Ancient Mythology speaks of a beautiful heart shaped island called Madiaas which was divided into three, Aklan, Antique and Iloilo. Iloilo became the center of diverse races, from the finical europeans, the chinese traders, culture-rich eatas and versatile malays. This made Iloilo reflect seven continents and more than a hundred nations, it mirrored both the east and the west.
In the pages of our History, the port city of Iloilo was alive even before the arival of the Spanish Cross. The Ilonggos traded with its neighboring flags. Different cultures occupied the island, none is dominant since every foreign and local etiquettes and traditions were distibuted like how rice grains are thrown into the feilds.
The faces of the Ilonggos vary from the Chinita which dances with the oriental dragon, the Mestiza which moves with the western zephyr and the Morena which graces in the Pacific feilds. Much more, It showcases songs and dances of both ethnic and foreign. The literature of the province does not only speak of it's history it also boasts the tales from ancient Madia-as, the heart-shaped island. Here, epic tales of love, courage and mystery are unveiled while songs of praises, common duties and beliefs touch the strings of ancient instruments.
From the Bamboo huts to Stone Mansions, from chinese shrines to european churches, from a marshland to a city, from untouched villages into a thriving province.
The heart of a heart-shaped island in the heart of the Philippines.
Welcome to Iloilo, where beauty passionately moves with rhytm.
