Ipswich Eagles Cycle Speedway Club were crowned champions of the 2009 Wosskow Brown British Youth & Junior League at Sheffield on 26th September. This represents the sixth occasion in the last seven years that Ipswich has taken top spot in this competition.
At this time, as we celebrate another fantastic achievement for our club, it is only right to reflect on how we find ourselves in this position.
Firstly, the riders; we have been blessed in having 43 different riders who have gone out and represented the club, to the best of their ability, across the eight rounds of this competition during the course of the season. Their enthusiasm and togetherness has been a joy to see. We at Ipswich will never take their dedication for granted and are extremely proud of all of them. We also extend our congratulations to both Laura Dale and Ashley Hill for their podium finishes in their respective age groups.
Secondly, the parents; the commitment that has been shown by the parents again this year has been astonishing. In the current economic climate the level of expense incurred in taking the riders to these events cannot be underestimated. Ipswich CSC would like to place on record our indebtedness to all those concerned – your efforts have been superb. We would also like to pass on our thanks to Ivan Pike for providing additional transport facilities for the national rounds.
Thirdly, the coaches; without a doubt the regimes that have been put in place on our training nights has meant that the riders have been fitter and better prepared than ever before. To this extent we would like to offer our sincere gratitude to Paul Jay, Daniel Johnson, Leon Yelland, Tony Stant, Paul Fryatt & Dave Hill for all their efforts this year.
Lastly we would like to pay tribute to the following;
The organisers - for all the hard work that is required in planning the competition.
Wosskow Brown - for their continued and very generous sponsorship of this competition.
The host clubs - for all their efforts in staging these meetings particularly in the light of the unprecedented numbers that have ridden this year.
We would also like to pass on our warmest congratulations to our near neighbours at Kesgrave in securing the runners-up position this year. They have provided terrific competition all the way through both regional and national rounds. We are very fortunate that here in Suffolk cycle speedway is going through a purple patch at present in relation to the amount of young riders that are competing.
Obviously we are very aware of one or two issues that have occurred during the running of this years competition and some of the criticisms that have been made, however should the organisers consider changes to next years format we shall accommodate these accordingly. In the meantime we shall continue to enjoy the satisfaction of another job well done.
Issued on behalf of the committee of Ipswich CSC

NEWS FLASH
IPSWICH CYCLESPEEDWAY CLUB RETIAN THE BRITISH YOUTH & JUNIOR LEAGUE TITLE FOR 2009
The future is bright, as the saying goes, and the sun certainly shone on the British Youth and Junior league as round four of the Wosskow Brown Sponsored event rolled into Sheffield's Graves Tennis & Leisure Centre last Saturday, 26th September. Some 160 riders competed in age catogories ranging from under eight through to under eighteen for the boys and a separate catogory for the girls(12 to 17) which proves the strength of this competition.
Racing always starts at noon prompt and usually continues until well after 9pm, with no breaks (no pun intended). With this constant flow of action, pit marshaling is of the highest order to ensure the slick running of the heats: indeed the pits is not the place to be unless you need to be there, with twenty plus bikes ready to roll at any given time. I if you happen to be in the way, you'll be treated to some stern words from the youngsters.
Leagues are always testing in any sport: one missed meeting and your chance of individual glory and your team winning overall is reduced so it can be a strain on riders. It's also taxing for the parents - the ever popular dad's taxi service - but the camararderie between parents and the riders makes it all very worthwhile.
Overall team honours and the gold medals for 2009 went to Ipswich with close neighbours and rivals Kesgrave taking the silver in a hard fought tussle, which went to the wire.
