In Memory of Paul Flynn ( January 6, 1968 - June 18, 2007)
The lead community has lost an advocate and a friend.
Paul Flynn, from Gateway Northwest Maternal & Child Health Network in Newark, NJ passed away early Monday morning, June 18th due to complications of an ongoing illness.
Paul's primary responsibility was lead poisoning awareness and fund raising activities. He served as the Program Director of Community Lead Education and Remediation, an Americorps affiliate (CLEARCorps) and staff director of the Newark Partnership for Lead Safe Children. He worked closely with the Leadie Eddie program and with new initiatives in lead testing through dust wipes and a pilot "lead court" curriculum. Paul served in various nonprofit staff and volunteer capacities: Executive Director of a disease specific agency, a founder and past board president of Jersey Cares, Acting director of development at Seton Hall Law School and a board member for Discovery Charter School in Newark, where he resided. He earned a bachelors degree in Political Science and Masters in Public Administration from Seton Hall University.
IPAL will continue to hand out Leadie Eddie coloring books as a way to fulfill Paul's dream of promoting Leadie Eddie as the national icon for childhood lead poisoning prevention.
God Bless you Paul for all your hard work.
