Differences between the Japanese and English versions

Here are some picture differences between the Japanese version of Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal and the English version of Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal. Most of the pictures were changed because of cultural difference between Japan and the United States.

Monks (GSC)

This was changed because of religion difference between Japan and USA. Nintendo of America probably doesn't want any religious themes in the English version of Pokémon.

Swimmer♀ (GSC)

They must have changed this because the female swimmer in the Japanese version looks too revealing and shows too much skin.

Beauty (GSC)

They added more clothing in the English version and made her stop winking. Nintendo of America must have thought that she looked too seduceful

Pokémon Center and Mart/Shop signs (GSC)

This is changed for unknown reasons

Sonicboom (GSC)

The Sonicboom attack in the Japanese version resembles a boomerang (kind of like Guile's projectile from Street Fighter 2)  while the English version's look more like a tornado.

Goldenrod/Kogane Pokémon Center (C)

The Pokémon Center in Goldenrod in the Japanese Crystal version is replaced by the Pokémon Communication Center which contains rooms where people can trade Pokémon through mobile phones. Since the mobile phone wasn't readily available to children in the US back then, the PCC has been replaced with a regular Pokémon Center.
