Invisible Youth Network

Advocating for America's Youth

Would you believe that there are very few organizations that address the issues of homeless youth?

Even more distressing is how the business/professional communities; government agencies; and even the religious communities could care less.

Although there are, thankfully, exceptions to this rule, these kids--non-voters who are neither huge consumers nor significant contributors to collection plates--are, generally, seen by the above as not really any concern of theirs.

Now steps the Invisible Youth Network into the picture.

The Invisible Youth Network is committed to recruiting individuals interested in working with homeless youth as youth advocates. Our volunteers continue to come--and remain with us--because of their own commitment to the work we do. Both the work that they do and the experience that they gain is invaluable to all involved!

Our goals are to continue to motivate our volunteers to become engaged in activities that are in the best interests of homeless youth.

Why do Youth Become Homeless?

Youth become homeless for a variety of reasons

For example, they run away from homes where they may have been subjected to abuse or sexual exploitation; exposed to domestic violence; or have substance abusing parents.

Some are rejected because of sexual orientation, pregnancy, problems at school, or issues with drugs and alcohol. Youth leaving detention placements or those aging out of foster care may also find themselves homeless. While living on the streets, these youth are vulnerable to abuse, exploitation, violence, and prostitution.

In keeping with the federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHYA) of 1978, our programs are designed to protect runaway and homeless youth and, whenever possible, reunite them with their families. In cases where reunification is not possible, these programs are designed to help youth progress from crisis and transitional care to independent living.

If We All Give A Little
