Here are some useless facts about the programme and its cast:

  • The final scene where Kurt and Alastian stood face to face was actually two separate shots joined together in post production.
  • Lucy's Party contained over 200 extras the largest number used at any one time in the show.
  • The episode of Natasha's death scored over 2.1 million viewers the highest rating since the first episode.
  • When filming the episode of Rob and Dermot's car crash the windscreen of the car came out and hit the stuntman on the head. He had to have eight stitches.
  • The following episode attracted the highest rating for the show since the first episode.
  • Ollie's baseball that was placed on his coffin as it was lowered into the grave, at the end of the scene the director jumped into the grave and picked it up as a memento. It was finally given a watery grave after the director lost it when he was windsurfing.
  • Baby Holly was born after just seven months but the producers couldn't resist having the baby born on Christmas Day.
  • The writer Lucy Gough has been nicknamed the Funeral Queen because she has written more funeral scene's than any other Hollyoaks writer.
  • Series Producer Jo Hallows directed the scenes surrounding Dawn's death and she admits that they almost lost Lisa Williamson (Dawn) and Will Mellor (Jambo) after their boat headed very close to the weir.
  • David McAllister the actor who played Mandy's Dad was so convincing that he received hate mail.
  • Hollyoaks went four nights a week for the water tank special securing the highest ratings for 1999, with a record 2.6 million wanting to discover the fate of Ruth, Lucy, Lewis and Tony.
  • The cast had so much fun Filming in the water tank that they wanted to keep it. The whole crew went diving with the experts after work.
  • Over 3 million viewers tuned in at 10:55pm to watch "Breaking Boundaries".
  • Nick Pickard has an impressive CV before joining Hollyoaks, he was in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the sun and played the lead in the film The Land of Faraway.
  • Jambo's Cow Margaret was stolen by students whilst on location in Anglesey and they held her for ransom.
  • Hollyoaks has been a hit around the world and has been shown in 15 different countries, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, New Zealand, Thailand, Denmark, Indonesia, Romania, Iceland, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Spain, Israel and Turkey.
