In and Around 1066 Country

     The busy market town of Battle lies approximately seven miles to the north of Hastings and is situated alongside those battlefields on which King Harold was defeated by William the Conqueror at the historic Battle of Hastings in 1066.At the the entrance to these famous fields now stands the beautiful Battle Abbey.

     This small but busy town has much to offer and is well worth visiting.Visit the famous Buckleys 'Yesterday’s World' where you can look into the past, experience the sights, the sounds and smells of a bygone age that will without doubt take you back to when life ran at a much slower pace.The historic church of St. Mary the Virgin with its Norman font, rare wall paintings of the 14th century and the gilded tomb of Sir Anthony Brown to whom Henry the VIII granted Battle Abbey.

     See the Friars House in the High Street, still much the same as it was back at the time of the British Civil War. Yes with its friendly atmosphere and many places of interest the town of Battle is a must when visiting Sussex.
