Northern Soul Forever

The Greatest Records Ever Made Period

What always affected me as a music fan and researcher is how come records this great have been ignored. If it wasn't for all of the great Northern Soul Fan Clubs and Collectors would we still have these marvelous records? The music period between 1963 and 1971 was just a music explosion. In my opinion everything was so great there wasn't room for everything. Like Rose Garden in that song Next Plane To London sung".The most important part than any record on the chart". The most  important part is that these records are too great to be ignored. And like my Soulie friend told a youngster".My friend, when you're old, these records will still be young"  That about sums it up.

Daydreaming- 1971

To be lost in a picture. This is sure a great one to be lost in.Life can be good again. With Aretha singing Daydreaming.Northern Soul gives us hope that things will be great again.Where this picture and our lives will be reality.

Always a favorite picture of mine. It just reminds me of being in the park having my lovely wife making dinner back at the apartment and hearing Aretha Franklin singing Daydreaming. This song is just a dream.Again this symbolizes great Northern Soul.Giving us hope that some day things will be .great.A record like this just creates it's own world. The world of Daydreaming is the world  we all want to have. Most definitely .

The Wonders Of Northern Soul

The period from 1963 to 1971 was definitely a music explosion. The par was way up and everyone wanted to have great records. To compete for airplay the records had to be the best possible. This is one of the reasons there were so many great records. If the competition was up,they had to be up.So,fortunately,we are left with thousands of great records.Great records that are still in basements and attics all over the world. Also,a lot of great material released and unreleased is still in the vaults of the huge music conglomerates that bought out all of the small labels. There is plenty of material to go through.

Keeping The Soul Going

As time goes on we have to keep these great records alive.Although they're just digital tracks.I still refer to them as records as in the word re-cord,like to record with a tape recorder. That's how the word originated. What I always wondered was why would kids listen to lousy songs?  They should want to listen to songs because they like them not because they want their friends to like them. In terms of the history of the world.40 years is nothing but a blink of an eye in terms of the earth, but yet the kids want to  cynically call these classics old.To me they're as fresh and brand new as anything on hit-radio today. They're  just plain and down-right better. And definitely, the greatest ain't the latest. We can still make great records like this.Let's get some writers and musicians and go into our recording studio or our own home-studio and get to it. All we need is some funky guitar,laid-back horns and great singers.Let's keep the soul alive. We can make brand new records right now !

Gone With The Wind Is My Love- 1966

 , .

This is one of my all-time favorites.Gone With The Wind Is My Love. That's the story of life.Everything is just Gone With The Wind, the song is just The Twilight Zone.A minute and fifty nine seconds of magic after it's done everyone says,What the heck was that? This symbolizes the greatness of Northern Soul.Haunting, mesmerizing, the artists have just disappeared,They're Gone With The Wind. What a record!

I'll Do Anything-1965

Always  a favorite picture of mine. Imagine playing these great songs in the back bedroom of this house in Los Angeles in 1965.So much soul.Northern Soul gives all of us hope. That even though we are poor we are still as good as anyone no matter how much money they have.Imagine hearing this Doris Troy gem come from a teenagers  bedroom.in 1965.So much soul, indeed.

Mr.Loveman-1965

Another all-time favorite. This just gets to me.The obscurity of 1965.All of those records being released every week. And here comes another one.Mr.Loveman. What a song? This symbolizes the greatness of Northern Soul.Obscure but great records. The writers and musicians poured their hearts into making these and for the songs to go nowhere. We have to make their work go somewhere. This song is just too great.Mr.Love Man,where's my girl? Love It.

Please Let's Keep These Great Northern Soul Records Alive. All They Have To Be Is Played.Play Em And Turn It Up.

Forget About Me- 1963

Just brilliant Northern Detroit Soul.1963 the greatest music in the world was just starting to be made.To feel the soul and groove that something great was happening.Although at the time, music was just considered disposable like napkins.I guess everyone took the records for granted. They were great because everyone wanted to succeed. But yet as time passed on.1978,1982,1986.We all realized.Hey,these songs are not being replaced by bigger and better songs.Like technology usually does.Computers easily replace ancient filing cabinets. But all of the technology can not replace records this great. The technology has digitally preserved the originals. But the original records were cut on the original master tapes. That thankfully were saved by most record companies.Thank goodness not everyone thought the music was disposable. You can get a 128 track state of the art studio and still can't come close to a song like Forget About Me.They have even tried to imitate exactly what was done and they still can't come close.Thankfully with technology these songs will last forever. As long as we stay educated so we will have kids that know how technology works.Northern Soul Forever.Yes,indeed.
