The International Kilt Appreciation Society was formed in 1991 to promote the wearing of the kilt, interest amongst guys who like to see others wearing the kilt and friendship amongst such members. It is certainly NOT a condition of membership that you therefore own a kilt.
This the society mainly endeavours to try to achieve through publishing a monthly Newsletter. In it we try to include:
a) Kilt articles; b) Kilt stories; c) Dates and venues of meetings; d) Members' personal reports; e) Competitions; f) Ads; g) Cost price goods; and h) Kilted photographs.
Anything published in the Newsletter is done entirely free of charge unlike most others who charge for everything. We do NOT carry any advertisements from the media, etc., again unlike many others, so do not waste any space that way. A Newsletter is usually twelve pages in length.
Membership of the society entitles you to receive twelve copies of the Newsletter per year, to contribute to the Newsletter in any manner and attend meetings. As we are a national society, meetings are normally held around the country so there will hopefully be one within travelling distance of you.
To give you a general idea, meetings have been held in Inverness, London, Retford, Edinburgh, Blackpool, Crawley, Lincoln, Castleford, Glasgow, Crieff, Littlehampton and Aberdeen, so the spread of venues has been quite considerable.
The cost of membership is currently either £16, $24 US dollars or 20 euros per annum which entitles you to twelve free Newsletters sent as they are published (overseas members receive their Newsletters bi-monthly owing to postal costs).
All cheques should be made payable to 'IKAS' owing to the Society's banking arrangements. The society is only able to accept payment by cheque in UK sterling. Payment by either US dollars or euros MUST be in note form only, and MUST be sent by ordinary post. Thank you.
Payment should be sent to:
Mr M Tacy, 20 Ordsall Park Road, RETFORD, Nottinghamshire, DN22 7PA
Most guys say this is little to pay for such a specialised group, but this is purely being run as a society and NOT a business. As long as it just pays its way and covers costs then that is all what I am concerned about.
Having read the I do now hope you will consider joining this gay society.
