Links For Survivors Of Suicide (for comfort, to memorialize your loved one, for support from other survivors and to further educate yourself)

1) Suicide and Mental Health Association International: Excellent site and very comprehensive. Allows you to memorialize your loved one in the most beautiful ways (The Most Beautiful Virtual Quilt, Candlelighting, etc.). Excellent recommended reading list and many memorial sites. Tons of poetry and prose.

         http://www.suicideandmentalhealthassociationinternational.org

2) Lifekeepers: Home of Sandy Martin and the Lifekeeper Quilt, the National Quilt for suicide victims. What a wonderful way to make a much needed statement and memorialize our loved ones at the same time. Be sure and check this one out and don't forget to take the Lifekeeper Promise!

          http://www.lifekeeper.org/home.html

3)Sibling Survivors: Great site by Michelle Linn-Gust, a survivor of her sister's suicide and author of the wonderful book "Do They Have Bad Days In Heaven? Surviving the Suicide Loss of a Sibling." If You've lost a sibling to suicide, this is a website and a book you need to look into.

4)The Sibling Connection: Nice site about the connection between siblings and the grief the "forgotten mourners" suffer when we lose ours.

          http://www.counselingstlouis.net/

5)1000 Deaths/SOLOS: Wonderful site with tons of comfort for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. They have an email support group and discussion board and ways to memorialize your loved one. SOLOS also has a wonderful shirt you can buy for $15.00. Be sure and check this site out.

6) Adult Sibling Grief: Another site dealing with the grief of losing a sibling, this one geared exclusively to losing a sibling in adulthood.

          http://adultsiblinggrief.com/

7)Survivors of Suicide Online Support Groups: Email Support groups. If you've never tried an online support group, you need to. You don't have to leave home so it's convenient. Sometimes it's just easier to talk to strangers from behind a monitor. If you're having a hard night you can go back and read posts or vent to people who truly understand what you're going through...at any time. I've met some beautiful souls at the two online support groups I'm a member of. You never know, your experience may very well help someone else in need. All of the emails may be overwhelming at first, but it is worth giving it a try and figuring it all out. My advice is to jump right in and begin posting. Shy? That's OK too. Many members don't post but receive much comfort reading the poetry, thoughts and stories of our more extroverted friends.

9) Suicide Paradigm: Tony Salvatore's wonderful site. From a Father's perspective. Has a lot of different information. Informative aspects of suicide and also vocabulary and terms of words common in suicide terminology. Highly recommended for all, especially Fathers. Also, click on the "Recovering From Suicide" link...this is an excellent 23 page booklet that I would highly recommend to anyone who lost someone they love to suicide, especially new survivors.

Links to other survivor's of suicide personal/memorial websites

1) Memorial site for Alexey Ilyushin Berardi (Flight of the Golden Eagle): After a year and a half of searching through memorial websites, this is by far the most beautiful and moving site I've ever had the honor of visiting. You will not be able to navigate through this site with dry eyes. Nicola and Letizia (Alexey's parents) write about their pain of losing their youngest son with honesty, skill and beauty I have never before seen.

2) The Gift of Keith: Great site created by Carol & Dick Loehr in memory of their son, Keith, who died by suicide. This site is in two parts: one part is dedicated to Keith and his life, the other part is specifically for survivors and has information, articles on suicide and depression, poetry, stories of other survivors and great links.
