ABOUT ME
In March 1994 I completed my training at the Atkinson-Ball college of Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapy and Hypnohealing in London. Besides being a registered and fully paid-up member of the Hypnotherapy Register, I also have a Senior Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice from the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. (A prerequisite of these two associations is the appropriate indemnity insurance.)
I have been in private practice full time for more than thirteen years and in addition to having thousands of hours of practice, I have a wide experience of life, both academic (I graduated from Aberdeen University in Modern Languages; taught these subjects and had a successful private language school for a number of years) and non-academic; I worked in the building industry, the insurance industry and, for a number of years was self-employed, in silviculture to mention only a few of my occupational interests. So, modesty aside, I can confidently state I can relate to your problem however unique.
HYPNOSIS
When Milton Erickson, reputed by many to be one of the most outstanding hypnotherapists of the twentieth century, was asked 'what is hypnosis?' He answered simply, to the disappointment of many who expected a lengthy erudite definition, 'It's a tool' . And a very very powerful tool it is when used in conjunction with therapy. It is not my intention to give a historic outline of hypnotherapy, nor even a potted version. You who are reading this most likely have gained personally from hypnotherapy or know someone who has. Suffice to say hypnotherapy can and does help those with emotional problems; depression, panic attacks, anxiety, blushing, nail-biting, over-weight, addictions (drugs, alcohol, smoking). Hypnotherapy is also effective for lack of confidence in public speaking, job interviews, exams, and sports enhancement. I have treated the above issues successfully during my many years in practice. I have used Hypnohealing successfully for pain relief by using guided imagery.
A FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Is hypnotherapy safe? I'm often asked this question. Hypnotherapy practised by an experienced hypnotherapist is totally safe. There are no side effects whatsoever. Nowadays more and more General Practitioners are recommending hypnotherapy to their patients and some GPs themselves are administering hypnotherapy. However, as you are well aware, their time is severely limited.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS
As my approach to a client is holistic (looking at the whole person and not just the elimination of the specific problem which is often symptomatic) I will use psychotherapy and neurolinguistic programming (NLP) as well as hypnosis.
The first session will last approximately two hours; a lot of therapy can be done in that time. You have a problem. Let's get rid of it. Duration of subsequent sessions, if required, is approximately one and a half hours.
