Introduction

JAMsj Youth is a student managed organization led by the Chief of Staff and the Youth Representative. The Youth Representative is a JAMsj Board Member with full privileges and voting rights. With the guidance of a JAMsj Consultant, the Chief of Staff and Youth Representative work with JAMsj Youth staff to provide services and benefits to JAMsj Youth members.

Our History

In August of 2006, the Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj) created its first internship program, attracting interest from across Santa Clara County. Within the first five months of its launch, JAMsj accepted over 20 high school and college interns into the program. In March of 2007, due to the effectiveness, tenacity, and invaluable contributions of the interns, the JAMsj Board of Directors approved the formation of a JAMsj Youth affiliate, JAMsj Youth.

Why Support Us?

We try to do our best to bring the culture, history, and heritage back to the youth of the South Bay by using attractions, events, performances, and projects. We would like to remind everyone that there are many cultures that make up America and remind the public of how unique each and every culture and individual is. "Why is this important?" you may ask. Well, without the knowledge of culture, culture virtually will disappear as each generation passes, and without someone to carry the knowledge, culture, as we know it today, will soon fade away. We fight to preserve cultures, focusing on the Japanese American culture of the South Bay (of San Francisco Bay Area). We would like to remind you that just because we are called JAMsj "Youth," it doesn't mean that we don't care about our elders, as that is exactly who we are trying to honor.
