Welcome to the home of Ivy House Cavies.

My name is David and I am based in Southport,a victorian sea-side town on the Northwest coast of England.

I have been involved in keeping cavies for 30 years now and apart from my first two pet smoothhaired they have always been longhaired cavies.My bloodline must now be one of the oldest in England and it has always been my aim to continue to produce the best coated and typed cavies possible so that i hope my cavies are a credit to their respective breeds.

I started with Shelties and later Peruvians from the well known breeders Pat Woods and Vera Adkins bloodlines and my stock can still be traced back to these.Later ,with the arrival of Coronets i started with a line from Claire White of Masquerade Stud and these  mixed well with my Adkins line Shelties.

With college and my new working life i had a break from the cavy show scene for about 15 years but always kept my same bloodlines going and tried to selectively breed and improve on what i already had.Returning to shows i brought in some fresh blood in the form of Chris Fort's Shelties and some Peruvians from Marilyn Copsey and Sheila & Gordon Bond.

I now also have Alpaccas and have bred these into a separate line of my peruvians in an effort to produce my own line in this breed.This has been a work in progress for approximately the last 7 years and i have been proud of a lot of  the resulting offspring,successively improving in frontal and chops and also producing more and more surprising and interesting colours along the way!

The results of my breeding have set up, and been used to add to many studs of longhairs throughout England. Some very well known breeders have been to me for outcross stock over the years so i must be getting something right!

My stock has also travelled as far afield as Holland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and New Zealand.

I dont get to show so often due to my work commitments but i try to visit the odd show so say hi if you see me and feel free to ask anything....i'll always try to help.
