Hating America

By: Mike Edgerton

According to a new poll, 40 percent of Canadian teenagers think America is an evil country.  Among French-Canadian teens, the number jumps to 64 percent.  Those numbers can be laid right on the doorstep of the Canadian media and government

As you may know, the FOX News Channel is not allowed in Canada, but CNN is.  Fair and balanced? You decide.

The USA takes a relentless pounding from many Canadian news organizations and from the liberal government. So, what can we expect from the kids? They're not getting a full picture.  And neither is most of the world.

Increasingly, the bully America is being portrayed as the devil.  And the far left in this country is gleefully piling on.  Guys like Michael Moore [are] running around the world telling everybody what a bad place America is. Moore and his enablers should be very proud of themselves

For the benefit of the Canadian kids, let's take a look at the record:

•The foreign and defense policies of Ronald Reagan resulted in the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the freeing of approximately 122 million people in Eastern Europe.

• The state of Israel would cease to exist if not for American protection, and about 5.5 million Jews would be in grave danger.

• Nearly 23 million Taiwanese would be denied freedom if not for American protection.  More than 48 million South Koreans would be living under a dictatorship if not for American protection.  USA action led to the removal of the Serbian dictator Milosevic, who was responsible for the murders of hundreds of thousands of people in the Balkans.

• The USA and Britain removed the Iraqi dictator Hussein, who was responsible for the murders of hundreds of thousands of people in the Middle East.  And we have also removed the terrorist Taliban government in Afghanistan.

• America is sending $15 billion to Africa to help victims of AIDS.  We were unable to find out how much France contributes, if anything.  To be fair, Canada sends $270 million, which is substantial.

• American action in Central America, Grenada , and Haiti  has kept millions of people out of totalitarian regimes.  Of course, all of this has cost every American taxpayer big.  And thousands of American servicepeople have lost their lives protecting people overseas.

It is insulting and dishonest for Americans and Canadians and Europeans to condemn this country because they don't like certain policies.  Dissent is good.  Slander is unacceptable.

The truth is that the USA has freed more human beings in 230 years than the rest of the world combined. France has freed almost no one. Ditto Canada.

So, pardon me as I object to the Michael Moores of the world.Pardon me as I object to the anti-American foreign press and bums like Chirac in France and Chretien in Canada.

America has a provable history of freeing oppressed people all over the world in fighting evil dictators.  Canada should be ashamed that so many of its young people are flat out ignorant.  And Americans should wise up and realize we are living in a changing world.  Old friends are not necessarily true friends.

Lollapalooza 2004, Cancelled.

by: Justin Gregory

There is a reason why this article is in the Editorial section. As many know, Lollapalooza 2004 was cancelled due to reportedly, "low ticket sales". But, one has look in deeper to why this year wasn't successful. Of course you have to look at the line-up. Here is a brief list of the headliners and some supporting acts... On Day 1: Morrisey, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Modest Mouse, Von Bondies, and The Walkmen, among others. On Day 2: The Flaming Lips, Pixies, Basement Jaxx, Wilco, and the Polyphonic Spree, including other bands.

As anyone can see this line-up is dominated by indie legends and indie up starts. What this means, is the organizers were banking on the indie fans to come out of their dorms and dungeons to watch the show. Obviously not enough did. But, on indie fans alone this show would not strive, so of course they would suppose with the recent indie-mainstream explosion, the show would really sell.

So what does this mean? It means that the whole indie scene isn't ready or never will blow onto the mainstream. How long will it take, who knows? Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, and few other groups have received pop recognition yet, it really isn't enough to think that a country-wide tour, as such, is going to sell out. Maybe in five years, tours like this will have no problem selling out. But, concert planners beware, indie doesn't always sell.

Movie Maker Michael Moore is entitled to his opinion.

by: Mike Edgerton

I even respect his audacity. I mean, come on? Who else has the guts to make up such garbage about any sitting president (unless you believe that former President Bill Clinton is innocent of sexual harassment — in which case Paula Jones, Gennifer Flowers , Monica Lewinsky and Juanita Broaddrick are all just as audacious).

I'm not going to sit here and point out the inaccuracies in Moore's film. You can get that on any number of web sites or news stories.

Look, "Fahrenheit 911" is an overwhelming success, considering the historical market for documentaries. It's the highest grossing doc this side of Moore's last, "Bowling for Columbine."

What annoys me about Moore's success is the majority of people who believe the anti-Bush hype without having their own opinion. The people who just nod in agreement with the loudest person in the room.

I've heard so many comments about the movie from people who didn't see it, or have no intention of seeing it. "It's amazing. It's hysterical. He's brilliant," etc. Well, did you see the movie? "No, but I heard from my friend, and he/she knows everything about politics." Politics? Isn't Moore a satirist?

These are the same people who say President Bush is a horrible president, but didn't bother to vote in the last election, pawning off their rights because "somebody else will vote for my guy."

Or when confronted with the fact that Moore plays with timelines or simply makes stuff up, these folks simply cannot comprehend. They are blinded by some vast, liberal conspiracy against our country .Ask these same far-liberal minded people to contribute 10 percent of their after-tax income to the homeless or to welfare, and all of a sudden they're no longer interested. They have their own problems to deal with.

Postscript: Much was made in the media about how "Fahrenheit 451" author Ray Bradbury was upset with Moore's "borrowing" of his famous book title for his latest movie. If you get anything out of this article it should be that MICHAEL MOORE LIES CONSTANTLY. I know president Bush isnt the best president ever but he isnt the worst...in fact he isnt that bad. I dont know about you but i would rather have Bush in office than that rat bastard Kerry.
