What are HYIP & how they work

HYIP's

What are HYIP's?

HYIP stands for "High Yield Investment Program".  Most of these investments focus primarily on FOREX markets.  These types of investments yield much higher returns on your money than the standard investment (such as mutual fund, savings account, stocks and bonds, ect.) but also come with a much higher risk of losing your money. HYIP's have been around for decades but up until recently, were only available to the ultra rich, mainly because of the high minimums required to invest.(Most starting at 2 mil.)

Are HYIP's scams?
Yes and no.  There are HYIP's that are legitimate but over 99% of the HYIP's you will encounter online will be out and out scams.  However, even with the scam sites, there is a potential to earn although this should be considered a game rather than investment.

Most of their disclamers reads

As a private transaction, this program is exempt from the US Securities Act of 1933, the US Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and the US Investment Company Act of 1940 and all other rules, regulations and amendments thereof. We are not FDIC insured. We are not a licensed bank or a security firm

What should I look for to determine whether an HYIP is real or fake?
Due Diligence is a word you will become very familiar with when you become involved with "fringe" investments.  This is simply the process of determining whether the website is actually trading or doing what it claims to do.  There are many steps to this and most of the time, you will not get all the information to be assured that the prospective investment is, in fact, real.  However, this process will allow you to judge exactly how much you should trust them and how much risk there will be when you are investing.  Most HYIP's are largely unregulated by government entitlies making DueDiligence even harder

A while back, when I first started dealing with HYIP's, I had no clue as to what I was doing or what I needed to look for when investigating these investments.  At first I relied solely on the forums and basically only invested in the more popular HYIP's.  I got lucky, because although all the sites I invested in turned out to be scams, I was able to not lose, as most hung around long enough for me to at least get my initial investment back.  As time has gone by, I have learned from past mistakes and, although I still play the games every once in a while (I am a gambler at heart), the bulk of my investments are legitimate.

So, what do you look for when searching for the legitimate HYIP's.  Well, it is easier to first knock out the Scam Sites first.  Let's takes a look
:

Chances are likely a site is a scam IF
  • If the percentage is above: 1% daily.  I know that the subject of exactly how much a trader can make in the FOREX market is one that is hotly debated.  Many argue that 100% per month is possible.  Maybe.  Probably not.  The percentage is actually closer to 5-20% per month on AVERAGE .
  • If they pay directly into your e-gold account daily it is a good chance that it is a scam.
  • If they compound daily it is a great chance that it is a scam.
  • If they offer high referral fees, then it is a good chance it is a scam
  • If the site is Russian or from anywhere in the Eastern bloc of Europe, it is a good chance it is a scam.
  • Goldcoders Script-  This is the basic HYIP website script.  More scam sites use this than any other script because it is basically an HYIP website in a box
How to Spot a GoldCoders Script

IF YOU LOG INTO AN HYIP AND THE BACK OFFICE HAS LINKS IN THIS ORDER:

  • HOME
  • ACCOUNT
  • MAKE DEPOSIT
  • YOUR DEPOSITS
  • DEPOSIT HISTORY
  • EARNINGS HISTORY
  • REFERRAL HISTORY
  • CURRENCY EXCHANGE
  • WITHDRAW
  • WITHDRAW HISTORY
  • YOUR REFERRALS
  • REFERRAL LINKS
  • EDIT ACCOUNT
  • LOGOUT

THEN IT IS A GOLDCODER'S SCRIPT.  HOWEVER, YOU DON'T NEED TO LOG ON TO FIND OUT.  IF THE SCRIPT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED, THEN ON THE HOMEPAGE, IT MAY HAVE THIS ON THE LEFT SIDE:

  • MEMBER LOGIN
  • SITE STATS
  • INFO

But it not always when you spot a Gold Coders Script that the HYIP program is a scam (USE YOUR BEST JUDGEMENT)

  • WhoisDomain Info doesn't match-  You think you found a good HYIP, investigate the whoisdomain info and find that the address doesn't match zip code, or the phone number doesn't match the address, ect.  What real company would not know their own address?
  • When searching the whois info, the information is protected-  Whenever I see a domainsbyproxy, I immediately suspect something.  When there is absolutely no contact information, it most probably a scam.  Also, KatzGlobal is a known host that hosts many scam sites.

    So what is left?

An HYIP MAY NOT be a scam if:
    • The whois domain info matches who they claim to be
    • You can get in touch with administrators by phone and there is a verifiable address
    • You can verify that they invest in what they claim to invest in.
    • The percentages are more realistic (relatively speaking)- 3-20% on average monthly.
    • The percentages are variable.
    • They don't offer high referral fees.  After all, why would they need more members?

Some of the best investments don't even bother themselves with a website, so the website design shouldn't have any bearing as to whether they should be trustworthy or not.  Remember, most "real investors" probably aren't great web design people.  However, I would definately stay away from sites using the goldcoder script.(not always true-use your best judgement)
Also, just because a company claims to be private doesn't actually mean that it is automatically a safe bet.  There are plenty of HYIP's that claim to be private that are actively advertised by its members on the forums.  Now that isn't that private now, is it?
