WE ARE THE HOME OF THE FLORIDA STATE SKEET CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR
2009
(APRIL 16, 17, 18 & 19)
(by Frank Ehnle)
At the State Shoot in Palatka this past April,... 17 clubs voted on where to hold the 2009 Championships and Polk County won with a resounding 12 of 17 votes.
The club is now in great shape and we will spruce it up even more before this shoot. Anyone interested in helping with this when the time comes, please leave your name with Jim Hunter, Eli Joiner or Earl Peckham and we will contact you. We need lots of Club participation for this huge event.

LaMarche earns 7 medals at Games
Phil LaMarche of the Plattsburgh Fire Department claimed seven medals, including two golds, in shooting at the The International Police and Fire Games. Hurricane Fay reduced the three-day shooting event to one day.
LaMarche medaled in all four events -- 50 skeet, 50 skeet doubles, 50 trap and 50 trap doubles. He also earned medals for recording one of the top three scores in combined skeet and skeet doubles, and combined trap and trap doubles.
"The one medal I'm most proud of is the silver I won for my combined score of all four events," said LaMarche, who wound up with two gold, two silver and three bronze.

SKEET SHOOT RESULTS JULY 19 & 20
ARTICLE BY FRANK EHNLE- PHOTOS BY JERRY IMBER & GREG
(More Photos in our Photo Section)
Boy it was hot!!!!!! The rain cooperated. It was dry Sat. & Sun. which resulted in extreme heat.
Some of the shooters were not able to complete the four hundred and fifty targets...mainly due to the heat and the fact we are all getting a little older.
(Next year we will change the format to 50 targets per event.)
Many thanks to Rod Carroll who took over the job of resistration, cashiering and scoreboard since Mark's cancer prevents him for attending. Hopefully Rod can continue until Mark is able to return.
Tom Lause, from Alva, Fl won HOA with a 394. Tod Bowman from Ft. Meyers and Mark McCarthy from Trinity, shot of 391's for runner up and 3rd, Tod won HOA RU and Mark was third.
DBLS Champ- Tod Bowman 50
410" - Tom Lause 100
28" - Fred Walkup 100
12" - Mark McCarthy 100
20" - Sue Bogardus 100
We had a total of 44 shooters and everyone had a great time in spite of the heat.
Rod Carroll

Ever wonder what happens to the shot, wad and clay after you shoot? Greg recently took some slow motion of Jim Graham breaking the Trap Clays. You can watch them in our new Videos of Interest section and if you look close, you can actually see the shot go to the bird!
You can also find other interesting videos with more to come.
In our Photo gallery you can view photos (clips) of the same videos in a slide show showing the breaks along with some new photo albums.

FRANK & STELLA EHNLE'S SON, MARK, HAS CANCER
(July 21, 2008)
Many of you know Mark who has helped run and score many of the skeet shoots since 1979 when Frank joined the club.
Mark has been diagnosed with "gastrointesinal stromal tumor" the size of a football inside his stomach.
The doctors are trying to shrink the tumor with chemo in the form of a pill because traditional chemo does not work on this type of cancer...hopefully... they can operate.
He has lost his job because he cannot work, has no insurance and is trying to get on SSI with little success.. and it is a struggle to keep his family and home afloat.
Any encouragement, cards or donations would be greatly appreciated. His address is:
Mark Ehnle
23105 Dover Dr.
Land O' Lakes, Fl. 34639
We will try to keep everyone informed of his progress on this site.

GREG & JIM SHOOT AT SILVER DOLLAR'S JULY 4, 2008 TRAP EVENT
Greg Towle & Jim Graham shot Friday only at the Silver Dollar over the July 4th weekend.
Greg won the D Class event with a 99 and had a 3 way tie of 93 at the 20 yd line in Handicap and earned some money.
The 99 was Greg's best score ever and blamed his miss on a bad trigger (good excuse as any!)
Jim won the Senior Vet class tied with another shooter with a score of 98 which earned him a check also. He also won his yardage at handicap in a 3 way tie and a score of 92.

It was a great day of shooting with a slight breeze, but very hot! Jim Ehle came along for support and "coaching." There were several 100's...lots of great shooting and friendly competitors.

RESULTS OF THE "SPRING HAS SPRUNG" FUN SHOOT!
Art Scheck's orchestrated Fun Shoot was a fabulous time with great weather, food, competition and friendship. It was warm with a slight breeze coming in from the south....the hamburgers, brats, beans and coleslaw were spectacular and highlighted a perfect morning of Trap & Skeet.
The Lewis Class winners were:
1.♦ Jim Graham 100 $24.00
1. Roger Croghan 99 $16.00
2. Scott Smith 92 $25.00 Jim Graham
2. Jim Hunter 92 $25.00
3. John Bakach 88 $25.00
There were alot of very high scorers who won nothing...(you do not have to be the most skillful to win money)! Let's do this more!
Steve
Special congrats to Steve Didas, a new member who just started Trap Shooting and got this first "25 Straight"...and his hat "Blown to
Pieces!"
4 of the Funshoot Winners Jim, Roger, John & Scott

RESULTS OF THE FRED HASLEY MEMORIAL SKEET SHOOT MAY 17-19, 2008 (by Frank Ehnle)
This turned out to be a small shoot with only 35 participants. The weekend was beautiful and hot except for 15 minutes of rain on Saturday morning. On Sunday afternoon noon the wind blew "rather briskly" which seems to be "Standard Policy" for the 410 Event.
The wind didn't seem to bother Jack Bogardus as he shot a 96 to take 410 Championship and HOA with a 386.
Mark Ehnle won the Fred Hasley Memorial Trophy for 2008.
Stella Ehnle and Carol Keth provided lunch Saturday, Sunday and dinner of Saturday evening.
Bob Reynolds is the "Resident Skeet Chef" and manned the grill the weekend.
We thank Roy Whittaker for providing breakfast for the shoot staff Sat. & Sun.
Chuck Rossetter from Palm Bay shot his first 100 in the 12 guage and won that event!
Everyone had a great time and we are looking forward to our next shoot on July 19 & 20.

EUSTIS ATA TRAP SHOOT APRIL 20, 2008
Eli Joiner, Jim Graham and Greg Towle attended what might be the last Registered Trap shoot in Eustis, Florida. We love shooting there, especially in the summertime when most of the Snowbirds go North leaving us with no ATA Shoots for a few months...the folks there are friendly, the setting is unique and challenging for us and they support us as well.
Here is the official 16 Yard Scorecard.
Jim Coniff was dead on with the high score of 100. Eli shot a very respectible 97.
Jim Graham won the Handicap with a 95 at the 22.5 Yard line.
It was a great shooting day with the wind picking up just a little towards the end.
We welcome all shooters who usually go to Eustis to come to our Winter Haven Club now and then....it is only one hour and ten minutes from Eustis. If we get enough people interested, it is possible we could set up a registered shoot or two this summer.
Jim Graham and Eli Joiner enjoying a wonderful day at the Eustis Gun Club
