Poeta y artista plástico surrealista y también investigador literario cubano-americano (La Habana, Cuba; 1946).

Licenciado en Lengua y Literatura Hispánicas en la Universidad de La Habana (1977), empezó a cursar  artes plásticas en la escuela “San Alejandro” (1967). Fue auxiliar de investigación en el Instituto de Literatura y Lingüística de la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba (1971-1975), asesor de programas en varias radioemisoras capitalinas (1977-1978 y 1979-1988) y director de Radio Ciudad de La Habana (1977-1978).

Su interés por el Surrealismo data casi del momento mismo en que se vio obligado a abandonar sus estudios de pre-universitario (tenía una fuerte vocación por la bioquímica) tras ser llamado al Servicio Militar Obligatorio (1964). Tiempo después le escribió a su compatriota, el pintor Jorge Camacho, por entonces en París, con la secreta intención de integrarse al Surrealismo activo; pero la noticia de éste de que el grupo parisino había dejado de existir con la muerte de André Bretón (1966) fue algo que lo desconsoló en grande. A partir de entonces, decidió vivir hacia adentro, en el mayor de los silencios posibles. Así se quedaron inéditos un poemario tras otro, algunos de ellos surrealistas y otros no tanto: Lactante balbucir (1966), El lenguaje común (Poesía fonética, 1967?), Bambún personal (Poemas dadaístas, 1967?), Hic Bibitur ó Puro como un niño (1969?), Aulladero remanso (1980?), Exilio aquí (1984?) y Gong confortable (¿Poecollages?, 1988?). Muchos de estos títulos se perdieron con su partida al exilio (1989).  Es autor, asimismo, de una obra de teatro surrealista: El carnet y los estropajos (198…).  En la actualidad trabaja en los poemarios Espíritu de contradicción y Vivir su muerte.  

Como artista plástico ha participado en exposiciones colectivas en La Habana, Miami, Santiago de Chile y Portugal. Algunos de sus creaciones se encuentran en colecciones privadas de Cuba, USA, Brasil, Chile y Portugal.     
    
Vinculado al grupo literario de El Caimán Barbudo, cuyo mensuario acogió sus primeros poemas (1966), fue antologado por Raúl Rivero en Punto de partida (La Habana, 1970). Otros escritos suyos aparecieron en la revista habanera Mujeres (1987?).  Más trabajos suyos hay en la revista Derrame No. 7 (Santiago de Chile) y en Banda Hispánica.

Desde 1989 radica en Miami, Florida (U.S.A.).

Cuban-American surrealist poet and plastic artist; also a literary investigator (Havana, Cuba; 1946). 

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature in the University of Havana (1977), and began studying plastic arts in the renowned school “San Alejandro” (Havana, 1967). He worked in the Institute of Literature and Linguistic of the
Academy of Sciences of Cuba (1971-1975), and in several radio broadcasting stations of the Cuban capital city (1977-1978 and 1979-1988).

His interest in Surrealism began almost the moment he was forced to leave his studies --he had a strong vocation to biochemistry-- because of the mandatory call-up for military service (1964). At a later time, he wrote to Jorge Camacho, a compatriot painter, who was living in Paris, because he wanted to integrate himself to the active Surrealism; but Camacho’s news that the Parisian group had disappeared after the death of André Bretón (1966) was something that deeply saddened him. From then, he decided to live inwards, in the most absolute and painful silence. For this cause he kept his poetry books unedited, some of them surrealist but a few not as much: Suckling Baby to Stammer (1966), The Common Language (Phonetic poetry, 1967), Personal Bambún  (Dada poems, 1967), Hic Bibitur Or Pure Like a Boy (1969), Exile Here (1984), and Comfortable Gong (Poecollages, 1988): some of these titles were lost when he was exiled to the United States (1989). He is also the author of the surrealistic play: The ID Card and The Scrubber  (198...). He is now preparing the poetry collections Spirit of Contradiction; and Living His Death.   

He has participated in collective shows in Havana, Miami, Santiago de Chile, and Portugal. Several of his plastic works are in private collections in Cuba, USA, Brazil, Chile, and Portugal.

His first poems appeared in The Bearded Cayman (1966). Later, Raúl Rivero included him in the anthology Beginning Point [Punto de Partida] (Cuba, 1970). Other texts of his were published in the magazine Women [Mujeres] (1987). More of his texts can be found at Banda Hispánica [Poems] and in Derrame No.7 (Chile, 2007).

He lives in Miami, Florida; since 1989.
