Creative Works & Concepts

Graphic Arts & Art Direction

I have earned a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Arts from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. It was a concidered a comprhensive course at the time but during the semesters of 1985 though 1989 while I attended, it lacked enough computer courses to keep its students up to date with the ever changing marketplace. I was however, very comfortable with the many graphic layout and illustration programs that were available to me. Eventually my computer work led to working with the more elaborate CAD based programs. To this day, I have a great degree of acumen for learning new programs.

Dominator

This strategy board game was developed and produced in 1994. It had over three years of marketing and game testing behind it. The writing, illustrations, and graphic layouts were all of my own creation. The production and coordination of promotional events was handled by Darhoff Inc.

FTD Distributor Packaging

This is a package design I developed for FTD while serving my internship at D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles. The project presented to me was to create a new shipping box for FTD promotional materials. There were problems with the previous package design was that it was a flat pizza-style box that was easily crushed in shipping and as a result damaged the items inside. Additionally, the flat box was easily set aside or had things stacked on it resulting in the promotional items being forgotten and unused. My solution also had to be cost effective and allow for postal shipping regulations.

As a result I designed a triangular box that was crush resistant and because it was triangular it could not have items stacked on it or easily be lost. Once received the box held the posters in a triangular tube and the box itself could be used as an upright filing system. In the end, the cost was comparable to the old pizza-style box.

In addition, I was given the task of creating the layout of the package graphics. The overal design was so successful that it took the "Best of Show" award at the BPAA (Business Planners Ad Association) Award in 1989. Unfortunately, I had completed my internship by then and so I didn't get any credit.
