The Indian Elders Food Project is to be considered a huge success. Last week we were able to provide food baskets for about 110 Indian Elders in the Ponca City, Red Rock and surrounding areas just before the holiday season. IEFP 2005 was an all volunteer community-based grass roots organization made up of individuals and non-profits as well as from other organizations in the community. The goal of IEFP 2005 was to honor our tribal elders and to bring together the Native American Indian and non Indian for a common cause and fellowship. We feel that both endeavors were met quite successfully.
The co-sponsors for IEFP 2005 were Ponca City Foursquare Church, the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association and the Northern Oklahoma Youth Shelter. This was not a tribal event and/or political campaign nor was it sponsored by any one group, although Conoco/Phillips was a major contributor. We were able to purchase over $6,000.00 of food and had over eighty volunteers join in the effort. IEFP is very grateful for the efforts of so many. Our website www.freewebs.com/iefp had over 1500 hits and our guestbook was signed by people from across the nation and as far away as England and Australia. IEFP 2005 is now complete and is no longer soliciting for donations.
