IN MEMORY OF MARK EHNLE

Sadly, the club reports the passing of Mark Ehnle, beloved son of Stella and Frank Ehnle, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Mark not only loved to shoot Skeet, he was just as enthusiastic about working the scoreboard at our registered Skeet shoots.  Those who knew him will remember his devotion to the game.

IN MEMORY OF TONI EHLE

The Club and many others will miss Toni Lynn Ehle who passed away October 14, 2009 at the age of 66 of a heart attack.

Toni ran our Registered Trap Shoots and contributed lots of her time to our Club, in fact, she was nominated "Member of the Month" a while back Click Here to View Article.

We offer our condolences to Jim Ehle, other Family Members and Friends.

A few months ago we received an e-mail from Peter Rainey who lives in England.  Peter & his wife were coming to Florida  on vacation & he was looking for a gunclub to shoot American Trap which is similar to "Down the Line" shooting in England.
Peter had discovered our club on the internet & had visited our website.  After a couple of e-mails & an exchange of phone numbers everything was set up for a visit to our club on Wednesday Sept. 30th.
Peter shot four rounds of trap & according to Earl is a very good shooter.  Hope you had a great time Peter!!!!   We look forward to your visit next Wednesday.

Thanks to Art Scheck for the photo.

 RESULTS OF THE FABULOUS 50'S SKEET SHOOT JULY 18 & 19 2009

The weather was hot and humid which was why we had 50 target events for all four guns and doubles.  This was appreciated by all shooters especially the referees.

Shooting ceased between 11:30 and 1:00 for lunch.  By 3:30 all shooting was completed including the shootoffs.

Later, everyone got cooled off and returned to the Clubhouse for dinner and cocktails.

Judging by the comments from the attendees, the July shoot will be henceforth and forevermore 50 target events.

40 shooters attended.  It rained on and off all weekend...some of us got wet and some didn't.

Winner of the Fred Hasley Memorial Trophy via shootoff was Bob Reynolds.  This is the second time Bob won the trophy and it took one and a half rounds of shooting doubles with 410 to win it!

 410 Champ Dan Walker 95

20 guage Champ Brian Bierwagen 100
 12 guage ChampTom Lause  100
Doubles Champ Chuck Rossetter  49

Just to prove once again that the 410 is the great equalizer, one of our esteemed referees (who shall remain anonymous)  was heard to say that the 410 was the lowest score he had ever shot.  FUN- AIN'T IT!!

Our next shoot is the "Fabulous Fifties Open" on July 18-19...SEE YOU THERE!

 GOOD SHOOTING!

On May 28, 2009 a new young shooter, Jordon Hamlin,  hit his first 25 straight at Trap!   Needless to say, we blew his very nice hat to pieces.  Congrats!

FLORIDA STATE SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 (April 16-19)

Click Here to see Complete Scores (Fl. Skeet Assoc.)

This State Shoot was a rousing success!  Enough thanks cannot be given to all the folks who made the Club look its best and the Shoot run so smoothly.
Compliments abounded from many of the participants on what a great event it was.

The tailgate party on Thursday evening was magnificant. The consenses of many people were that "not since River Ranch has there been a party like this!"
To all the ladies who put on this tailgate party a heartfelt thank you once again.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday our culinary department took over. Our chefs and kitchen crew were superb.  125 pieces of chicken, 32 pork tenderloins, 12 pounds of pasta, 15 pounds of meat sauce, three gallons of clam sauce and a host of homemade desserts were on the menu.  All of the food was homemade a freshly prepared  which made it the very best compared with other catered events.

The weather was absolutely perfect with four days of sunshine and low humidity.  "The targets were great" were comments made by many shooters including a World Champion who travels all over the country.  "One of the best State Shoots I have attended," was a compliment made by another participant.

My squad shot all the events over four days on all five fields and we had only one broken target...Thanks to Jim Hunter for a job well done!

Winners of the Randall Knives in the 410 Event were Tom Lause, Barbara Bozard, Joe Solsona and Bob Sarafino.
A new format was used for the Randall Knive Event and it was appreciated by many because all shooters were entered in the event.  No pressure was placed on any of the participants and no one was excluded from winning the knives as had been the case prior to this contest.

RECENT DONATIONS TO THE CLUB

A third Scorer's Chair was purchased for the Club by donations from Toni Ehle, Martin Mattox, Eli Joiner, Philip Beeson and Jim Graham  (if I missed someone let me know) .

A PA Sound System was also donated.   Jim Graham and Philip Beeson purchased the Amplifyer and Jim gave us a mic.  Jim also got a friend to donate the horns and the drivers were purchased whosale by the Club.  Lum and Bill said they would install the system and it was up and running for the State Shoot.

Loye Barnhill succeeded in getting our second Scorer's Chair donated to our Club!
(Thanks to everyone)

CHET KNAKIEWICZ MEMORIAL SKEET SHOOT MARCH 28-29 2009
(Photos by Jerry Imber)

73 shooters participated

High overall was Mark McCarthy, one of our shooting referees, with a 391. He also won the Chet Knakiewicz Memorial Trophy in a handicapped shootoff against Mark Ehnle.  Who says you can't referee & shoot well too?

High overall runner-up was Joe Desalvo from Pennsylvania with 383.

High overall third was Chester Kowalski from Michigan also with 383.

410 Champ Mark McCarthy  97
28 Champ Mark McCarthy  99
20 Champ Charles Tucker  99
 12 ChampMark McCarthy  98
 Doubles Champ Tom Lause  48

It's fairly obvious this weekend was the Mark McCarthy show.  Well done & well deserved Mark.

Saturday was sunny & windy and with the sand & dirt blowing in from the complex under construction beyond our tree line it was more like the Sahara Sandstorm Open, however, all the shooters covered with dirt & grit persevered & made it through the day!

Sunday started out rainy but the sun appeared in the afternoon & it turned out to be a fairly nice day.

Cheryl "The Skeet Goddess" came down from Leesburg on Saturday to help Mark Ehnle with the new computer program.  Mark learned quickly & now registration, scoring and shootoffs will be in his capable hands.

Thanks to all the sandblasted referees and to Stella, Carol, Bob, Joann & the rest of the kitchen crew for providing lunch & dinner on Saturday & lunch on Sunday. As usual there was a variety of food, all delicious, and the desserts weren't bad either.

WELCOME TO OUR FRIENDS FROM IRELAND
(article & photo by jim Graham)

In early December I was contacted by Roy Stewart from Ulster Ireland.  He was coming to Florida to visit a friend in the Orlando area and had seen our website.  Roy & his son Alistair were coming to attend the Daytona 500 & also wanted to shoot some skeet while here.

Roy is treasurer of the  Ulster Skeet Club  .

Roy & Alistair came to our club on a Thursday eve & had a great time. Both are good shooters.  Roy ran his first 25 targets using Earl Peckhams skeet gun.  Alistair also shot very well using Jim Graham's gun. They liked our club very much & remarked that our skeet game is very much like theirs except they don't shoot station 8 at all. Instead, they shoot an extra pair at station 4.

Thanks for the visit & isn't the internet GREAT!!!!!  Roy assured us they will be back next year.

        FEBRUARY 15, 2009 TRAPSHOOT SCORES

(ARTICLE AND PHOTOS BY JIM GRAHAM)

What a great shoot!!!!   We had the best turnout we've had so far this year!!! Today was cloudy & overcast the whole day but we dodged a bullet & the rain bypassed us. The wind was very bad for the handicap shoot. It blew straight in to the traps & made for some very sporting targets. Some of those targets looked like they were dodging the shot!! Thanks to everyone who attended.

Special thanks to Toni Ehle, Jim Hunter, Eli Joiner, & everyone who worked to make the shoot a success.

We would also like to welcome Walt Furbee to ATA shooting. Today was his first registered shoot. He shot a 92 in singles & 81 in handicap. Walt says "this was great fun & I think I am totally addicted." Welcome Walt, you are now hooked.
