Gracias.

David Crooks (aka Barker), born in Jamaica 1948. As a youth he formed various street groups and in the late 60´s, together with musician and producer Glen Brown, he recorded for Harry J. and Coxone Dodd. Later, he joined the legendary vocal trio “The Techniques”, as lead singer, in place of the late Slim Smith. After working with Lee Perry, he changed his name in 1969 to Dave Barker, recording “Prisoner of love” and “Shocks Almighty”. Lee Perry encouraged him, in the Dj style, to get involved in a project with veteran keyboard player Ansell Collins (Dave and Ansell Collins) and producer Winston Riley. Together, they had two pop charts hits
'Double Barrell' and 'Monkey Spanner'. 'Double Barrel' was a number one in the British pop charts (1971).
They were both in Dave's 'Yankee' James Brown style. Even then people enjoyed hearing an American style voice on a Reggae rhythm. Rapping goes back a lot further than most people would like to think, just like deejaying.
Dave Barker has also recorded several songs, with the Wailers as backing vocalists. His american musical influences are artists like James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, Temptations, ...and his Dj style like Benson, Douglas Jocko Henderson,...
Now, together with Albeto Tarín, Dave Barker shows a new face singing Jazz classics in a Reggae Style. Dave´s versatility, the “Jamaican James Brown” allows him to sing in a range of vocal styles that goes from Nat King Cole, Jackie Wilson, Barry White, Wilson Pikett, ...to James Brown, Marvin Gaye,...and of course original homegrown jamaican sounds and styles of singing.
“Someone to watch over me”, “East of the Sun”, “You´d be so nice”, “Old Devil Moon”,...Dave Barker has become the “Jamaican Sinatra”, together with spanish guitar player Alberto Tarín Jazzin Reggae.
The design of the performance invites one to enjoy various musical sensibilities around Jazz and Reggae, travelling from Ska and Rocksteady, to the new Jazzin Reggae.
The human and artistical relationship between Alberto Tarín and Dave Barker, started November 2005, during the shooting of the Documentary “Living Reggae” (Freeman Promotion 2006). Their working relationship and has grown since then, with several studio and live collaborations. This has cultivated strong vibes and a solid connection between both artists resulting in several new songs. Using an “original” treatement of the Jazz Classics, they have managed to accomplish many stimulating live performances with plenty of harmony between all musicians on stage.
Dave Barker and Alberto Tarin Jazzin Reggae offer a new style of performance by fusing their vast experience and varied approach to music and culture.
