Jake Runestad

Biography
Jake Runestad (b.1986), composer/conductor from Rockford, IL, is currently studying music education
at Winona State University in Winona, MN. He is a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble (alto saxophone),
Jazz Ensemble (lead alto), Concert Choir, and conducts the ACDA Laboratory Chorus which he founded in
the spring of 2006.
In the past two years, seven of Jake's compositions have been awarded first place in the Minnesota Music
Educators Association Composition Contest. He was also named Collegiate Composer of the Year for the state
of Minnesota in 2006 and 2007.
Jake has studied composition with acclaimed composers Libby Larsen (www.libbylarsen.com) and
Donald Fraser and upon graduation in 2009, Jake plans to attend graduate school to study composition and
conducting and ultimately teach at the college level.
Jake is a member of ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, MENC, ACDA, and NEA.
