What we plead for is discriminating labor,, not mere slavery or unthinking play.. It is productive work beyond mere financial returns that we believe will carry the final benefit for the human race."

Welcome to the website dedicated to the renovation of my old Craftsman home.  I bought a modified 1926 Sears Montrose about two years ago, and am in the process of resoring it to its original condition.  According to the book Small Houses of the Twenties, Sears customized homes, and in the case of my home, added a breakfast nook and sleeper porch with a flipped floor plan.  My home is also without the sun room due to the size of my lot.  Further, the home was built with an additional front porch with a coal room underneath the porch.  Long research went into finding out if my home was, in fact, a Sears home.  Based on the floor plan, numbered joists, exact dimensions of the rooms, original hardware in the home, the history of Sears Homes sales in my community and an assessment of an appraiser, I was able to determine that the home was a Sears home.  The house was built in 1926 and has all of it's original doors, walls, harware, and most of the original lighting.  In addition, it has a hot water heating system which was an option of Sears homes at the time.
