This tourney was a local one, held at Tombstone Paintball. Our team
took 5th place. I feel that we played well. We could have used more
practice, but I am very happy with how we did. We really learned a lot,
and the three of us that actually played really improved our games.
Phil and Aaron were unable to make the tourney, so we had two guys from
the rookie team of Organized Crime play in thier place. As a team
captain, I really learned a lot. Here's some stuff I learned; hopefully
it will help somebody:
-Always double check your scorecard before you sign it. I made the
mistake of not doing so one time. The 10 points we lost wouldn't have
gotten us anywere, but still, check the scorecard.
-Buy paint as early as possible. The tourney had two kinds: midevil
and point blank. They sold out of midevil right before we got our
paint, and that pointblank stuff was terrible. Bore size varied from
.689 to .695, and through my gun it shot like there was paint in the
barrel (OK, so it wasn't as bad as a wet barrel, but nearly every shot
had a noticeable curve or twist to it. In other words, it didn't shoot
straight at all). I honestly think we could have done better if we had
the midevil paint (No, I'm not blaming our performance on the paint,
but when you can hardly hit anything it does make a difference).
-Don't give up. The day before the tourney we were 2 guys down. We
did whatever we could to find our two subs (talk about bad luck... we
had two players unable to play, and the two subs we had lined up to
play in their spot couldn't play either. A special thanks to George at
I&I Sports for hooking us up with David and Ryan).
Random thoughts about the tourney:
-Boy did the second place prizes suck. They got scooters (you know, like you stand on them and push yourself along...)
-The ref we had needed a hug or something. He let our
first game time out and didn't realize it. When we asked him to
check the timer, he yelled at us. He had a pretty bad attitude the
whole day. Oh well.
-I think we did pretty well for a rookie team playing with a few
novice teams, with 2 guys we had never played with before, and with
awful paint. It was definately a good experience.
