WHO  IS  OSAMA  BIN  LADEN  AND  WHY  IS  HE  SO  IMPORTANT  ANYWAY ?

The United States used Osama in the Afghan war against the Soviet Union like other Afghan warlords. The concept of Jihad was inculcated and reinforced in their mind through systematic efforts such as publication of the text books promoting Jihad at the University Of Nebraska. After the Afghan war, Osama left Afghanistan like many other Arabs, who later returned to seek refuge from their own repressive governments. They started looking at the US as their enemy because in their view the US supported unrepresentative and repessive regimes in their countries just as the Soviets did in Afghansitan. Brainwashed as a result of the earlier CIA's pro-Jihad literature and support, they believed they can defeat yet another super power - this time to liberate their own homelands. Osama heavily relied on the rhetoric of Jihad and rejected the idea of using the print and electronic media to make his case. There is hardly any evidence that he used the word "Al-Qaeda" anywhere in his text of speech before 9/11. Nor is there any evidence that he planned 9/11, as we can see from several reports, including the one from FBI, given above. The few videos released after September 11 are mostly fake and were timed to achieve specific desired objectives. Whereas, Osama is MOST PROBABLY dead. However, it is in the interest of continuing occupation to keep the myth of his power and international outreach of Al-Qaeda alive. The following reports support these views. Osama's rhetoric and tall claims before 9/11 didn't help the Muslims at all. Instead it paved the way for making Muslims target of xenophobia after 9/11. Muslims are living like 21st century Jews because instead of trying to put their own houses in order and playing a lead role in tranformation at home, Osama relied on rhetoric to take on the super power which was protecting and sustaining the Saudi regime against which Osama had some genuine grievances. Osama could use his influence for a change of opinion and mass mobilization at home because most of the population feels the same as a result of the oppressive kingdom. If Osama had put his demands in the right perspective of human rights violations in Saudi Arabia, the need for the Muslims' right to self-determination, freedom and representaitve/broad-based governments in Arabia and elsewhere, he would have won many supporters even among non-Muslims abroad, let alone Saudi residents at home, who would have loved to join the struggle. Since his psyche was shaped by the CIA into winning everything with violence, Osama used the same language and not only squandered a great opportunity, but also made Muslims all over the world a target of hate. Muslims today cannot even express their legitimate concerns and genuine grievance without getting labelled as extremists and terrorist sympathisers.

Intelcenter is run by Ben Venzke, who is an interesting character. A google search results in the revelation that he used to be the director of intelligence at a company called IDEFENSE, which is a verisign company. IDEFENSE is a web security company that monitors intelligence from the middle east conflicts and focuses on cyber threats among other things.
It is also heavily populated with long serving ex military intelligence officials.

C is for Caliphate

 

Why do those who rally the world against the Islamic caliphate fear and hate the possibility of it so? What kind of government is a caliphate? In what sense would it be global? Would it destroy all other governments or could it exist alongside them?  Would it be oppressive? Who wants a caliphate? 

From Caliphate Online comes a non-Muslim view of the Caliphate (words of Tony Blair):

They demand the elimination of Israel; the withdrawal of all Westerners from Muslim countries, irrespective of the wishes of people and government; the establishment of effectively Taleban states and Sharia law in the Arab world en route to one caliphate of all Muslim nations. We don't have to wonder what type of country those states would be. Afghanistan was such a state. Girls put out of school. Women denied even rudimentary rights. People living in abject poverty and oppression. All of it justified by reference to religious faith.

D is for Democracy

A famous quote from a famous man...a man who, in addition to kind of, sort of upholding this dubiously stated superiority of democracy, believed in eugenics and the use of genocide and ethnic cleansing by superior races or societies, possibly because of his awareness stated here: "The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter." So weeding out as many undesireables as possible and using propaganda to control the rest might be seen as necessary in the kind of democracy we have wherever we are said to have it--a democracy of the elitists, by the elitists and for the elitists.

So what really is democracy and--where is it?  Is America a democracy of some kind? ( Or democratic republic I am generally informed.)  We're supposed to think so.  And we are supposed to support the exporting of democracy to other countries (the biggest and most fraudulent export in our war economy). But what sort of democracy and how and why?

Is democracy truly superior to any other form of government? When US leaders talk about democracy, what are they really saying and--more importantly--what are they really doing? ~SuZ

Those monopolies, excluding the weak from their rightful share and the right to self-determination, follows naturally. ....The majority of us do not have a dog in this billion-dollar electoral fight, and the majority will not vote at all, and why should they? If McCain wins, more war and more austerity. If Obama wins, even more war and even more austerity, but with no political opposition. By November 5, the same people will be controlling our lives, regardless of the election outcome. Real power never gets voted out of office. It must be confronted and overturned.

States like these, and their terrorist allies, constitute an axis of evil, arming to threaten the peace of the world.  By seeking weapons of mass destruction, these regimes pose a grave and growing danger.  They could provide these arms to terrorists, giving them the means to match their hatred.  They could attack our allies or attempt to blackmail the United States.  In any of these cases, the price of indifference would be catastrophic.

As many others have asked--who has more "weapons of mass destruction" than the United States? Who has a more horrific record of freely using WMDs against large numbers of innocent civilians?

Who is currently threatening what little peace is left in the world by declared intentions to "deploy effective missile defenses" in Poland thus provoking Russia to do the same in Syria?

What regime is more dangerous than that of  the U.S.? What regime is doing more than threatening other sovereign nations with the world's most destructive weapons but is actually opportunistically attacking and devastating them on pretexts that are nothing more than lies?

What regime is responsible for the evils of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo?

Perhaps North Korea, Iran and Iraq should have been considered as a potential axis of evil with the US, Great Britain and Israel recognized as an actual, active axis of evil.

They want to overthrow existing governments in many Muslim countries, such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.  [They must hate the freedoms of Egypt's, Saudi Arabia's and Jordan's people too. I have heard they are way too free over there....But I'd never want to overthrow anybody, would I? Hehe.]   They want to drive Israel out of the Middle East.  [They want to do to the Israelis what the Israelis have been doing to the Palestinians these past 50-some years.]  They want to drive Christians and Jews out of vast regions of Asia and Africa. [Who's "they" again? I'm getting confused...oh yes, al-CIA da and Mossad --"to sustain interventions and occupations."]

G is for the "Good" War in Afghanistan

The War in Afghanistan, which began on October 7, 2001, was launched by the United States and the United Kingdom in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. It was the beginning of the War on Terror. The stated purpose of the invasion was to capture Osama bin Laden, destroy al-Qaeda, and remove the Taliban regime which had provided support and safe harbor to al-Qaeda.

Two military operations in Afghanistan seek to establish control over the country. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) is a combat operation involving coalition partners led by the United States against Al Qaeda remnants, primarily in the eastern and southern parts of the country along the Pakistan border. OEF is not a NATO operation, although many coalition partners are NATO members. Approximately 20,000 troops are in OEF, including approximately 18,000 U.S. forces. The second operation is the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), established by the international community in 2002 to stabilize the country. ....The current war in Afghanistan is not really about al-Qaida and `terrorism,’ but about opening a secure corridor through Pashtun tribal territory to export the oil and gas riches of the Caspian Basin of Central Asia  to the West.  The US and NATO forces in Afghanistan are essentially pipeline protection troops fighting off the hostile natives..   
 
Both Barack Obama and John McCain are wrong about Afghanistan.  It is not a `good’ fight against `terrorism,’ but a classic, 19th century colonial war to advance western geopolitical power into resource-rich Central Asia.  The Pashtun Afghans who live there are ready to fight for another 100 years.  The western powers certainly are not.
 
As that great American founding father Benjamin Franklin said, `there is no good war, and no bad peace.’   Time for the West to face reality in Afghanistan.

By late 1990s, this term was turning into a cliché without enough impact to generate the required amount of fear of Islam. Islamophobes, thus, invented the term “Islamism” to add new dimensions to presenting Islam as a threatening menace.

Eight years down the road, the one-line definitions of “Islamism” and “Islamists” have flooded the corporate media. Most reporters and analysts are frequently using these terms without realizing that they are promoting the myth of “Islamism” and serving sinister objectives which they may not necessarily support.

Irrespective of the deceptive definitions, “Islamism” is used to keep the image of an enemy alive. It is used as a glue to hold the crumbling American empire and associated alliance together. “Islamism” scares non-Muslims and keeps the European Union and others at bay from thinking outside the box for initiatives such as, coming up with an alternative to the present monetary system or taking an independent course to economic development. -more-

Jihad in its various forms and stages is obligatory upon Muslims. Jihadism is a product of US opportunism. Jihad is always for self-actualisation, eradication of mischief and eliminating oppression with a focus on spiritual aspect at all levels. Jihadism is a double edge sword used for self aggrandisement and expansion of the American rule through the use of lies and indiscriminate force with a narrow focus on worldly gains only.

For Muslims, it was a Jihad in Afghanistan. However, for the US, with no relation to Islam and sympathy for Muslims whatsoever, it was simply promotion of violence to weaken an arch enemy, the Soviet Union. It was pure Jihadism, a selective practice and policy without any concern for the people under occupation.

Today, Jihadism and Jihadists are mere labels that the US uses as a bogyman to criminalise resistance to its illegitimate occupations and to justify the policy of total domination through its “war on terrorism.”

The purpose of sponsoring Jihadism in Afghanistan was not to spread Islamic faith, defend Muslims or reap rewards in the hereafter. If it were Jihad based on the Islamic concept, it should have been launched and sponsored by the US simultaneously in Kashmir, Palestine and Afghanistan. Relying on Jihadism then and now is simply to extend sovereign American power. <more>

M is for Militants

US: 30 Militants killed in west Afghanistan clash

Afghan officials issued contradictory statements about what had happened and it was not immediately clear why they offered such differing accounts.

An Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman, Gen. Mohammad Zaher Azimi, confirmed the clash but said five of the 30 dead were civilians.

However, the Afghan Interior Ministry claimed that U.S. coalition bombs killed 76 civilians, including 19 women and 50 children under the age of 15. The ministry called the bombing a "mistake." Read more....

          Comment:  Interestingly, the US and Pakistani bombs are not killing any civilians these days. All those who die as a result of their bombing are militants by default. Lying in the "mainstream" is one things and winning hearts and minds is totally another. Those who read these lies have mostly and already sold their minds and hearts to the "mainstream" media. What miserably fails the aggressors is their inability to changes the facts on the ground and win hearts where they count the most: the front lines. These lies fell upon the surviving victims of the US aggression worse than the physical bombs. I just finished reading what I would have found to be a very reasonable and well-informed article on Islamic Militancy if not for the author's having bought into the myth that al-Qaeda, the perpetrators of 9/11, and various "false flag" terrorists are Islamic rather than Western intelligence community members or patsies or paid thugs.

I see that they are succeeding in their goal of manufacturing realities and confusing the issues on the road to dividing and conquering. It would seem that all is proceeding according to plan and yet, "...the best of planners is Allah." So we shall see...

And yet, when you look over the facts carefully, the craziest and most dangerous conspiracy theory seems to be the one created by the government and propagated by the corporate media. ~SuZ

Astute observers of history are aware that for every notable event there will usually be at least one, often several wild conspiracy theories which spring up around it. So its hardly surprising that the events of Sept 11, 2001 have spawned their fair share of these ludicrous fairy tales. And as always, there is - sadly - a small but gullible percentage of the population eager to lap up these tall tales, regardless of facts or rational analysis.

One of the wilder stories circulating about Sept 11, and one that has attracted something of a cult following amongst conspiracy buffs is that it was carried out by 19 fanatical Arab hijackers, masterminded by an evil genius named Osama bin Laden, with no apparent motivation other than that they "hate our freedoms."

Never a group of people to be bothered by facts, the perpetrators of this cartoon fantasy have constructed an elaborately woven web of delusions and unsubstantiated hearsay in order to promote this garbage across the internet and the media to the extent that a number of otherwise rational people have actually fallen under its spell.

Normally I don't even bother debunking this kind of junk, but the effect that this paranoid myth is beginning to have requires a little rational analysis, in order to consign it to the same rubbish bin as all such silly conspiracy theories.

These crackpots even contend that the extremist Bush regime was caught unawares by the attacks, had no hand in organizing them, and actually would have stopped them if it had been able. Blindly ignoring the stand down of the US air-force, the insider trading on airline stocks - linked to the CIA, the complicit behavior of Bush on the morning of the attacks, the controlled demolition of the WTC, the firing of a missile into the Pentagon and a host of other documented proofs that the Bush regime was behind the attacks, the conspiracy theorists stick doggedly to a silly story about 19 Arab hijackers somehow managing to commandeer 4 planes simultaneously and fly them around US airspace for nearly 2 hours ,crashing them into important buildings, without the US intelligence services having any idea that it was coming, and without the Air Force knowing what to do.

The huge difficulties with such a stupid story force them to invent even more preposturous stories to distract from its core silliness, and thus the tale has escalated into a mythic fantasy of truly gargantuan proportions. <more>

Was America Attacked by Muslims on 9/11?

P is for Pakistan

There are those who would destroy it... 

Christopher Hitchens says, "Pakistan is the Problem" and informs readers that "The very name Pakistan inscribes the nature of the problem. It is not a real country or nation but an acronym devised in the 1930s by a Muslim propagandist for partition named Chaudhary Rahmat Ali. It stands for Punjab, Afghania, Kashmir, and Indus-Sind. The stan suffix merely means "land." In the Urdu language, the resulting acronym means "land of the pure." It can be easily seen that this very name expresses expansionist tendencies and also conceals discriminatory ones. "

Syed Jamaluddin says, "Divide Pakistan to Eleminate Terrorism."  His belief is "It is now established that Pakistan is not a genuine country with any sound political basis but simply an assembly of certain nations which were put together by the British rulers to create a colony of its own kind. Pakistan’s existence has always been a burden and now it is finally proved that Pakistan’s existence will cause great danger to the entire humanity."

In 1967, David Ben Gurion said, "The world Zionist movement should not be neglectful of the dangers of Pakistan to it. And Pakistan now should be its first target, for this ideological State is a threat to our existence. And Pakistan, the whole of it, hates the Jews and loves the Arabs.  

"This lover of the Arabs is more dangerous to us than the Arabs themselves. For that matter, it is most essential for the world Zionism that it should now take immediate steps against Pakistan.
 
"Whereas the inhabitants of the Indian peninsula are Hindus whose hearts have been full of hatred towards Muslims, therefore, India is the most important base for us to work therefrom against Pakistan.
 
"It is essential that we exploit this base and strike and crush Pakistanis, enemies of Jews and Zionism, by all disguised and secret plans."

In 2001, Janes information group reported, "The Indian spy agency RAW and the Israeli spy agency Mossad have created four new agencies to infiltrate Pakistan to target important religious and military personalities, journalists, judges, lawyers and bureaucrats. In addition, bombs would be exploded in trains, railway stations, bridges, bus stations, cinemas, hotels and mosques of rival Islamic sects to incite sectarianism."

In 2006 the US killed Pakistan civilians while targeting al-CIAda's, I mean al-Qaeda's #2 man, Zawahiri (who they fail to get). Sovereignty was not considered violated because officials were "notified" first. Civilians weren't that important because it was so important to try to get Zawahiri after all!

2008 and the US is still "not" violating Pakistan's sovereignty, although crossing its border with Afghanistan to target Taliban and al-Qaeda members without  prior warning or permission. The US claims it respects Pakistan's sovereignty while continuing officially protested cross-border raids and killing more civilians, explaining that it's really ok because Pakistan is not equipped to combat tribal militants. And it really is so important to continue trying to get Zawahiri--civilians (and his own wife, reportedly) be damned.

...and it is revealed that
Pakistan's Taliban are CIA-sponsored.

Now I ask, for what ideological crime of Pakistan's do so many work and wish to see her dismantled, and have done from her very inception?

"If we take our inspiration and guidance from the Holy Qur’an, the final victory, I once again say, will be ours… Do not be overwhelmed by the enormity of the task… You only have to develop the spirit of the Mujahids. You are a nation whose history is replete with people of wonderful character and heroism. Live up to your traditions and add to another chapter of glory. All I require of you now is that everyone… must vow to himself and be prepared to sacrifice his all… in building up Pakistan as a bulwark of Islam and as one of the greatest nations whose ideal is peace within and peace without… Islam enjoins on every Mussulman to give protection to his neighbors and to minorities regardless of caste and creed."

Contrast those words of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in 1947, with these of Musharraf in 2002:

“Muslims must realize that the interests of our sons and daughters, who are American, must come before the interests of our brothers and sisters, whether they are Palestinian, Kashmiri or Iraqi.”


 CIA Tickling People to Death

Michael Hayden said the clandestine agency is using Predator missile attacks to “tickle” enemy groups, to provoke a reaction.

“We use military operations to excite the enemy, prompting him to respond.”

The agency director was jokingly referring to the policy of committing multiple mass-murders of innocent citizens of Pakistan, as a tactic for provoking retaliation by their relatives. This immoral terrorist act is considered to be a legitimate military strategy by the demented CIA mind. It sees no wrong in committing criminal acts, to cause others to commit further criminal acts, as a rationale for starting a divisive world war for resources, under the guise of “self-defense.” The idea that committing acts of war, to cause a greater war is not a war crime itself, is a product of a deranged psychopathic mind. This psychopathic mind personified by the CIA is the scourge of mankind.

...The brutal immoral CIA policies of terrorizing (sorry, I meant “tickling”) civilians to create panic and hopefully generate specific controlled reactions is not only the cause of the terror war, but it is the reason that the military cannot achieve anything approaching victory on either of the two other fronts. In Pakistan, as in all the world’s frontline states, the secret US policy actually creates terrorist groups to administer the “tickling” on behalf of the agency to the targeted people. This, in turn, make the local fight against insurgencies unwinnable, by any acceptable standards.

In Pakistan, the “local Taliban” (under the command of “public enemy number one,” Baitullah Mehsud), which US forces are allegedly targeting, are known among the local population as tools of the US, Indian, Afghan and Israeli secret services. Mehsud’s apparent immunity from American retaliation, his detailed knowledge of Pakistani troop movements and his highly-advanced communications equipment and weaponry is cited as proof of foreign sponsorship. In other words, the CIA is creating the justification (bombings in Pakistan and cross-border attacks from there into Afghanistan by CIA proxy fighters) that is providing a sort of legitimacy for military actions. <..more..>

For Heavens sake peoples of Pakistan and the World: stop blaming India's RAW, Jihadis' Taliban and Al-Qaeeda, etc., as the prime-movers of this new atrocity on the Pakistani peoples. Misdiagnosing a systemic disease is a sure protocol for never finding its cure!

The destabilization of Pakistan has needed a confluence of patsies and mercenaries. A patsy or dupe is one who strongly believes in what he/she is doing, but is deftly controlled by puppetmasters. A mercenary is one who sells one's allegiance to the highest bidder at any moment in time. The suicide bombers and cultivated “jihadis” of the likes that Pakistan has never seen in its entire history before, are patsies. The Pakistani ruling-elite are the mercenaries. Between the two, Black-ops dollars have been well spent in Pakistan!

...That is all the reality there is to this new spate of terror in my city in Pakistan – a further excuse for more premeditated, pre-planned, devilishly orchestrated American Intervention in Pakistan until they take over the entire Tribal Belt in order to be in closer proximity to China, and break-off Baluchistan as a new independent neo-liberal 'Gulf State'. The dismemberment of Pakistan is the larger agenda; and Mr. Zardari - like his distinguished predecessor - is the new "decider" of that agenda.

Why our media-pundits/columnist/so-called-scholars refuse to publicly acknowledge this blatant fact is beyond ordinary comprehension, when surely, all of them in the privacy of their homes, will concur with that diagnosis.

Mr. Jan has been warning and educating the public for some time regarding the dangers to Pakistan's future:

In 2006 he wrote, "Musharraf won't depart without putting a final nail in Pakistan's coffin" and was proved right 2 years later. There were some other important points he made therein, of which we would all do well to sit up and take notice:
Response of some Pakistanis to the excerpts from The Musharraf Factor shows that Pakistani nation is still not reading the writing on the wall. It will, however, soon face the music it deserves for losing a golden opportunity of self-rule in an independent, sovereign state. People get the kind of leadership they deserve. At the same time, people with good intentions get equally punished through the effects of unthinking compliance when they refuse to act or fail to make a difference. Iraq and Afghanistan are two clear examples before us.

Iraqis failed to muster enough courage to stand against a weaker Baathist and secularist regime, to establish an exemplary society and a model of governance. They are now paying a far greater price then they would have, had they stood up to Saddam Husain’s externally supported tyranny.

Similarly, Afghans lost their opportunity. Instead of collectively working for the common good of their people after having an unprecedented situation of peace, law and order in the country under the Taliban, many Afghans joined campaigns that ended with yet another foreign occupation of their country—this time with the full approval of the United Nations. The result is before our eyes. Afghans, who were delivered from one occupation at a great cost, are now reeling under another indefinite and far worse occupation.

 

...The galvanizing force that brought Pakistan into being was Islam; not culture, nor ethnicity, not even language or geography....

The loss of faith in Islam has led to the loss one half of Pakistan in 1971, and continues to weaken the rest of the nation with every passing day. There is no other justification at all for separating this piece of land in South Asia, calling it Pakistan, or keeping people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds together for a long time. If a secular state was the objective, a single independent state of India made more sense than two separate entities, which drained their resources on arms building and bloody wars.

...The whole idea of the secularization of Pakistan to make it functional is based on the assumption that Pakistan, and other Muslim countries, can survive without being Islamic or democratic in the true sense and that they can endure a compromise on the principles on which Muslims must put the foundation of their collective life. At the same time, a serious attempt to live by Islam could not occur without risking the labels of extremism and terrorism.

Despite Turkey’s 80-years experiment with secularization, it has yet to succeed. Countries like Turkey and Egypt, for example, have long histories as nations to survive. Whereas, Pakistan didn’t exist as a nation before 1947, nor any other known factor except Islam is there to make it a nation. As such Musharraf’s regime took to de-legitimizing Pakistan’s entire foundation....

...Pakistan was to be an extraordinary state—a homeland for Indian Muslims and an ideological and political leader of the Muslim world. Providing a homeland to protect Muslims from the bigotry and intolerance of India’s Hindu population was important, but the real motive behind Pakistan movement was to demonstrate to the world a model of an Islamic State based on the principles of freedom, fraternity and equality of Islam. The Pakistan movement also looked to the wider Muslim world, and its leaders were concerned about the fate of other Muslim communities living under duress, stretching from Palestine to the Philippines.[7]

This is exactly what is now considered as “political Islam” of the “Islamists.” This is what the 9/11 Commission has referred to as the “Islamic ideology” and declared a war on it. S is for Shari'ah

When it comes to Shari'ah, what images are conjured up by the corporate media and by the slightly less mainstream rabid Islamophobes for the general public's education about Islam? Let's see...

Here's a popular one on some websites of a woman about to be stoned to death:

       

It just doesn't happen to be real; it was taken from a movie. But I guess they feel it is true to the general idea they are trying to communicate.

Shari'ah law only makes the news here in the US if a severe punishment such as stoning, beheading, hanging, whipping or amputation is carried out. Especially if there is some question as to actual guilt.

We are rightly repelled by such images. Punishment for real crime is not supposed to be attractive or even provoke a ho-hum reaction. It should be a deterent. And there are very real problems--in all justice systems everywhere--with systemic corruption, with wrongful convictions, with cruelty.

But those connected with Shari'ah just happen to get the most attention where anti-Islamic sentiment is being encouraged, to the extent that non-Muslims may be left with the impression that Shari'ah is all about terrorized citizens tip-toeing through a blood-soaked land strewn with corpses and body parts, afraid of their own shadows.

Nothing could be further from the truth were true Shari'ah to be implemented by a truly Islamic government, God willing.

T is for Taliban

I have had alot of embarassments in my life. One of them is that the first time I can remember hearing of the Taliban was while watching Southpark (Towelie Ban). I didn't have a clue what they were talking about.
                                                  
Later, after I had become a Muslimah and was trying to clear up some misconceptions about Islam on a discussion forum, I finally knew what most people knew about the Taliban. But when challenged to express what I thought about them as Muslims and their reported violent imposition of Shari'ah law in Afghanistan, I couldn't. I knew enough to realize that I still didn't have a clue because, it seemed clear, no one else who was writing about them did either. Since then, I have been trying to find out what it was I knew I didn't know. ~SuZ

Taleban 'burn Pakistan schools'

Suspected pro-Taleban militants have burnt down three more girls' high schools in the Swat valley of north-west Pakistan, officials say.

Ten schools have been destroyed in the district in the last four days.

Nearly 70 state-run schools have been burnt down in the area in recent months, affecting over 17,000 students.

There has been no word from militant groups in relation to the latest arson attacks, but local militants group have admitted to such attacks in the past.

Correspondents say militant groups trying to enforce strict Islamic law want the schools to be shut down.

I thought this a bit strange really.  So did this reader who commented on the news blog item

This is an odd story. When the Taliban were in power they all but eradicated opium production. Like alcohol, illegal drug use is forbidden in Islam. People were afraid of the Taliban.

When we invaded we allied ourselves with heroin traffickers as a matter of expediency. Most are still powerful warlords today - Dostum being the most notorious, but also many of the people associated with the Karzai government.

I have also been to Afghanistan, in 2003, and what I learned was that practically all of the opium poppies were grown in areas with artificial irrigation. Afghanistan is not a good country for agrigulture of any kind. It was no secret where the poppies were grown - just go to the irrigation projects. A friend told me of a famous photo of some place that the Soviets were touting as a great agricultural project in the 80s. A recent photo shows the same project, but its all poppies.

So I am a little skeptical of all this. I don't think there will be any serious drug eradication campaign in Afghanistan in the near future because the priority is on stabilizing the country. And what you call Taliban - you are referring to an ethnic Pashtun insurgency that's not necessarily trying to impose the Shariat. You will also find the the trafficking routes head north into the 'stans. It would be nice if the bad guys were the drug traffickers and we were on the opposite side, but unfortunately its not that simple.

As far their education goes, most of them were educated in Pakistani and Afghan religious institutions. However, there were quite a few who were well educated. They had studied in Europe and America and some had even taught in the US universities.

They were trying hard to implement their understanding of Shari'ah in Afghanistan even though their ranks were infilterated by the CIA sponsored Muftis from Paksitan, such as Mufti Abdur Rahim to misguide them, so that their acts become a fodder for the anti-islam propaganda. The US demonized the Taliban and drove them out of power to set up an immensely unsuccessful puppet-regime. Religious motivation and corporate greed behind all this adventure are described in detail in the above mentioned book.

Now it is said the Taliban are making a comeback. (See: 
Watch this to see the bottomline of the lies of Western Media). In fact, they are not the same Taliban as before. These are ordinary Afghans who drink and gamble and listen to music. In the above report, it said they are paid well (compared to the Afghan military), funding coming from Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia (and, other sources claim, opium).

Here is another article talking about the same "new Taliban"-- the "modernized" Taliban -- and how they differ from the old Taliban in being very well organized, technologically savvy, sporting high-tech equipment, running quickly updated propaganda websites and having "broader goals" than just Shari'ah and security for Afghanistan. Or do they have these goals beyond the hatred of occupation and a puppet regime?

Unlike Iraq where Mossad and CIA are active, Afghanistan is now a hub of Mossad, CIA and RAW. Moreover, the US enemies (Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan) cannot be ruled out. The most influential of them - Mossad and the CIA - are providing support to the resistance in a disguised manner with multiple objectives in mind. The first and foremost objective is to keep the occupation and war of terrorism alive. This helps keep the myth of al-Qaeda and the Taliban alive. And this in turn keeps the mother of all myths alive, which is: "Islam is a menace" - the New York Times edge to edge banner headline (April 21, 1996): "Red menace is gone but here is Islam."

So, financial support reaches the forces of resistance - some with good intentions and some from the sources with malicious intentions. These so-presented well-organized, well-educated, well-supplied, well-paying recruiters and organizers do not seem overly concerned with Shari'ah (although they do appoint officials to handle crimes and disputes and create councils to oversee various things in the areas where they are).

It would be naive to assume that the ranks of resistance have not been infiltrated by those who know that they are serving their handlers. As evidence suggest, the real organizers, recruiters and coordinators of the New Taliban are not getting killed in Ameri-NATO strikes. It is only the patsies and civilians and those naive souls who are sent on various suicidal mission.

Of course, some of the original Taliban are still around striving for their original goals, and may be not fully understanding the complex web of deceptions still being weaved by the neo-cons and zionists in the US. The name of the original Taliban is more useful without them.

The world war is on

Unfortunately, we are blind to the reality that the US is not even independent in making decisions to go to war. It might sound strange, but the only unjust cause and result of the post-September 11 war is Greater Israel.

....R. James Woolsey, a former CIA director during the Clinton administration, says the first world war of the 21st century is not a war against terrorism per se. After all, Spain's ETA and Ireland's IRA terrorists are not enemies of America. So the world war now under way, Mr. Woolsey argues, is being waged on three different but related fronts – Iran, Iranian backed Hizbollah, Ba’ath parties of Syria and Iraq, and Egypt’s Islamic Jihad. He says the fourth world war has been almost entirely financed by Saudi Arabian wealth.

Who says it's not a war on Islam?

Few things today are more shallow than the reasons most people have for supporting Bush and Blair war on "terrorism" and accepting their claims that it is not a war on Islam. To understand if it is a war on Islam, we need to honestly and impartially scan the horizon since 1990.

Apart from the massive air strikes, commando raids and a prolonged "dirty war" against Islamic movements, the police repression, deportation, torture, censorship and death squads that we are certainly going to face are certainly not planned after the September 11 attacks. The US "war on terror" is no more than translation to the physical level, of the systematic approach that started with 

(1) introduction of the rancid notion of "Islamic fundamentalism," 
(2) classification of Islam; 
(3) equating "fundamentalism" with extremism and then terrorism; 
(4) removal of governments, like Mr. Erbakan in Turkey, for having affiliations with Islam 
(5) support of governments' cracking down on "Islamic extremists" such as Egyptian and Algerian regimes;
(6) development of agendas for government's like Musharraf; 
(7) initially supporting the Taliban and then demonizing them to show the world the failure of Islam. 

The coming physical horror is simply execution of the judgments passed by the western intellectuals upon Islam in the past decade or so.

I will also admit at the outset that I employ the definition of “Terrorism” provided by St. Augustine when he described the supposed interlocution of a pirate by the world conquering emperor Alexander:

When the King asked him what he meant by infesting the sea, the pirate defiantly replied: 'the same as you do when you infest the whole world; but because I do it with a little ship I am called a robber, and because you do it with a great fleet, you are an emperor.' (The City of God against the Pagans, Page 148).

Being a computer scientist at heart and appreciating the importance of identifying and pursuing the “higher order bits” in any problem solving, instead of incompletely understanding the problem and often getting bogged down in the pursuit of distracting issues which turn out not to determine the course of events after all unless and until the “higher order bits” are settled first, I dwell on the more significant of the two crimes in this book: the criminality of the emperor. That is the raison d'être of the book.
