Hi, I'm Bill Bohannan ...
This LIST is for a cause. If you believe the JAZZ WORLD could use some
new songs, then you are welcome to help.
There is a major gap in quality songs written after 1970 (you know, with words written at the same time), that can be associated with Jazz. Cy Green & Jim Miller can help plug that up a little if ever given a chance. They are truly gifted writers, and their music is long over-due.
THEY ARE NOT IN A BAND - THEY JUST WRITE!
I really like their NEW Clifford Brown tune and look forward to the Vocal -

No, I don't care much for the jazz scene today.
Perhaps age and just hearing too much too long
has done it. Not much new stuff excites me these
days. I hear a lot of sound- a-like, slick, clean stuff
with no heart or soul. Then again, maybe I just
have not heard the right stuff. I'll keep listening.
Give me those good ol' good ones that deserve repeated listenings!
GETZ, GILLESPIE, STITT
Guitarist GRANT GREEN (1931-1979)
Trumpeter LEE MORGAN (1938-1972)
Baritone SERGE CHALOFF (1923-1957)
SEVERAL YOUNG PEOPLE have come to attention recently. One is steeped
in the FRANK SINATRA tradition. Another is a Singer/Writer living in a
time warp. The 3rd is an exciting in the moment improviser.
ESPERANZA SPAULDING Singer/Bassist Portland, OR
and the recent arrival of GREGORY PORTER
This website wishes these young talents success and popularity.
No, we are not fossils. We have listened to and enjoyed the modernism of STAN KENTON & the extremities of SUN RA. This is not a slam on all records made after 1990. Of course, there is still good Jazz today ... we just stick with what we know best.
