Beginners Course in Wood Carving

 

 

Aims and objectives of the course

To enable students to embark on their own woodcarving projects, with a little helping hand from the tutor. Absolute beginners welcome. Tuition will be given in Low Relief, and simple Carving in the Round
Apart from the above, the course includes learning how to recognise various timbers, its selection and carving properties. We shall look at the different types of tools used for working wood, and for clamping and holding it.

 

 

Requirements for the course

The most important requirements for the course are enthusiasm and patience. Students can bring their own wood and tools to carve. Wood for the first two projects is supplied for free while wood for other project can be supplied at cost. Students may rent the tools at an additional cost of LM 10. For those students who want to buy the tools we have special offers for our students.

 

 

 

Course Outline

The first two projects are a tulip in relief and a fish carved in the round. These will help the students develop their skills so that having completed the set projects, they can go on and work on their own pieces.
