White Whale Records [the real one & not the new upstart in Canada] was an indie label out of California that lasted for 5 or 6 years. It appears that no one else has taken the time to compile a complete listing (on the web), though you can't blame them. Many of the artists were and are mostly unknown; the highly successful group 'The Turtles' being the obvious exception.
This page is a work in progress - updates may be intermitant. All information contained herein is only as accurate as the sources referenced. Multiple sources are always preferred but often do not exist. If [when] you can offer a correction or an addition, please contact me - dainecity at MSN.com - and use the words 'White Whale' in the subject field. Thanks!
Image scans found here are the best available to me. They are all borrowed from other websites; with permission when possible. Reading the label on a vinyl record may be the only way to confirm it's existence. It would be nice to continue to use them.
This compilation is not about profit, however, if the use of an image causes you even one sleepless night - dainecity at hotmail.com - please call me. Credits &/or links to originators are included whenever possible.
I have yet to see a US single with sides designated as A or B, though the Canadian discs on Quality Records do. Most of the list below pairs up the sides randomly.
'unknown' means unknown to me.
For the album discography check out this great site.
Contributors include:
Chris (NJ) for offering his expertise & some great links. If you dig Garage Rock - especially obscure & impossible to find tracks - you need to check out his site: http://www.garagehangover.com/
Steve E. (California) who owns a few of the discs listed below - thanks!
Helge M. (Germany) a lover of 60s music, who keeps sending me label scans & info to fill in the blanks - thanks!
Gary M. (Wisconsin) who happened by and had some info I needed. *see #325 below.

Naturally I've become interested in what the songs actually sound like. But the label has been difficult to find so far [Turtles lp's being the exception]. I did pick up my first single by The Clique, with that wonderful & original version of SUPERMAN as the b-side!. However, there are copies of tracks by numerous White Whale artists to be found in thrift stores. I am a collector of those old K-Tel-type compilations on vinyl and I have aquired a few [usually for $1] containing the following tracks:
'24 Solid Hits by 24 Original Stars', Syndicate SH 900, [Canada]
#244 happy together by The Turtles
#331 Beautiful People by Kenny O'Dell
#275 You got the love by Professor Morrison's Lollipop
'24 Power Hits', Syndicate SH 910 [Canada]
#276 Elenore by The Turtles
#287 lo mucho que te quiero by Rene & Rene
#295 Cruel War by Sugar and Spice
'24 Dynamic Hits by 24 Original Stars', Syndicate SH 920 [Canada]
#323 Sugar on Sunday by the Clique
#292 you showed me by The Turtles
*and that's just 3 examples!!

There are also 3 cd compilations:'In The Garden - The White Whale Story', 'Out of Nowhere - The White Whale Story, Volume 2', and Happy Together: The Very Best of White Whale Records.
