Before the coming of the Red Tongue, the Named followed a basic social structure. You were either of the Clan, or of the Un-Named. The only division among members was the well-defined line between Herder and Leader. The arrival of fire demanded new talents, and gave broader diversity to the old ways. No longer where they shepherds alone - they were Firekeepers, Warriors, and Teachers.

The Named carry both Ranks and Titles. Ranks are positions of authority.
Titles are badges of valor or respect, and while they may gain one bared throats and a place at the Clan Kill, Titles do not possess the influence of a Rank.
