          Mission Statement

 

The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc. (ICAN) is a nonprofit organization founded by Esther Booth Zorn in 1982.  ICAN's mission is to improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery and promoting Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC).

ICAN of the Inland Empire is an official Chapter of International Cesearan Awareness Network, Inc.  It was formed in November 2003.  The chapter has meetings and also does public outreach. Its forming board members are experienced VBAC mothers, professionals and educators.

ICAN of the Inland Empire will keep 30% of the subscription fee and is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization. Your contributions are tax deductible. You will receive The Clarion and e-news. Professional subscribers receive their listing on this website and the main website. If you would like to subscribe, please make check payable to ICAN of the Inland Empire and mail to 2098 Acacia Ave. Apt. 173, Hemet, CA 92545. All proceeds are spent on local and national event fees, brochures and supplies. We also provide stipends for conferences. If you cannot subscribe at this time, please know we appreciate all volunteer activities. Thank you!

The new UNICEF report, State of the World's Children 2009: Maternal and Newborn Health, cites a UN recommendation for a cesarean rate
range of 5% to 15% (see Figure 4.1 on numbered page 70 at 
http://www.unicef.org/sowc/ )
