INDIAN ELDERS FOOD PROJECT 2007
Hi, welcome to the Indian Elders Food Project website. This is our sixth year of this endeavor, our goal in developing this website is to provide public information and coordination of the donations and/or sponsors for the Indian Elders Food Project. This project's purpose has always been two-fold; to provide healty food for the holidays to Indian Elders in North Central Oklahoma who are 65 years of age or older and to promote a better understanding between the Indian and non-Indian communities in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
We are excited to announce that the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma in 2007 is again taking the lead in sponsoring the Indian Elders Food Project. This year we are planning on delivering to Elders in the community, the week just before Christmas. As before, we want to deliver food baskets that meet the special dietary needs of our Indian elders, we want to give them foods; low in sodium and sugar free along with fresh vegetables.
Just as important, we want the volunteers to donate their time and visit with our elders. We feel that the more we know about each other, the more we will accept and understand each other. We want to create the opportunity to offer prayer and fellowship both for the elder and the volunteer alike. We anticipate giving to and visiting with, at least one hundred Indian elders in the community starting on Friday, December 14th 2007.
We hope you will join us in our efforts to accomplish something that is worthwhile and rewarding. Through the years many elders have told me how much it means to receive this sort of gift and make new friends. On behalf of our Indian Elders I want to thank all of you both past and present who have helped make this project a success.
Sincerely,
Dwight Howe
