Working together process

The Photography and WebPages groups were linked and started the process in separate 'younger generation' and 'older generation' workshops for 4 weeks each t people in the same age group. the 'older generation and ‘younger generation’ workshops for 4 weeks each. Both age groups thought about each other’s age group through the questions ‘How do you think other people view younger people?’ and ‘How do you think younger people view older people?’  Each group then divided into a Camera team and a Web team to develop visual expressions about the two age groups.  They came together to share their thinking and to work together on a poster project promoting non-ageism and a series of Intergenerational WebPages. (The songwriter leader Alan Ness speaks about the song writing groups later.)

Here the Younger generation group express visually:

"How do you think younger people view older people?"

In terms of stereotypes, both age groups came up with very similar responses to both questions, but with the occasional surprising difference.  Both groups wanted to move beyond stereotypes.  While expressing some truths, the stereotypes fell well short of the full picture and both age groups had begun to feel that, and especially as they worked further in the photography and web settings.
