News

06/09 France brings in the big gun
After a rather disappoiting result in ISC 42 (outside the top 10 target) France has decided to play high cards with the biggest French hit from the last decade:
Moi Lolita by Alizee. We have seen Alizee at the ISC before and didn't score as good as she should do. But hey! three's a charm! Who knows she will give France it's victory once again!

06/06 Jana Kirschner for Slovakia to Tromsø
Slovakia has very high expectations of their next ISC entry, as the country is sending one of its biggest stars to Norway.  Jana Kirschner is one of the most popular singers in Slovakia and has since 1996 released 5 albums.  She has been nominated Singer Of The Year on various occasions and she has won many different awards in her career.  Jana was born on December 19, 1978 in the Northern Slovak town of Martin.  She first shot to fame after taking part in the Miss Slovakia contest in 1996. The song that was selected to be sung by Jana is called “Pokoj v Dusi”.  It became an instant hit in Slovakia and is one of the most popular songs over 2009. The song is also the title song of the Slovak movie with the same title.

06/06 Greece goes naughty with Efstathia - One night stand
With this song Greece tries again to qualify for the final. With sensual rhythm & voice and lyrics in French, Greek and a few words English this must be the secret combination!
At least that's what the Greek think, let's see if others countries agree on that. Greece chooses on purpose a song that won’t be a predictable qualifyer just to keep the competition exciting for themselves also.
Meanwhile Helena Paparizou & Sakis Rouvas have to stand in line.

06/06 Israel goes Spanish
this time Israel decided to send something different...a song in Spanish language !Israel will be represent by Marta Gomez a Colombian singer who took part at Idan Raichel Project with the song "Todas La Palabras".Elad, HOD Israe, hope that if people look for original and special song they will vote for this one. to hear the next Israeli entry for ISC 43 you can click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRTxeOOxtLM

06/03 Brazil wants to Shine and achieve a good place in Norway
After bad results for Brazil in the last five editions, Brazil decided send another Diva to International Song Contest.
This time the Latin Grammy Award-winner Daniela Mercury will have the honor to represent this big nation with an amazing and charming song called 'Pérola Negra' ('Black Pearl' in english). This song made a huge success in Brazil and other countries in Latin America, Europe and Africa. This song praises afro-brazilian people and called them beautiful and precious like a pearl. Brazilian delegation have high expectations about this song and we hope seeing Brazil in the Final one more time and maybe bring victory home, thing that never happens before. We believe that this is the right song and that all ISC-members waited to listen from Brazil. We hope doing well in Norway.
Good Luck to everyone in Norway and we hope that you like our song and enjoy it.

06/03 New Zealand sends a song in Maori
Despite entering the International Song Contest no fewer than 16 times, it has never sent a song in its second official language of Maori. The country has send two songs in Tokelau, a langauge spoken in the New Zealand over-seas dependency of Tokelau. Both entries were sung by the award-winning Pacific music band, Te Vaka, the first, Tamahana was in both Tokelau and English and failed to reach the final, their second entry, Manatu, did only marginally better, reaching the final but not doing very well.
Maori will be the sole language for New Zealand's 17th entry, and it will be sung by one of New Zealand's best known international soprano's, Kiri Te Kanawa, who has recieved honours such as the Order of New Zealand, Order of Australia, Order of the British Empire (DBE), making her (as far as we know) the only Dame to take part in the contest to date. She sings in Italian, French, German, Russian, English and Maori and has been known to sing the works of Mozart, Verdi, Handel and Puccini. However the song she will be singing, Tarakihi, is based on a traditional Maori folk song, it is more than 300 years old and sings of the huge strength of the cicada (locust) and how it sleeps in caves at night and comes out to sing its stories by day, it is a metaphore for humanity, especially the Maori people.
