The Great Islands
Part 1

Pokemon: Islands of Islar Part 1

       Pokemon: Islands of Islar

Disclaimer: I don't own pokemon as far as I know. I never really liked to make up my own pokemon, however I read some of the stories that people wrote on the tower about made-up pokemon, and I decided to write one. I will try to post pictures of pokemon I make up in case you wish to see what they look like. Anyway, this story takes place in a new region called Islar. Unlike Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn this region is made of islands instead of one landmass. I already posted what the three starters look like on my art side, so if you'd like to check them out. I'm done rambling now, so on with the fic.

The Great Islands of Islar

The snooze went off and under the bed's covers, groaning could be heard as Allie raised her head from her pillow. She squinted at the alarm clock, which pronounced the time to be 8:30. She threw the covers off and rolled off the bed, literally. She got up, rubbing the elbow she fell on and turned the alarm off. She looked in the mirror as she squinted her brown eyes and saw that her hair was frizzed out. Allie grabbed her brush and quickly brought her into it's normal ponytail.She then got dressed into jean shorts and a blue top with a picture of a Mudkip on it. She opened her window as she felt the salty sea breeze hit her face. She had always adored the beach house that her and her family lived in. She had lived in this house on Cedar Island since she was born, however this would be her last day on this island for a long time. She had turned fifteen yesterday, and was now able to start her pokemon journey.

Although the starting age was usually ten, in the Islar region, it had to be raised since a necesity of being able to drive a motor boat was needed in order to get around Islar. Islar wasn't like any other region before it. Instead of one landmass, Islar was comprised of about thirty or so islands, so without a boat, no one would be able to get around.

Allie said her good-byes to her family and set out to Prof. Fir's lab. There she would recieve her first pokemon. She also knew that Thatch and Stella, two other fifteen year olds, would be recieving thier first pokemon today as well. She walked along the trail that would take her to the lab and began to wonder what pokemon that she would choose. She heard that there would be three new pokemon to choose from. She knew there would be a fire, water, and grass type up for grabs. She liked water pokemon, but perhaps the fire type would be best.

She soon reached the labratory, which was on the other side of the island, and went inside. She was greeted by Thatch, who had been waiting on a couch. His short brown hair was always messy. Allie couldn't remember a time when his hair had actually been neat. His green eyes looked into her brown ones and she quickly looked away. He was wearing jeans and a loose gray T-shirt.

"So, Thatch, is Prof Fir here yet?" Allie asked shyly although she and Thatch had been friends since they first met at the local preschool.

"No, and neithar is Stella. It's just the two of us." Thatch sat down on the couch and Allie sat in the cushon furthar from him. "So which pokemon are you going to start with?"

"I was thinking that I will start with the fire type." she answered.

"I think I might start with the water type. I wonder what the three starting pokemon are. I heard that they are giving out new pokemon instead of Torchic, Mudkip, and Treecko." Thatch said as the door burst open and Prof Fir stepped in.

"Sorry I'm late, I had to pick up some pokemon food. Then I saw an injured Staryu and, well, anyway I guess we should head back to the starter room, thats where I give new trainers thier first pokemon. Hey, where's Stella? I thought she was starting today also." Prof Fir said as entered. His brown hair was in his brown eyes and he brushed it out. He was young for a proffessor, and had some stubble on his chin. Then the door flew open and Stella staggered in.

"Sorry, I overslept." Stella said as she rubbed her eyes. She was wearing jean capris and a pink spaghetti-strap shirt. Her dirty-blond hair blew in the wind as she closed the door. Her blue eyes surveyed the room. Allie frowned, her and Stella had never gotten along as well as they could have.

"That's okay, I was late myself." Prof. Fir said as he lead them down the hall to a room in the back. He opened it and inside was a large projector screen and a table with three pokeballs on it. "As you must all be aware I am giving out three new pokemon this time. I will now release each, as the projector pokedex tells you about each."

He released the first pokemon, and a small orca whale popped out. It had large spots covering it's body and tear shaped markings under it's eyes. It's red eyes adjusted to the room's lighting."Orcafin the land orca pokemon, type: water. Orcafin used to live in the ocean thousands of years ago, however it evolved to live on land. Orcafin only swim when hunting for goldeen to eat or when escaping danger, otherwise they prefer not to swim."

Then Prof Fir released a little fox popped out. It had long ears, lite yellow fur with red: paws, chest, and ear and tail tips. It had big light blue eyes and a little black nose. It stood on all fours as wagged it's tail. "Pyrate the flame fox pokemon, type: fire. When Pyrate becomes angry, it's tail and paws will become flames. Unlike other fire pokemon, Pyrate has such a small mouth that it can't breath fire, instead it uses fire attacks such as flame wheel."

Last of all, Prof Fir released a green bear pokemon with light purple flowers for ears. The pokemon's belly was a darker green then it's body. It's tail was a giant leaf and it had small arms, but no legs or feet. It's dark eyes twinkled in the room's light. "Aroumer the floral bear pokemon type: grass. Aroumer's flowers are said to be a sign of how well it is raised, the more petals, the better it was raised. Aroumer are sometimes seen with bites in thier tail, since wurmple and caterpie sometimes mistake the tail for food."

"Now that you have seen what pokemon are availible, it is now time to make your decision. Now I don't know who was here first, but that person gets to make the first choice." Prof fir told them as he sat down at his desk.

Thatch got up and walked over to the table and to the color coded pokeballs whose color matced the type of pokemon withen the ball. (the pokemon had been returned to their pokeballs). He picked up the blue pokeball and walked over to Prof Fir's desk.

"Okay, here's your pokeballs and pokedex, which has a map and your registartion info. Now do you wish to give your Orcafin a nickname?" Prof Fir asked as he typed into Thatch's pokedex.

"Is it a boy or a girl?" Thatch asked as he examined the pokeball.

"The only girl is Aroumer." Prof Fir said.

"Well, how about Orca?"

"How original." Prof Fir stopped typing into the pokedex and handed it to Thatch, "Now if you could wait till everyone is finished please."

Thatch took his seat as Allie walked to the table. She picked up the red pokeball and headed over to Prof Fir. He typed on her pokedex as well, then asked her "Nickname?"

"I think I'll call him Pyro." she said as Prof Fir typed this into her pokedex and handed it to her. She took the seat next to Thatch as Stella got up and took the remaining green pokeball.

She walked over to Prof Fir and said before he could ask "I will nickname her Star, because that is what she will be."

He handed her the pokedex as she sat on the other side of Thatch. Prof Fir walked over to them and handed each of them a ticket. "I am also supposed to issue you boats, however I only have one left, so if you three could share untill you reach Limegreen Island, which you should reach by tomarrow. Then give these tickets to the local boat shop. He will issue each of you the standerd boat, which is big enough to acompany three people and their pokemon at the most. I wish you all luck and safety on the journey ahead."

With that said, the three got up and left, uncertain of the journeys that each of them would face and the things that they would see. Allie was sure that she would overcome what lied ahead. The three of them got into the boat on the pier by Prof Fir's house and set sail. Allie's dad was a fisher, so she felt at home on a boat at sea, as she had accompanied him on several of his trips. She smiled and closed her eyes as the sea breeze blew her hair. She took out her ponytail holder and let her hair blow freely in the wind.

Thatch sat in the corner and began to fiddle with his pokedex, but not a lot of info was in it, since his jorney had yet to begin. So he stood up and watched the waves. He had never really been at sea before. He loved the beach, but had never really sailed before. Only once when he had accompained Allie on one of her dad's fishing trips, but wasn't sure if that was the same thing. He glanced over at Allie. She had been his best friend for as long as he could remember. Then he looked over at Stella. He had never really liked Stella much. She kept acting like she was better then everyone else. She had always been overly friendly to Thatch, and he wasn't sure what she thought about him.

Stella looked out at the waves and turned a little green. She had never much cared for the ocean, and the few times she had been sailing before, she always got a little sick. Allie was steering the boat, but there was such a good wind, that it was little work.

``````````````````````````````````````````````
The sun had set. Allie released the anchor and took down the sail. They would reach Limegreen Island in the morning. Stella handed each of them sandwiches and chips, and soon dinner was had. Everyone rolled out their sleeping bags and laid down. Stella was out like a light, however Allie and Thatch weren't as quick sleepers as Stella.
"So," Thatch began, "how does it feel to be a pokemon trainer?"
"Well, I haven't done any training yet, so I'm not really sure." Allie replied as she turned in her sleeping bag.
"True, I haven't done any yet myself. There isn't a gym on Limegreen Island, but there might be trainers to battle. We might even catch some pokemon." he told her as he laid on his back and looked at the stars. The sky was so much clearer out at sea then it was back on Cedar Island.
"Maybe," Allie said as she slid into a dream, filled with pokemon, adventure, and.....Thatch?!They slept together tonight, but soon the three of them would split up and set out on thier own journey. One filled with changes, friendships, and, of course, pokemon!
