Isham's Netherland Dwarfs

Specializing in the otter variety of Netherland Dwarf

Welcome to Isham's Netherland Dwarfs!

Hello!  My husband, Dan, our daughter, Shannon, and I (Heather) run a small rabbitry.  We breed, raise and show the otter variety of Netherland Dwarf.  Although I bred and raised dwarf rabbits of the shaded variety and himalayan variety when I was a teenager, we just started doing this as a family in 2005 and had our first litters in the summer of 2006.  Our goal is to stay small and concentrate on improving our otter Netherland Dwarfs, though we have had a variety of colors pop up in our litters.  So far we have had black, chocolate, blue and lilac otters, solids in ruby-eyed white, chocolate, lilac, blue and black, a lilac himilayan, a black himilayan, a siamese sable, a chestnut, a chocolate chestnut and opals.  Shannon also had her first tortiseshell baby this year and is looking forward to starting to breed her rabbits and continue to show in 2009.  We are both going to try our hand at some brokens this year as well.  We were lucky enough to purchase some excellent starting stock from other Netherland Dwarf breeders in Wisconsin and have supplemented them with some stock from Montana and Minnesota.  We have sold rabbits to Japan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Montana and North Dakota.  We look forward to competing at more shows this year.  We will have show, brood and pet quality rabbits for sale at various times, so check back often.

As far as more about us, Dan & I have been married since 2002 and together since 1998.  We live in northwestern Wisconsin with our wonderful daughter and a slew of critters.  Our other animals include; horses, dogs, cats and fish.  Some of our hobbies include horseback riding, hunting, fishing, camping, reading, computers, swimming and playing pool.  I teach and my husband works construction, so we keep pretty busy.  Please e-mail rheanikita@yahoo.com if you would like more information about our rabbits.  Thanks!!

Recent News

4-28-09  Shannon picked up an adorable broken tort buck from Ruth & Laura and Heather picked up a nice broken black otter buck from Lori.  We are both looking forward to seeing litters from these guys.  Thanks guys!!  In the coming month look for a new page devoted to Shannon's torts and pictures of the new boys, as well as litter updates.

1-31-09  Finally we made it to another show, lol.  It was Shannon's day today.  She won her first leg with Elven Oak's Jasmine, who was just perfect for the show and is turning into a gorgeous doe.  She also was BOSV with her little accident, the siamese sable buck, Isham's Starlight (Frodo x Wendy).  Our does did very well also, especially Isham's Shadowfax (Frodo x Lapis).  It was great to catch up with some people that we haven't seen for a while.  Our first otter doe, Blue Hills Lapis, was picked up by her new owners and traveled to her new home in North Dakota.  We will miss her, but hope she will produce some nice babies for them too.  Here is a picture of Jasmine.

10-4-08  Another fun show at Cambridge, MN.  Cocoa was Best Opposite of Group and won his second leg.  Yeah!!  Shannon was also excited to show her new tort doe, Jasmine, for the first time.  Thanks Mandy, Richard & Emily!

5-4-08 We had a great day at Rice Lake!  We won our first Best Of Breed with a jr. lilac otter doe, Henar's Rayna (Isham's Lightning x Isham's Claudia), in the first show!  Yeah!!!  We only took two rabbits to show, but it was a really good time.  Isham's Andreus (Lacey) was BOV and Rayna was BOSV in the second show.  Here is a picture of Rayna showing off her new trophy.

4-14-08 We lost our old Netherland Dwarf mix at 7 years old.  She was a great rabbit, a good pet to Shannon and introduced many children to rabbits.  She will be missed.  Rest in Peace Iris.

1-11-08 Isham's Timon (Cocoa x Chalene) was awarded Best Opposite Sex of Breed at the Hutchinson, MN New Year's Eve Show.  It is the highest placing that we have had so far and it was won by a rabbit that we had already sold, lol.  Isham's Frodo (Cocoa x Shy Girl) placed 1st in the Sr. Otter Bucks and Isham's Sarafina (Cocoa x Lacey) won BOG & BOV, each earning their own legs.  Cocoa sure is producing some fantastic litters.
