Burmese

To my mind, and I don't hide my bias, the Burmese encapsulates everything that one could want from a cat. I am never surprised to hear of people that say they don't like cats but still show fondness for a Burmese that they have met.

"Biba" - Brown Burmese - Ishcus Riboletta

Somewhere between the elegant svelte foreign type and (some might say) demanding personality of the siamese and orientals, and the cobby build and aloofness of the British shorthairs the Burmese is a natural looking cat that maintains a definite and unmistakable foreign quality and is always at the centre of things in its unrelenting quest for affection.  In my experience Burmese do not discriminate in their affections (mine are to be found cuddling up to any available member of the household, be they human, cat or dog) and fit well into family life.  One thing that a Burmese demands is love and attention, so do not consider living with one unless you are prepared to give this in abundance.

"Blixa" - Blue Burmese - Grand Premier Ismisha Nimrods Son

Described as "a brick wrapped in silk",  the Burmese is a medium sized cat, with a  well muscled, athletic body. It has a very silky & short close lying coat & golden-yellow eyes. Females are smaller than males.  The Original Burmese was a rich mahogany brown cat, referred to as "Brown" in the UK and Ireland and "Sable" in the US.  Then Came  "Blue"  - a delicate blue shade with a silver sheen on the rounded profiles of the cat.  Then came the diluted shades of these colours - Chocolate and Lilac.  Later on the introduction of "red" brought in the reds and creams, and with these  the tortoiseshell  colours (Brown tortie, blue tortie, chcolate tortie and lilac tortie)

Regardless of their outward appearance the Burmese stand alone in terms of their temperament.  They are laid back, social, intelligent & extremely sweet natured cats.  They enjoy company & don't like to be alone for extended periods of time. Burmese are playful cats, especially when they are younger but love nothing more than sleeping on their human companion's lap. Being very gregarious and people oriented pets they thrive on the company of others. They make an ideal family pet. If you are away from the home for long periods of time it is recommended you get two Burmese to keep each other company.

Lilac Burmese Kitten - Ismisha Caribou

The Burmese is a natural breed and is not bred to extremes.  Great care has been taken to insure that, despite the number of years that this cat has been bred and refined, the Burmese bred in Ireland and the UK has not suffered from the whims of fashion and remains true to her original conformation and healthy stature.  The European Burmese of today does not differ greatly from the original Burmese Cat imported into the United States from Burma by Dr Joseph Thompson in 1930.  However, The American Burmese is an altogether different cat today and is regarded as a separate breed.  It is not uncommon for European Burmese to live for 19-20 years.
