.

A large part of the inspiration was what I now understand to be peoples impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street and what feelings that evokes for her and for them a real sense of freedom and possibilities, a love for the city around her and, of course, fashion, Parker told WWD: We started with this idea that we wanted to create something fun. We wanted to create a party in a bottle and reflect that in the packaging with a real sense of whimsy, fun and joie de vivre. And then we took it from there. Portability and fashion played key roles in the development of the packaging and overall concept.

The scent, a fruity floral by Parker and Firmenichs Honorine Blanc, has top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries; a heart of gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa and red rose damascenia, and a drydown of sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavor and creamy musks.

SJP NYC

FIFI winner Parker noted the scent itself is something of a departure for her. Its unusual for me because this fragrance is surprisingly floral, which I keep thinking I am not sophisticated or mature enough for, said Parker. Previous scents, such as 2005s Lovely (still in the top 50 womens fragrances in the U.S., according to NPD) and 2007s Covet (which is winding down distribution in the U.S.), included notes such as apple martini and amber (Lovely) and geranium leaves (Covet). But the most surprising aspect [of SJP NYC] is the strawberry note that looms nicely at the top of the fragrance, Parker continued. The reason it surprises me is because I have this idea in my head that strawberry is very youthful and juvenile, but this fragrance doesnt smell candy sweet. It amazes me that this essence of strawberry mixes so beautifully with the more sophisticated floral notes and the musks that I love and will always have as part of my fragrances. In a million years I would never think, Lets work around strawberry.
The collection consists of eaux de toilette in three sizes 15 ml. for $25, 30 ml. for $35 and 60 ml. for $49 as well as a 200-ml. body lotion for $25. A cuff bracelet with solid perfume, tentatively priced at $35, will follow in May.

The SJP NYC ad visual
Packaging, designed by Parker and Coty Prestiges Jon Dinapoli, consists of a simple glass bottle housed in a multipatterned reusable canister intended to evoke the look of Carrie Bradshaws famous closet. It is topped with a hot pink cap debossed with the gold SJP NYC logo. Because we wanted to incorporate the sense of fashion, it was a different process [than my other scents have been], said Parker. And of course the packaging has to fit the juice. I love where we arrived with both the juice and the packaging.

SJP NYC will bow first in Macys 750 doors in February. In May, coinciding with the release of the second Sex and the City movie, the fragrance will expand its reach to an additional 1,500 department and specialty store doors in the U.S., and to 16 countries for a total of about 10,000 doors worldwide at full distribution.

Print advertising, shot by Solve Sundsbo with creative direction by Trey Laird of Laird and Partners, will break in February fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines, noted Susan Kelly, senior director of global marketing for Sarah Jessica Parker Fragrances. The visual is of Parker in a floral couture Oscar de la Renta gown. What I love about Sarah Jessica is that she breathes life into everything she wears, the designer told WWD. She loves fashion and knows exactly what she likes. She is a designers dream.

While none of the executives would discuss sales projections or advertising spending, industry sources estimated NYC could do upward of $50 million at retail globally in its first year on counter, with about half that figure expected to be generated in the U.S. Sources estimated Coty will spend about $20 million on advertising and promotion globally, with about half of that figure to be spent in the U.S.

No slouch in the work ethic department, Parker is already at work on her next scent. We have been concentrating primarily on SJP NYC, and enjoying creating that entire package, which has been such a wonderfully different focus than other fragrances in our house, said Parker. Other than that, we have been working on another fragrance and that has been my sole focus outside my work as an actor-producer. (source:wwwd.com) See the full article here:http://www.wwd.com/beauty-industry-news/carrie-on-sarah-jessica-parker-launching-new-scent-2344517?src=bblast/101609#/article/beauty-industry-news/carrie-on-sarah-jessica-parker-launching-new-scent-2344517?page=1

"How do women think about time and relate to time, how we use time and what is special. How do you stop and hold on to time – whether you¢re a mother, sister, or friend?" ''(people.com)

The Perfume Goddess is back!!!

11/7/08

The Sarah Jessica Parker fragrance empire is expanding. Her first scent, Lovely, was an enormous success that led to a complex scent called Covet. That one is no longer in most stores, and she's still working on a genderless scent. But beginning in February, she'll extend the Lovely line to include three new scents based on the concept of time: Dawn, Endless, and Twilight

“Dawn is the fresh and clean scent,” Parker told WWD. “Its inspiration was morning, sunrise. It’s about enjoying those few moments for yourself, stepping out and welcoming what the day has to bring your way. Endless is the fruity, floral scent. The inspiration for this one was those moments you find yourself in a state of pure happiness, loving life. And Twilight is the sexy, musky scent. This one is for those moments of intimacy, of love, and being close. It’s slightly complex and mysterious.”
Known as The Lovely Collection, the scents will be available in February, launching on HSN and then moving to Ulta and other stores. Each one will be available as an eau de parfum ($38–$58) and a body lotion ($28), and each will receive its own marketing and advertising push.(thanks to bellasugar.com)

SJ in Pleasanton

7/20/08

Hundreds gathered at the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton, CA on Thursday as they waited to meet Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker.
The crowds of women, lightly peppered with the occasional man, waited anxiously yesterday in the Macy’s at Stoneridge Shopping Center for the star of HBO’s hit series Sex and the City to appear.
Parker was in town to promote Lovely, one of her fragrances, and to meet some of her more rural fans. Women arrived in their most stylish outfits with the hope of meeting the fashion idol, reported the Pleasanton Weekly.
According to the Mercury News, the line containing Parker’s fans extended through various sections of the store, eventually coming to an end on the sidewalk outside. Customers who were able to purchase the first 300 Lovely gift sets were given the chance to meet Parker and have their perfume bottles signed. They were surrounded by people taking pictures of the star. If that was too impersonal, a limited number of customers were able to enjoy a special champagne brunch with Parker for $400. Afterward, they each walked away with the Lovely gift set as well as complimentary Sex and the City products.
Susan Parker, the store manager, commented on their guest’s gracious behavior, and told the Mercury News that no security problems were reported. “She wasn’t going to leave until she met everyone.” After the event, Sarah stayed at Pleasanton’s own Rose Hotel. (thecelebritycafe.com)

Fragrant SJP

11/28/07

Hello magazine has a special list on celebrity perfumes called ''Fragrant celebrities-signature perfumes from scent savvy stars''.Of course SJP with Covet was in the list..

"If I get the opportunity," said the Sex And The City star as she launched her last perfume Lovely back in 2005, "my next scent will be genderless. Fuller. Riskier." And it seems the actress has got her wish. Covet is a daring scent, with an oriental base highlighted by notes of musk and chocolate. "I would say it's an addictive scent," says Sarah, "it draws you in and keeps you coming back for more. Once you experience it, you'll have to have it over and over again! The fragrance was based on the idea of geranium and musk. We added chocolate to give it a feeling of overall indulgence" {source:hellomagazine.com}

SJP talks about perfumes in ''In Style''

11/25/07

In the December's issue of In Style magazine,SJP talks about her favourites perfumes and especially her own,Covet.

-How is your new fragrance,Covet, different from Lovely, the first one you hepled created?

''Lovely is very polite. It's the girl you marry, and Covet is the girl you date, you know?Covet is fun, slightly wanton, desperate. It's for a stop-at-nothing-to-get-what-you-want  kind of girl.''

-What was the first scent you wore?

''Love's Baby Soft''

-If you got a whiff of it right now, what memories would it trigger?

''It would be seventh grade and not having enough disposable money. It would be Fiorucci,a shirt tied in the knot at the waste, and the Yankees. It would be fighting with my brothers and sisters before school and my mother yelling at me,and not finishing my homework on a Sunday night.

-Do you wear fragrance every day?

''Without question. For some women,it's lip gloss or mascara or covering a blemish.I can do without all of that. But the idea of not putting perfume is shocking to me.''

-W here do you apply it?

''I love walking into a closet and smelling lingering aroma so I always spray my clothes. And at the end of the bottle, when the atomizer no longer reaches the tine little dribble that is left,I unscrew the top and pour the remainder onto a T-shirt or my dress''

-What's your favourite men's scent?

''My second older brother wears Old Spice, and my father wore Mennen aftershave.Mennen smells so gorgeous..I really love Old Spice and Guerlain Vetiver for men.''

-What home fragrance do you love?

''There's nothing better that a blue Rigaud candle.''

-Do you have a favorite flower or fruit scent?

''I love a peony when it's really in seasonand I love mellons.''[source:instyle.com]

SJP in Portland to promote Covet

8/22/07

Sarah Jessica Parker, famous for her fashion sense, looked around her plane from New York and thought: "Wow. We are going to Portland."
The actress was on a whirlwind 15-hour, first visit to Portland for a noontime appearance Friday at Macy's in Washington Square to promote her new fragrance, Covet. A crowd of about 650, mostly young and almost exclusively female, gathered, some surprised to learn that they couldn't get an autograph without buying the $140 fragrance gift set. About 25 who spent $400 or more on the fragrance line got a quiet private meeting with Parker.
"She's so pretty," said 16-year-old Richelle, who traveled from Yakima hoping for a glimpse of the "Sex and the City" actress. "I like everything she wears."
Friends Jodi, 24, and Henry, 22 shared gossip and giggles while waiting nearly two hours for an autograph. Why?

"Because she's Sarah Jessica Parker," Henry said with a laugh.[source:oregonlive.com]

SJP's COVET AD!!

5/1/07
Covet_Bottle.png

Notes for Covet include "top notes of wet greens, geranium leaves, Sicilian lemon, lavender and chocolate; a heart of honeysuckle, magnolia and muguet, and a drydown of musk, vetiver, bois de cashmere, teakwood and amber." The perfume was created with perfume consultant Ann Gottlieb and perfumer Frank Volkl of Firmenich.

The advertisement represents SJP in a Christian Lacroix dress after she has been jailed in Paris for not being able top resist the temptation of stealing a bottle of Covet in a window display of which she smashed the glass with her stiletto shoe: "I had to have it!".

"Eaux de toilette will be offered in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $52 and 3.4 oz. for $68. A 6.7-oz. body lotion, $32, and a 6.7-oz. shower gel, $28, will also be sold. The peridot-hued bottle has a jeweled cap and a gold herringbone neck and was designed by Chad Levigne," I love this bottle.

Finally, a tidbit of news about the long-rumored new fragrance release from Sarah Jessica Parker. According toWomen's Wear Daily it is called "Covet Sarah Jessica Parker", but I think we'll just call it "Sarah Jessica Parker Covet" just to keep our sentiments clear. The only clues about the fragrance itself: a "fougère on estrogen"; the "peridot-hued bottle has a gold herringbone neck and a jeweled top". Macy's will have an exclusive starting in July, it rolls out elsewhere in August.[source:nowsmellthis.blogharbor.com]

hellomagazine -special [11/25/06]

Like her Sex And The City character, style icon Sarah Jessica Parker is unashamedly feminine, and renowned for her chic wardrobe worn with beautiful accessories. So it comes as no surprise that her fragrance Lovely bottles up that winning essence. With subtle notes of juicy mandarin, sparkling apple martini and creamy orchid, it has all the elements of a classic.

Fragrance has been important from childhood to the actress who says she's been mixing her own scents since 1984, layering several to create her own signature smell. "I've always, always, always thought about creating my own scent," she says. "After 20 years, I got brave enough to talk to my agent about it." What followed was a collaboration that saw Sarah involved every step of the way. "This is a part of my life I want to share with others... I really, really thought about it. I've been invited into women's lives and I take that seriously."

Five hot finds

1. Lovely. My new favorite scent. It's got Sarah Jessica Parker's name on it, and yes, that's probably why I tried it, but I love it because I like the scent. Not to heavy, not to sweet. It's just right. [ranked 1-November 6 this article published]

Smells like celebrity spirit

Slather yourself in Sarah Jessica Parker. Douse yourself with Donald Trump. Bathe in Britney Spears.

Lovely, Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Jessica Parker Beauty)

Company Line: "Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker is inspired by her love for layering fragrances. A scent that captures her love for fashion and style, Lovely blends silky white amber with exotic patchouli oil and crisp apple martini. A fragrance for the sophisticated, romantic and flirty woman."

Looks Like: A pink tear drop.

Perfume Blogger Says: "It's probably the only one on your list I would buy with a straight face to give someone," says Dodge of Perfume Posse. "I don't own it or wear it, but only because it's not to my personal taste. I think it's a lovely scent, subtly nuanced — and that right there would be something missing from your basic celebrity scent — and a soft, musk skin scent rather than an overtly sweet fruity-floral."

SARAH BRINGS FRAGRANT GLAM TO THE CITY OF LIGHT

3 OCTOBER 2006

During her time as Sex And The City's leading lady, Sarah Jessica Parker earned a reputation for her cutting-edge style statements. The diminutive performer went for a rather more classic look when she paid a visit to the romantic destination of Paris, though.

The striking blonde was photographed in a strapless white ballgown with long black gloves as she filmed an advertisement in the City of Light. Having recently finished work on a new drama with British screen veteran Miranda Richardson, the popular actress had jetted into the European country to film a new ad for her perfume Lovely.

Sarah is making quite an impact with her foray into the world of cosmetics. Following on from the success of her fragrance, she has recently launched a range of skincare products called Liquid Satin. The 41-year-old says she doesn't want to follow in the footsteps of other major stars by endorsing a wide array of products, though. "I am very good at saying no," she explained. "I am not particularly swayed by money because I don't think it is the reward I am looking for - I have to feel proud of stuff at the end of the day."

And regardless of what opportunities life on the A-list may bring her way, the award-winning actress says she struggles with the same uncertainties as any other working mum." I constantly worry I am coming up short. It is the same thing every working mother copes with," she said. "We all cope exactly the same way, which is with pride, with anxiety, with disappointment, and failure and small victories."

In the clip the Sex And The City heroine has an unexpected encounter with the boys in blue

Sarah swapped the bright lights of New York for the historic backdrop of Paris when she filmed a new ad for her fragrance Lovely. Her trip to the French capital came just after she finished work on the drama Spinning Into Butter, which sees her starring opposite British, Miranda Richardson.   (Source)

LOVELY REVIEW

Lovely is everything a celebrity scent wants to be, but more than that: it’s not only popular and fits beautifully with the character of the woman who created it, but also – it is original and oh so chic. It might just be the first interesting celebrity perfume since, say Denevue (by Catherine Deneuve). If I missed something along the way, please let me know.

The first thing that strikes me about Lovely is the unusual use of lavender and patchouli in such a light hearted context. This was no tutti-frutti fragrance as you may expect judging by the hundreds of perfumes (even more so with celebrity and drugstore fragrances) released recently. It had an original, elegantly rough edge to it. Lovely is modern chic, sharp like clean-cut like a tailored suit, yet flowing like a satin gown. It’s prettied-up only by an ornamental fabric rose - and more importantly, the bright smile of the person who wears it. Despite the fact that it does have florals, it is not floral in the traditional sense of the word. You don’t think of flowers when you wear lovely. If anything at all, you think of textures and fabrics such as crepe and linen and dull, brushed silk.

Now, about a year after its release, my patience to hold off a purchase has paid off: a new version has been just released. It’s the same fragrance, only based in an alcohol-free, silicone-based medium, and titled “Lovely Liquid Satin”. And liquid satin it is indeed. This formulation allows for a softer presence without the alcohol that usually interferes with the top notes, and also the bottle is truly lovely – a frosted, light pink hued bottle, or a golden “perfume wand” – a roll on of 30ml that fits into any purse or pocket. I am a big believer in small packaging for perfumes, so I was sold quickly on this one.

The opening of both formulations is a heady and clean, crisp mélange of rosewood, lavender and apple martini. The apple martini note is brilliant. It really adds an unusually vivid, effervescent quality to the opening and thankfully lacks the mustiness that some other apple scents uphold.* It’s boozy only in an elegant way – like sipping on the cocktail to appreciate the flavour, without getting drunk.

The Liquid Satin has a slightly different opening, in which I can detect top notes of lemongrass (which I do not smell in the alcohol based fragrance), which is sharp and grassy, but thankfully fades out rather quickly. The patchouli note is also more pronounced at the opening. I have a feeling that this silicone based version is more true to the original concoction by Ms. Parker. It just has that authentic impression of a perfume enthusiast blending scents together that will bear her own character.

The heart notes are abstract florals – orchids and paper whites. Paper whites are not fancy silken paper sheets as I was almost lead to believe, but rather refer to a flower from the narcissi family - Narcissus tazetta. I can’t say that I smell narcissus in there, but there is a light floral impression that is hard to describe. As I said – abstract.

These soft, ethereal florals bridge into an even more abstract base of highly processed patchouli (dry and clean rather than earthy and musty), amber and musk – together resulting in an effect that is very close to the skin. An original, clean musk skin scent, subtly surrounding the wearer with a mystifying aura that is clean and pleasant. I prefer the Liquid Satin over the alcohol based formulation. Although the scent is essentially the same, this version is softer and even more subtle.

Lovely has been compared often to Narciso Rodriguez, and while I agree that they are very similar, I still think of Lovely as an original fragrance. These are both light musk scents, very modern and abstract, with a suggestive floral heart, and an effervescent, boozy opening. But Lovely has a certain dry, almost rough edge to it that makes it stand apart and prevents it from looking like an imitation of Narciso Rodriguez (which I intend on reviewing very soon).

Celebrities and their scents come and go, but there is something about Lovely that makes me want it to stay. And if it wouldn’t stick around forever, I am certain it would be talked about and missed and longed for much like other old favourites that have disappeared into the abyss of discontinuation.

Top notes: Rosewood, Apple Martini, Lavender, Madarin, Lemongrass
Heart notes: Paperwhites, Orchid,
Base: Patchouli, Cedar, White Amber, Musk
