Till there was you...

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Friends is a 10 year running tv show, on NBC's killer Thursday night line-up. It's about the love-lifes, stupid mistakes, jokes, and most often funny or ridiculus decisions of Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer), a young thrities dorky palientologist whose been divorced 3 times, and has one son from his lesbian ex-wife; Ross' sister, Monica Gellar (Courtney Cox-Arquette), a chef who just recently tied the knot with Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), a corporate type guy with a slightly weird sense of humor, who everyone thinks is gay. Then there's Joey Tribiani (Matt LeBlanc), a struggling actor with the brains of a rock, but a heart (and he wishes something else, too ;-) the size of the empire state building; Pheobe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), a song writer/masuse/aroma therapist whose slightly wacked; and Ross' divorce #3 and Monica's best friend, Rachel Greene (Jennifer Aniston). Whether it's Ross' latest "I take thee Rachel... I mean, Emily! I take thee Emily!"; Monica and Chandler trying to hide their relationship from the gang; or Phoebe's latest song, every episode is full of laughs.

Friends reunion?

7/3/08

The Sex And The City film  is headed for a global box office total of well over $310million and that number exceeds all pre-release expectations and insiders say US studio Warner Bros is now mining its recent library of TV hits for other projects ready for the movie treatment. So many shows like The X Files,Entourage and 24 are ready for their big screen adaptations. The source told MailOnline: ‘Friends is at the top of the list of properties that can do the same level of business Sex And The City did.’

There were rumours for four years but the highly anticipated film production of TV series Friends has finally been given the go-ahead, MailOnline has learned. All the cast members will reprise their roles for a big screen adaptation ‘within the next 18 months’, according to insiders. The actors have been inspired by the recent success of Sex And The City, which recently hit cimemas worldwide.A source said: ''Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances. The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.''While Cox,LeBlanc,Perry,Kudrow and Schwimmer were believed to be keen on the reunion, Aniston is believed to have dragged her heels. Now, however, she is keen to move ahead with the project, which will be produced by Warner Bros.

The source added: ''As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can’t help but look at what’s happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous. What’s held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again. But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she’d love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again. She and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly. It really comes down to money, and I don’t think Jen has a problem with all of the Friends getting huge paydays for the movie. In that sense, it’s Sex And The City all over again. There’s no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially.''

Lisa Kudrow says:"I think it would be so fun to be with all those people again, but our show was not like 'Sex and the City,' which was a single camera, filmic show anyway. Ours was multi-camera, in front of a live audience. It's a completely different feel. You'd have to bring the tone down, and I don't know how it would be. I'll just stay open."(celebritymound.com)

-7/7/08 The claims that there will be a 'Friends' movie have been refuted by executives at Warner Bros, the studio behind Friends.Jayne Trotman, Warner's director of publicity in the U.K., says, "(There's) no truth in the story."And publicists for both Cox and Perry have also stepped in to deny the rumors.Perry's spokeswoman, Lisa Kasteler, adds, "Nothing is happening in this regard, so the rumor is false."(www.postchronicle.com)

Greatest TV Show Ever!

Empire made a list:The 50 Greatest TV Shows Of All Time and here is what they wrote for 'Friends' which took the 7th place!!:

How is it that Channel 4 can show the quintessential '90s sitcom on a virtual loop and it doesn't get old? It's because Friends, at its best, is as perfect a sitcom as you will find. In its earliest days, the adventures of six beautiful pals who apparently earned money by drinking coffee featured writing much sharper than the cuddly exterior suggested. Even when the quality dipped a little mid-run, the ensemble remained perfectly matched and the best comedy collective on TV.Best episode:The One With The Prom Video (Season 2, Episode 14). Joey and Chandler fall out and make up; Rachel realises why she loves Ross; and, thanks to a home video, we meet fat Monica. The show's whole ethos in 22 minutes.(in the top 6 we find:6.24,5.Lost,4.The West Wing,3.The Sopranos,2.Buffy-the vampire slayer,1.The Simpsons(empireonline.com)

-Also David Schwimmer while promoting his movie directorial debut, Run, Fat Boy, Run,he  answered in the rumous that like SATC,X-Files(maybe Buffy..and 24)there will be a Friends reunion on big screen: "I don't think I would (play Ross again). The way it ended felt so right. I don't want to mess with it."(source:hollywood)

Entertainment Weekly posted it's list of ''The 100 Greatest TV Icons'' Among tv hosts,tv stars,tv legends there she was..Jennifer!

39. JENNIFER ANISTON
She had, of course, the hair. But it was her effortlessness as a comedian that made Rachel so much more than Friends' flaky waitress. You never noticed Aniston being charming or hilarious or deeply touching. She just was. In fact, we didn't realize the depth of our love until there she was in ''The One With the Prom Video,'' pressed against us in perhaps sitcomdom's most perfectly passionate kiss. Well, pressed against Ross, but no matter — we were just as smitten..(source:ew.com)

-As far as a "Friends" reunion Courtney Cox says "I don't think so," Cox, 43, tells Us Weekly in its latest issue. "But I would never say 100 percent no."

Scwimmer rules out FRIENDS reunited

9.7.07

David Schwimmer has claimed he will not be playing the character Ross Gellar from the hit show again.

"We are not getting back together," he said. "I have not been approached; none of the producers have been approached."

He admitted that, even if there were some plans in action, he would still turn down the offer of reprising his role as geeky palaeontologist Ross.

"If I was asked to do it, I'd say 'No'. It was ten years ago and it's time to move on."[source:teamsugar]

Jennifer Aniston Not Interested In Reprising Rachel Role

7/21/07
Jennifer Aniston has ruined the chances of a 'Friends' reunion by saying she will never play Rachel Green again.

The Hollywood actress has scuppered chances of a TV special or movie version of the hit show by saying she isn't interested in reprising her role.A source said: "There have been whispers of a 'Friends' movie for a while now, especially with the 'Sex and the City' film finally getting the go-ahead."But it can't happen without Jen and she thinks 'Friends' has had it's time and she should move on with her film career.Jennifer Aniston has ruined the chances of a 'Friends' reunion by saying she will never play Rachel Green again.[source:postchronicle.com]

Friends trivia

Courteney Cox was originally asked to play Rachel, but she asked to play Monica instead after reading the parts.

  • Jon Cryer was originally offered the role of Chandler Bing.
  • The role of Monica was originally offered to Janeane Garofalo, but she turned it down.
    • Other titles considered for the show were "Friends Like Us," "Six of One," and "Across the Hall." "Insomnia Cafe" was also considered.
    • The golden frame around the peephole was originally a mirror which one of the crew accidentally smashed. But because it still looked good they decided to leave it there.
    • Phoebe is the oldest of the friends.
    • Rachel's favorite flowers are lilies.
    • Joey's seven sisters are Veronica, Mary Angela, Mary Theresa, Gina, Dina, Tina, and Cookie.
    • When Matt LeBlanc auditioned for the role he only had $11 dollars to his name. When the cast got their paychecks, the first thing that Jennifer Aniston bought was a car. Matt LeBlanc bought a hot dinner.
    • Joey's pick-up line, "How *you* doin'?" was ranked #4 in TV Guide's list of "TV's 20 Top Catchphrases" (21-27 August 2005 issue).
    • Phoebe once had a roommate called Denise (the viewers and the Friends never get to see her), which was revealed when Rachel searches for a new place to live at, because Chandler and Monica are moving together and Rachel has to leave the apartment.
    • A Soviet propaganda poster on a wall of #19, with two people over a book, says in Russian: "To build, one must know. To know, one must learn." An antique-looking advertisement poster on a wall of #20 says in French: "Toys and Boxing-day presents".
    • Rachel had a nose job during her time at college.
    • In Chandler's and Joey's room there is a poster with boxing kangaroos which says "Kangaroo Boxer" in Russian.
    • In the last few months of shooting Friends, Courteney Cox became pregnant, but, seeing as Monica wasn't supposed to be able to have a baby, they covered up her pregnancy by making her wear baggy clothes while shooting the show so no one could tell.
    • In the first couple of episodes Chandler and Joey's apartment number was #4 and Monica and Rachel's apartment number was #5. However, in the later episodes, they are 19 and 20 respectively because the producers noted that 4 and 5 corresponded to apartments on lower floors and the Friends' apartments were higher up the building.
    • The first and last episodes are the only ones in the entire series that do not begin with "The One...". The first episode is called "The Pilot", and the final episode is called "The Last One". However, the first episode has a different version of it's name, namely "The one where it all began (The Pilot)" "The One Hundredth" also doesn't perfectly fit this pattern.
    • James Michael Tyler was given the part of Gunther because he knew how to operate an espresso machine.
    • Gunther was not originally a speaking part.
    • James Michael Tyler was actually working in a coffee shop in Hollywood when he got the part of Gunther. He kept his coffee gig for the first four seasons of Friends.
    • Leah Remini auditioned for the role of Monica.
    • June Gable who plays Joey's agent, Estelle Leonard, also played a nurse who delivered a baby for Leah Remini (who originally auditioned for the role of Monica) in the episode where Ross and Carol have their own baby. Joey assisted his future agent by being the breathing coach during labor.
    • Lisa Kudrow was terrified of the duck that showed up in Season 3.
    • Courteney Cox added Arquette to the end of her name after her marriage to David Arquette between seasons five and six. Her father, Richard L. Cox, died in 2001 and during the midst of the ninth season, she dropped the Arquette in her father's memory.
    • Matt LeBlanc's character 'Joey Tribbiani' plays Dr. Drake Ramoray in a fictional version of the NBC soap opera "Days of Our Lives" (1965). In real life, Jennifer Aniston's father, John Aniston, plays 'Victor Kiriakis' on the real Days of Our Lives.
    • As with most sitcoms, episode titles are not shown. As a joking reference to this, the official names of Friends episodes take the form "The One where..." (or similar).
    • Is filmed on the same soundstage that was used for the filming of the sitcom "Full House" (1987/I) during the last two seasons (1993-1995) of it's eight year run (1987-1995). The pilot of "Friends" was shot on stage 33 (the same stage as "Living Single" (1993)) at the Warner Ranch, and the first season was shot is Warner Bros Stage 5, now the home of "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996)) from 1987-1995.
    • At one point, Jennifer Aniston was shooting this series, Bruce Almighty (2003) and Along Came Polly (2004) at the same time.
    • 30-second commercial spots to take place in the final ever episode sold in the UK for £1.2 million (approx $1.8 million), the most expensive commercial slots of any TV program in England with the exception of sports.
    • The first member of the cast to get a role in a Hollywood film was Marcel the Monkey.
    • Before the show was cast, the main love interest was intended to be Monica and Joey.
    • Jennifer Aniston agreed to return for the series' 2003-04 season, which was the series' 10th and final season, only if production on the show would be finished by January, 2004, so she could focus on her film career.
    • At least three performers, 'Bruce Willis (I)' , Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd have guest-starred on episodes of the show after doing a film with one of the regular cast members. Willis and Applegate won Emmys for their guest turns.
    • The theme song performed by The Rembrandts became a #1 single on the American pop charts.
    • The characters' full names are:
      • Rachel Karen Green
      • Monica E. Geller (bought stock in MEG, only because the company had the same initials as her in "The One With The Bullies" 2.21)
      • Phoebe Buffay (in "The One Where They All Turn Thirty" 7.14, she says that never knew her middle name since she had never seen her birth certificate and her twin sister, Ursula, had sold it to a Swedish runaway)
      • Joseph Francis Tribbiani Jr
      • Chandler Muriel Bing
      • Ross Eustace Geller
    • Chandler's parents, Charles and Nora Bing, were named after the favorite Thin Man series character Nora Charles; one half of a very famous movie detective couple of the thirties.
    • The opening credits sequence in which the stars dance in a fountain was shot in Warner Bros LA lot at 4am. The water was kept heated through a pump. The group was given the words to the Rembrandts song but it was not playing in the background because the song had not been recorded. Jennifer Aniston is seen lip syncing the song in the opening and closing credits.
    • In the opening credits to part-two of the Vegas story line, all of the names in the opening (actors and crew) were changed to have "Arquette" at the end of them, a gag on Courteney Cox-Arquette who had just recently married David Arquette.
    • The final episode aired on 6 May 2004.
    • The role of Emily was offered to Patsy Kensit but she politely turned it down
    • James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles are the only non-Friends who were in all 10 seasons.
    • First choice for Rachel was Téa Leoni.
    • Whenever Tom Selleck made his initial on-set appearances, he received standing ovations. These would render his entrances unusable, prompting the need for later re-shoots without the audience.
    • No Friend ever made more money doing the show than any others. They started out making $22,500 per episode and ended up making $1million per show. All negotiations were done in unison. Kudrow said, "The six of us are far stronger than just one person."
    • The original idea for the show was going to focus on four characters with Phoebe and Chandler in supporting roles. In the early stages the creators toyed with the idea of Chandler being gay. They changed their mind when they met Matthew Perry. They did, however, insert many jokes about Chandler having gay mannerisms (not knowing about sports, loving show tunes, etc.).
    • In the pilot Barry's surname is Finkel. In later episodes, his name has been changed to Barry Farber.
    • The refrigerators in Monica's and Joey's apartments actually worked. Monica's was filled with water and other drinks for the cast and crew. Joey's was usually virtually empty, unless the inside of the fridge was going to be seen in a specific scene.
    • Joey's address is 495 Grove St. Apt. 19, New York, NY 10001.
    • Monica's address is 495 Grove St. Apt 20, New York, NY 10001.
    • Phoebe's address is 5 Morton St. Apt. 14.
    • Gunther didn't have a name until the middle of the second season.
    • Courteney Cox is the only regular cast member to not receive an Emmy nomination for their work on the show.
    • Joey's (Matt LeBlanc) picture on the wall of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy is a still from the short Leave 'Em Laughing (1928).
    • The artwork in Central Perk is changed every three episodes.
    • The story line of Phoebe having her brother's babies was thought up when Lisa Kudrow announced her real-life pregnancy. However, as she was not big enough to be having triplets, and the show was shot in "TV time", the costumers had to pad her to make her look bigger for the show.
    • The drawings on the Magna Doodle in Joey's apartment are done by Paul Shaffer, the Electrical Best Boy.
    • Joey's statue of a white dog was originally given to Jennifer Aniston as a good luck present from her best friend when she started acting. She offered to lend it to the show for the episode where Joey became rich and bought a lot of stuff. After that episode, the producers decided to keep it.
    • On the set, Matt LeBlanc was known as "LeBlanc" by all the cast and crew, and Matthew Perry was known as "Matthew" or "Matt". This was started by the crew to avoid confusion.
    • Occasionally, NBC would air "Super-sized" episodes of their most popular sitcoms, including Friends. These episodes would run 40 minutes including commercials (or just around 30 minutes without). In syndication, a majority of the "Super-sized" episodes were cut down to fit a 30-minute time slot, except for the rare case where there was both too much plot info essential to the episode or series, and there were enough deleted scenes to make a two-episode story arc.
    • The orange couch used in Central Perk was found in the basement of the Warner Bros. studio.
    • For almost the entire first season, there wasn't a street outside of Central Perk, just a painted backdrop. They made the window a little blurry and put many plants in front of the window to hide it.
    • There have been eight Oscar winning actors/actresses who have appeared on Friends. Charlton Heston, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, Helen Hunt, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Robin Williams, and George Clooney.
    • Monica has eleven categories for towels.
    • For all the cliffhangers they had to remove the audience then continue filming so that nobody knew what was going to happen.
    • Chandler's father's gay Las Vegas burlesque show is named Viva Las Gaygas

    Friends Goofs

    • Continuity: As with any long-running show there are many inconsistencies between series. Characters' life histories, their birthdays and ages are reported differently from time to time as the writers invent new stuff for them that wasn't thought of when the series began.
    • Continuity: With an average of 24 episodes per season of a show which ran for ten seasons there are, inevitably, many hundreds of minor continuity errors, with cups, hair and clothes inexplicably moving between shots - even people sometimes.
    • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Even the show's designer has commented on the fact that the Central Perk sign on the window can be read correctly from both inside and outside the coffee shop. But viewers have noticed that the logo is symmetrical and suggest that it isn't unfeasible for the owners to have placed a sign on the inside of the window which completely covers the one on the outside, making it readable from both sides.
    • Revealing mistakes: When Monica walks in on Joey and Chandler watching a tape of Monica and Richard, Joey pulls Monica to the floor and you can see she is wearing knee pads to protect her knees when she gets pulled down.
    • Continuity: in the one with the Halloween party we see Phoebe (superwoman) with a straight parting and high pig tails. When we see Ursula, Phoebe's parting changes to a zig-zag and her pigtails are lower.
    • Factual errors: Joey is a regular on "Days of Our Lives" while living in New York. But "Days of Our Lives" is taped in Los Angeles.
    • Continuity: In early seasons there are wood boards in Monica's apartment that go from the floor to the ceiling. In later seasons there are only wood boards by the fridge.
    • Continuity: In earlier seasons, Chandler and Joey's apartment number is #5 while Monica and Rachel's is #6; in later seasons, the numbers change to #19 and #20.
    • Continuity: In "The One That Could Have Been" when Chandler is trying to tell Monica that he likes her, his hair is sometimes sticking through his hat and other times it is smoothed out under his hat.
    • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the pilot episode, the guy who Rachel left at the altar is called Barry Finkel. In all the other episodes his name is Barry Farber.
    • Continuity: In the episode where Rachel writes Ross the 18 page letter, after they get up from bed and Ross leaves, when Rachel yells "And just so you know, it's not that common, it doesn't happen to all men, and it is a big deal!", we see Chandler, Joey and Monica standing behind the table. When Rachel slams the door and walks away, Chandler has appeared behind the door.
