What exactly are autosurfs?

Autosurf sites are sites where you watch ads.  They are also known as ad generators.  In order to explain what they do, it is easier to illustrate exactly what happens after you become a member and start to surf.  After you log in, you start "surfing", most of the time this means watching a set of ads from other members of the site for a set time.  when you first start surfing, the first ad will appear for a set time period (most of the time between 20 and 30 seconds).  Once the time period for the ad has expired, another ad will appear.  Once you reach the required number of sites to surf daily, you will earn whatever the daily percentage that the site offers (normally 1%).

How do autosurfs make money?

This is a hard question to answer since each one makes money differently.  Some claim to make money by charging money to non members to advertise.  This is highly unlikely.  Others claim to make money by doing various things, such as web hosting, e-currency processing, ect.  Still others claim to invest in the various markets out there much like HYIP's.

I am confused.  What is the difference between autosurfs and HYIP's?

The main difference between the two is primarily the wording in the terms.  Most HYIP's don't have a term limit and if they do, the principle is returned at the end of the term.  Most HYIP's view their members as investors.  Most HYIP's will explain how they make money.  Autosurfs, however, usually have a term limit, usually but not always, 365 days.  If you don't reinvest, after the term limit expires, your membership ends and the money that you put in, disappears.  To prevent this, many members will compound a portion of their monthly earnings in order to maintain their earnings even after their term has expired.  Autosurfs refrain from calling members money "investments", instead opting for the word "upgrades".  You can earn in most autosurfs with nothing invested although the returns are almost negligible.  A lot of autosurfs will not state how they earn. Also, a lot of autosurfs will accept paypal as a payment processor.  I have yet to find any online HYIP's that accept paypal.
