Race #1 of 36 of the 2010 Season - Daytona International Speedway

Next Race: Sunday -February 14th,2010 -1:30 pm (Eastern)

12/30/2009 -  Travis Kvapil announced that he has a full time Cup ride for 2010.Kvapil will be in one of the Front Row Motorsports [#34, #37] cars in 2010. Kvapil drove a few races in the #37 Dodge/Chevy late in the 2009 season and John Andretti was in the #34 Chevy for 34 of the 36 races.

12/24/2009 - NASCAR has made some changes to the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. The new criteria are based upon the following qualifications, plus a driver must have competed in the Sprint Cup Series within the past two seasons,Drivers who qualified for the 2009 Chase for the Sprint Cup;Past Cup series champions; Past Budweiser Shootout winners;Past Daytona 500 and Coke Zero 400 champions; The reigning rookie of the year.In the past, spots in the field had been reserved for the previous season's pole winners, plus former winners of the event who were not otherwise already qualified.

12/21/2009 - Jimmie Johnson was named The Driver of the Decade for the Srint Cup Series. He has 47 wins,4 championships, and has made the Chase every year for the past 6 years in this series.

12/19/2009 - Mike Bliss will pilot the No. 36 Wave Energy Drink race car for Tommy Baldwin Racing in 2010.

12/5/2009 - The Hendrick Motorsports Team has four (4) of the best teams in the CUP Series. One of these (if not 2 or 3 ) teams will be in the top spot(s) again in 2010.This could be the case for the next several years. These teams have everything that they need to beat all of the other teams week after week. With some of the best sponsors, drivers, cars, teams.and engineering this team will be hard to beat for many years to come.

12/4/2009 - #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. was awarded his seventh consecutive NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver award  in Las Vegas, announced at the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards event at The Venetian Las Vegas Hotel Casino.

11/29/2009 - Can Jimmie Johnson win five championships in a row? Sure he can. Jeff Hammond is one of many that thinks it is a distinct possibility. There's no reason not to think it can happen. To beat Jimmie Johnson you are going to have to have the same type of equipment, same type of effort and the same type of talent. There are only a few teams that have what it takes to prevent Jimmie from repeating this performance several more times.Jimmies teammates are his biggest threat at this time. Right now, Jeff Hammond thinks it will take a Hendrick car to beat a Hendrick car. So he looks to Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart or Ryan Newman to be Jimmie's most immediate threat. These guys are going to have to match that team stride for stride. Consistency, talent, and equipment are the factors that keep JGR,RFR,PR,RCR,RBR,RPM and others from being a threat in 2009 and possibly 2010.Darrell Waltrip said, We are looking at the greatest driver and team in NASCAR. That's not taking anything away from Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr. or any of our other champions, but what Jimmie has been able to accomplish in such a relatively short career is nothing short of mind boggling. Some folks want to say its one element or the other that is the main cause of the success of that No. 48 car. Jeff Hammondsaid for him, it's all equal parts. They have a great race car driver, combined with a great crew chief, combined with a great owner that gives them all the assets they need to be successful. Take any one of those components away and this team will not be as effective as it is right now. Take any part of this team away and it will just be another good (not great) team.

11/24/2009 - Warner Music Nashville (WMN) and BAM Racing (BAM) announced that Larry the Cable Guy will be the featured artist on the #49 BAM Toyota for the 2010 Daytona 500. BAM Racing has plans to run the entire season in 2010.

11/24/2009 - David Gilliland could possibly return in a fourth Joe Gibbs Racing car if it runs select races next year, team President J.D. Gibbs said. Gilliland also has driven for #09 Phoenix Racing this year and is a candidate for that ride, one of the few open rides with sponsorship for next season.

11/24/2009 - Kellogg's will sponsor Carl Edwards next season. Kellogg's will be the primary sponsor for two races on the #99 Ford and an associate sponsor for the remainder of the season.

11/24/2009 - Donnie Wingo has been named crew chief of the #6 UPS team with driver David Ragan.

11/22/2009 - # 20 -Joey Lagano is the 2009 Raybestoes Rookie of the Year.

11/22/2009 - Jimmie Johnson wins his 4th NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship in a row, the first driver ever to so in NASCAR's 61 year history.

11/22/2009 - #11-Denny Hamlin won the FORD 400 Sprint Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway for his 4th win of the season and 8th of his career.

  •  **# 12 - The 2009 Rookie of the Year is Justin Allgaier.

  •  Brad Keselowski was chosen by the fans in the NASCAR Nationwide as the Most Popular Driver.

  • Kevin Harvick was named the Driver of the Decade for the Nationwide Series. He was the ROTY in 2000, has 34 wins and two championships in this series.

  •  Scene Daily posted a report that NNS Baker Curb Racing team co-owner Gary Baker mentioned his team is working on a deal with a Sprint Cup driver for the 2010 season. Yahoo Sports and NASCAR Insiders are now saying the Cup driver is Greg Biffle, and he may run a limited NNS schedule next year.

  • NASCAR announced the addition of Road America, a 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course near Elkhart Lake, Wis., to the 2010 schedule. Slated for June 19, the Road America race takes the place of the event at the Milwaukee Mile, after the state of Wisconsin was unable to find a satisfactory promoter for the race.

  • Discount Tire has reached a multi-year agreement with Penske Racing and driver Brad Keselowski beginning with the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series. Discount Tire will serve as the primary sponsor for at least 26 races in next season's Nationwide Series on the Penske Racing No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger driven by Brad Keselowski.

  • Cup drivers Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick will try to run both series full time in 2010.Kyle Busch is talking about running the entire Nationwide schedule also.

  • Officials of Rusty Wallace Racing and Joe Gibbs Racing announced the formation of a technical alliance between the two teams, under which JGR will provide RWR with technical support for the development of NASCAR Nationwide Series Toyota Camry race cars. For the 2010 season, the team will campaign factory-backed Toyota Camrys, with engines provided by Triad Racing Development.

  • It's official Danica Patrick will drive the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet in a partial Nationwide schedule next season, plus one ARCA race. The Go Daddy Girl will be racing as a member of the JR Motorsports (JRM) team owned by Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Rick Hendrick, Kelley Earnhardt and Tony Eury, Jr. through 2011.

  • JGR has two of the top teams in the sport at this time. Look for the #18 and #20 JGR Toyotas to dominate this series for the next several years. They currently have the best cars, sponsors, drivers, teams, and engineering in this series. This appears to be a factor for the next several years. The JGR teams are in this series what HMS is in the Cup Series. There aren't any other teams that can beat them week in and out at this time.
  • *Good news. Mike will drive the full CUP schedule in the #36 TBM car in 2010.What about Mike Bliss  in 2010? This driver finished 5th in the points in 2009 without a full time ride.Does this tell you how good he is. He could win a championship in one of the top rides in this series. Why doesn't someone pick him up???JR Motorsports ( # 5 & # 88 ) should field a full time car for him if they want to win a championship.

  •  Parker Kligerman's 2010 plans are trying to figure out how to start it simple, calling to mind the 'ABC [ARCA, Busch and Cup]' schedule executed by Penske graduate Ryan Newman. "We'd like to run [Kligerman] in a limited schedule of at least 10 Nationwide races next year, [including] the new car races. In addition to that we may be in a position to run him in a few Truck races. "There may be opportunities for [Kligerman] in the non-companion races, where somebody's got to practice and qualify the 22 car for Brad," Cindric said. "So our idea for next year is to run him in as many quality races as possible. We want to make sure he's in something that's competitive."

  • The KHI plan for next season is to run two full-time Trucks and one full-time Nationwide car with the possibility of a second car in select races. Hornaday will drive one truck while Harvick will drive the other along with Cup drivers in the companion events to Cup races and another driver for non-companion events, Harvick said. Harvick also plans to split time with Hornaday (four or five races), Ryan Newman and possibly others in the Nationwide car.

  •  ML Motorsports will buy their engines for the 2010 Nationwide Series season from Earnhardt-Childress Racing. ML Motorsports will also update its fleet of #70 Chevys, which will again be driven by Greenwood native Shelby Howard. The team will purchase new cars from Kevin Harvick Incorporated, as well as share information and setups with the KHI teams.

  •  Rusty Wallace Racing owner Rusty Wallace said that he may have to cut back to one NASCAR Nationwide Series team car next season if more sponsorship isn't found for his #62 entry driven by Brendan Gaughan. Wallace said he has sold about 40 percent of the races for 2010, but that might not amount to enough to keep Gaughan in the car full time. Wallace said Michael Gaughan, Brendan's father, subsidizes sponsorship on the #62, but that he wants the full season. Wallace said he would run the #62 car part time in 2010, but it appears Gaughan would not be the driver under that scenario. Wallace's team has full sponsorship for the #66 entry and driver Steve Wallace, and the team announced this week it would switch to Toyota from Chevrolet next season. Wallace said Triad Racing Development would build the team's engines next year. The move to Toyota could be a precursor of a move to Cup in 2011 or beyond, as Wallace has wanted to take his team a step up

  • Nationwide Series driver Danny Efland announced a new partnership with M&W Motorsports to drive selected 2010 events in the NASCAR Nationwide series.

  • Mike Wallace and J-D Motorsports have agreed they will compete together for a championship title run in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series.

  • #28-Kenny Wallace will return to run the full 2010 Nationwide Series season in the #28 of Jay Robinson Racing.

  •  Diamond Ridge Motorsports and Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) announced the formation of Diamond-Waltrip Racing which will enter a full-time NASCAR Nationwide Series team starting in 2010 for driver Trevor Bayne. Diamond-Waltrip Racing, co-owned by majority owners, Gary and Blake Bechtel and owners, Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman, has purchased the assets and associated car owner benefits of Michael Waltrip Racing's #99 Toyota Camry team. Diamond-Waltrip Racing will field its team for Bayne out of Michael Waltrip Racing's Cornelius, N.C., facility and will continue to be managed by MWR personnel.

This operation will dominate this series as HMS does the Cup Series.Kyle will have some of the best people, drivers, equipment, sponsors, and engineering in this series under his roof. This team will put everyone else to shame. Most of the sponsors are trying to get into the Cup Series but Kyle will not have a problem picking up sponsors. With Roush getting out of this series and KHI having problems picking up good sponsors Kyle will run away with this series. There are rumors that Johnny Benson will run a third Toyota Tundra for KBM in 2010.Lee White welcomes KBM to the Toyota Camp. Kyle said that he was going to put in place a operation that was capable of winning races and championships.

12/4/2009     Richard Childress Racing will run two trucks in 2010. The #3 RCR Chevy truck, driven by Austin Dillon [grandson of Richard Childress], will be returning to the series in 2010. Richard Childress Racing has ordered six brand new trucks. Tim George Jr. was named as driver of the second truck team for RCR. [George's most recent experience as been in the ARCA RE/MAX Series where he drove for Eddie Sharp Racing. George finished 11th in the driver point standings

12/4/2009 - Rick Ren told Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody that he will serve as Director of Operations for the new Kyle Busch Motorsports beginning in 2010, overseeing a three-truck NASCAR Camping World Truck Series operation. "It was a multi-fold decision," said Ren. "I've been on the road a lot these last few years, doing lots of driving back and forth to work. This new package works well for my wife and I. I can be closer to home, spend more time with her and still oversee the structure of this new company." Ren said the team will hold a press conference next Friday to lay out more of its plans. He said the team's new facility is not yet completed, but promised that it will be state of the art. He confirmed that Busch will purchase the Xpress Motorsports building, its inventory of trucks and all its contents, giving KBM one complete team almost immediately. Trucks are currently being built to field up to two more entries, if funding comes through. Ren said he and Busch "have had a really good friendship for the last three years. We have talked at the tracks and hung out a little bit away from work. We have a mutual admiration for each other, and one thing kind of led to another. I'm trying to help a young man who has a natural ability to drive racecars to build and own his own race team. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity."(Sirius Speedway PR)(12-4-2009)

11/24/2009 - Kyle Busch will have a team, and it will definitely be at least two trucks. Taylor Malsam will join Kyle Busch in a 2nd truck -- Kyle will run the companion weeks and there will be another driver in the #51 for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

11/24/2009 - Wyler Racing has shut down and laid off the majority of its employees -- also hearing that hopefully this is just a temporary layoff.

11/24/2009 -  Ricky Carmichael was chosen by the fans in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series as the Most Popular Driver for the 2009 season.

11/22/2009 - # 13-Johnny Sauter clinched the 2009 Raybestos Rookie of the Year title.

11/20/2009 -  Here are the amendments to the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series rule book:

    • Double-file restarts “shootout style” will be implemented to further enhance the close competition and offer additional excitement for the fans. The format will be the same as in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series.
    • The addition of fuel and changing of tire(s) will be permitted on the same pit stop.
    • During any pit stop, under yellow- or green-flag conditions, six pit crew members will be permitted in the truck servicing area. This is an increase from five pit crew members in 2009.
    • A new self-venting fuel-can will be introduced as an option for teams to use in addition to the conventional fuel can.
    • The tire lease program will remain the same with these new options available to teams.
      • A team will run no more than two consecutive races without using an engine previously sealed by NASCAR officials. This excludes events at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. The current rule allows teams to run no more than three consecutive races without using a sealed engine.
      • A SPEC engine will be introduced as an option for teams at tracks less than 1.25-miles in length. This will help to reduce costs for current teams and encourage participation from the regional series.
      • NASCAR has also made a schedule change for the 2010 schedule. Easter weekend becomes a double-header in Nashville. The scheduled Memphis NCWTS race will be run at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 2, preceding the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday night. Meanwhile, Gateway International Raceway will have a second NASCAR Nationwide Series race which will be held October 23.
      • Tires will continue to be transferred between events with the same D-codes as recommended by Goodyear. The transfer of tires between the different national series at combo events with the same D-codes will be permitted. At track, Goodyear will provide surplus tires. Goodyear will notify teams weeks in advance of availability.
