The Fray was started in spring 2002.
Isaac Slade (Vocals,Piano) and Joe King (Guitar,Vocals) were former schoolmates who ran into each other unexpectedly at a Guitar Center. Soon after they started writing and instrumenting songs together the songs drew in Isaacs former bandmates, Ben Wysocki (drummer) and Dave Welsh (guitarist), who joined completing the band's lineup.
Soon after small gigs and small stages, they soon signed a contract for Epic and started to play on big stages! 'Over my Head (Cable Car)', the bands first single, is what made The Fray known around the globe. From small Denver, Colorado to across the world everyone fell in love with The Fray!
The Frays name was picked from a suggestion bowl from Caleb Slades ,Isaacs little brothers, graduation party. They liked the name and stuck with it. Caleb left the band after Isaac and possibly the other band mates subtly "kicked him out" because he wasn't really helping the band move forward.
and that's what sparked the fight that resulted in the song Over My Head. Dan Battenhouse replaced Caleb on bass. Zach Johnson[drums] left The Fray to attend an acting school in New York. Dave Welsh then joined in the band. Jimmy Stofer was their bassist for a while. He left so another bassist could experience The Fray. Dan Lavery took his place.
For about three years now The Fray has been taking a break and writing a new album. The album is finished and will be released on 2.3.09. Its self-titled.
