Interclub of Arenales

Rincon restaurant will not now be opening in the evening. This means that we need a new venue for the club. We will now be meeting at the restaurant Alonai at the Santara Resort (previously Life Resort) in Gran Alacant.

The room is excellent and the menu slightly different to the Rincon comprising bread with alli oli and tomato puree, followed by a first course and main course each with four choices, a choice of three sweets and includes a bottle of wine for two people. Coffee not included.

There is an underground car park which we have agreed will be available free of charge for those attending. Unfortunately, we will have to charge €12.50 per head (€14.50 for non members) which is a €1.50 increase but we have not had an increase in our entrance fee for well over 10 years so we hope that this will be acceptable to members.

To get to the venue go up the hill from the island at the Gran Alacant commercial centre to the next island, turn right into Avda. Escandinavia then first right at the BBVA bank. Follow the road round and the restaurant is on the left of the MAX COOP/UNIDE supermarket. The entrance to the car park is on the right of the supermarket.

Our programme remains unchanged to that published before we broke for the Summer recess  (see Programme page)and we look forward to seeing you at the new venue.

Interclub was formed in 1983 and comprises mainly British people who either live in Spain or visit the area for holidays. It aims to provide a meeting point for ex-pats, and does this by organizing social events where you can both enjoy the function and meet and exchange views with others like you.

The full registered name of the club is the International Club of Arenales but this is rarely used nowadays, particularly with the club now being based in Gran Alacant.

The club meets on Thursday evenings and stages a Dinner Dance once a month (usually on the 2nd Thursday in the month) and a Quiz once a month (usually on the 4th Thursday in the month) which comprises various different types of quizzes and, sometimes, other games. For details see Programme page. The club closes for 2/3 weeks for Christmas and Easter and from end June to mid September for the summer.

Annual membership fee is 6€ pa.

Event fee is 11€ each for member and 13€ each for non members.

The club has associated sections which hold weekly Whist Drives on Wednesday evenings and weekly Art classes from 11am until 1pm on Tuesday. We also stage an annual Car Rally, Petanca competition and Christmas Party.

The club actively supports the charity Cotalengo in Alicante. Cotalengo is an organization run by nuns which looks after poor people who are physically and/or mentally disabled. They receive no governmental support and rely on companies, organizations and individuals for their income. Club members contribute to a weekly collection to which the club adds a donation. Cotalengo is visited twice a year when the club makes donations of cash, clothes, toys books or anything else that can be turned into cash.

The current committee comprises :- Bob Newby – President; John Denington – Vice President; Peter Atkins – Treasurer; Bryan Grove – Secretary; Committee Members – Chris Dennington; Barry Thompson; Jill Newby; Alice Atkins; Angela Grove and Iain Sheridan.
