Those who speak and bear the 'light in the eyes' call themselves 'The Named'. It is a title commonly earned through birth alone.
Their intellect has granted them many talents, including the comprehension necessary to herd - as opposed to hunt. This removes many of the risks and uncertainties of a stalker's lifestyle - but has made them poor hunters.
They also possess the deadly power of the Red Tongue, a Clan word for Fire. Many a foe has died beneath the blaze of a herder's torch, or fled in fear of the bright, hated beast.

Outsiders seeking to join the Clan must first attain the people's approval. However, the Clan Leader may deny their wishes and choose the opposite of their verdict. Therefore, all Clanless ones hoping to sustain place with the Named must share conference with the Clan Leader, and gain his/her stated acceptance.

History:
Ratha was still chasing Dapplebacks and Threehorns when a devastating storm harrowed Clan Ground. Lightning struck, igniting a ruinous blaze that devoured the Named’s cherished sanctuary. In the aftermath of chaos, only Ratha was curious enough to experiment with the dreaded Red Tongue, and soon found that it could be used to serve the Clan as a source of warmth, light, and weaponry. The former Leader, Meoran, perceived Ratha’s knowledge as a challenge and threat. For her discovery she was stripped of all that was familiar, and cast into the unknown by her own People. The claws and teeth of the Named became hostile and she fled. In her attempt to escape, the Red Tongue was destroyed. Ratha was left with nothing.
During her exile, she was discovered by a lone Un-Named male she came to call Bonechewer. He rescued her from certain starvation and tutored her in the ways of Hunting. While beneath the law of Meoran’s banishment, She received him as her companion and granted him four cubs. Overwhelmed by the belief that her infants would be Empty Eyed, Ratha lashed out against her family, and fled the comfort of her home.
Reluctantly, her paws returned her to Clan Ground. Inevitably, the seasons changed, bringing once again the fierce summer storms - and with them, the Red Tongue. Ratha seized her ‘creature’ and with the help of two very close friends, defied Meoran’s rule for the last time. His reign was ended, and Ratha was deemed Leader of the Clan.
Peace did not last long. She placed ill confidence in an Un-Named one, and for her trust she was betrayed. He sought to govern the Red Tongue and dictate the surrounding land. The conflict was resolved, but only after great loss, and terrible grief. Ratha returned to what many would declare her rightful place, presiding over her People.
The Named later left home territory in the search for water, and after a journey to the coast, Ratha was reunited with her daughter, Thistle-Chaser. Their initial confrontation was violent, but led to somber awakening and a renewed hope. Days on the beach proved comfortable, but such luxury was short lived. The Hunter Tribe was unearthed, and turbulent events transpired, resulting in a perplexing alliance. The Clan’s realization and struggle to understand the Hunter Tribe has forged and strengthened the new bond shared between Ratha and Thistle-Chaser.
Despite her profound lessons, Ratha is reminded daily, that there is still much, much more to learn.

Companions/Coalitions:
Ratha is frequently seen in the company of her Treeling, Ratharee. On lazy days, she can be found lounging with Thakur or Fessran. She is a friend and guide to all of the Named.
