FLATWOODS AND LIGHTERKNOTS

Good Literature Opens Your World

A few of my poems

"Lasting Love"

When I was just a little child

Played with toys and oh so wild

Thoughts of girls made me bolder

What a joy just to hold her

Traveled the world tasting their spice

Girls far and near were oh so nice

Gave them thought no more than twice

Girl of my dreams did finally appear

Such beauty, grace, smart, and dear

Stole my heart and made me wonder

Is this the girl to stop my wander?

Yes she was and I’m at peace

My love for her will never cease

"Church Without Walls"

As I wander through this world

I see life’s wonders unfurl

Nights with stars and moon aglow

Sunrises and sunsets come and go

My cathedral is the forests so tall

The green meadows my confessional

Wide pastures are the aisles I tread

To the alter of Nature I bow my head

Pledging my life to keep her pure

The church of Nature is where I endure

This is the church for one and all

The church that has no walls

"Parting Love"

Together we lay on the sands of a lonely shore

Listening to the soft music of lapping waves

The sight of our nakedness urges us to explore

If only this tender moment could last for days

Smelling the fragrance of your wind blown hair

My lips begin tasting the sweetness of you

My fingers gently touching your skin so fair

Our souls come together doing what lovers do

Feeling the heat of love that burns within us so

We spend just one more night side by side

For tomorrow we part and never to know

When or if ever we will again take this ride

A war now beckons from some distant land

And forbids our bodies to feel that lover’s glow

Those precious moments we knew so grand

When two souls came together as only lovers know

"The Reincarnated"

We have been in many places

And visited many times

Born to wander the ages

We return with the signs

With each life renewed

We light the torch of hope

In war, famine, and feast

Searching for men of will

"To First Love and Eternal Romance"

Here’s to that knowing glance

When two souls at first sight meet

A smile, a nod, and then a dance

Speaking softly in dim lit streets

Two souls begin to merge together

Then words of promises to keep

Now it’s love forever and ever

The bounty of life they now reap.

"Boats and life"

Boats in harbor safe and sound

No seas their bows to ever pound

Tis not the reason boats are made

To sit and rot and sails to fade

Their masts must kiss the salty air

With men aboard of ruffled hair

Sleek planks pushing blue seas

And brave men their souls set free

Lock me not in harbor’s cold bed

On decks of boats I yearn to tread

Riding the seas with harbors astern

To places where cowards fear to yearn

Like sailors and boats on the brine

The minds of men must in time

Break the chains of boring life

And seek out adventure’s spice

"Sunset"

Sculptured rays of evening sun
Caresses the marshes as day is done
The river glistens with sparkling light
This day now says goodnight
Another day is promised to me
Another sunset I will see
From this place I'll never switch
For I'm one lucky son of a b----

"Jealousy"

From the pits of miserable souls
Comes the bane of miseries untold
Bubbling, seething, festering sore
Smothering fools with hate and more
Pillaging and ravishing the vane
I am Lord of fools; and Jealousy my name

"Unrequited Love"

Like the thunder my heart did pound

At the sight of her beauty profound

If only she would return my care

But nothing said makes her aware

My love for her known only to me

Forever in me but never from she

Until my death this love I hold

Buried in heart body and soul

No words from me will ever be told

Not off her of gentle eyes or hair of gold

Unrequited love is now my cold bride

Forever I sleep with this woman of pride

In her empty arms my loneliness cries

And I wonder why, oh why, oh why

"To Our Nation’s Finest"

Ever wish for days of yore

When men were sure and ladies wore

Frilly things and proudly bore

Virtuous children and patience galore

Upon their souls they carried more

Love and faith till hearts did sore

With home fires burning men could rest

Guarding liberty with a nation’s best

"Snakes"

Here be words fer all to know

Why it tis dat snakes slither so

No legs him had since days o’ yore

Nary any wings wid which to soar

Ever to crawl on him belly he must

Fo’ givin’ dat woman de sin o’ lust

Whilst scornin’ him like de devil foe

Still we runs fo’ fear o’ losin’ de toe

"The Fishing Hole"

Oh deep dark watery hole

What might your bottom hold

Did evil men do their best

To hide there a treasure chest

Or are you just a fisher’s dream

Yielding up only big fat bream

“To a Willow Tree”

Emerald leaves on evening sky

Boughs swaying reaching to fly

Such a sight never seen by thee

My willow dances only for me

"To a Horse"

Swiftly gallops the goddess of hunt

Riding the wind with eyes a front

Lunging forward to meet the moist air

Morning mist cooling our hair

Hoofs below pound rhythms so sure

If only this moment could ever endure

Upon the wings of Diana I flew

Bonded as one to a horse I once knew

"To an Old Bridge"

Under bridge slowly creep

Dark waters running deep

Shielded from light of day

Fish down under never stray

Long it held vehicles in flight

Planks roaring and trusses tight

Gone with time plank and pier

But bridge holds memories dear

"Christmas"

Wondrous days of Christmas past

Children wish them to ever last

Simple things they wanted then

When dreams were real for children

Tucked in bed the night before

Little minds see gifts galore

Perhaps a doll or spinning top

Things made in Santa’s shop

Shade of night please quickly rise

And reveal my wondrous prize

Santa Claus must surely be real

But mom and dad will never reveal
